To be fair, I said that it'd be difficult to do it without it seeming like gratuitous fan-service.

Based on the video I just watched, it sets up pretty much perfectly for her to come out in whatever the "typical 70s BD guard uniform" was and do a rifle toss, without being gratuitous. They figured out a setup to make her both past and future in one shot, without it being fan-service-y.

Because of course they did. F'ing Devils. Of bloody course they did. They're the best.

Haha. Of course, looking to the future, she'll be wearing a jet pack and flying over the field during the toss (to more complaints of the lack of marching).

So then the content score should be lower and the achievement score should be higher?? Like the corps is outperforming their design?

    honest question.

There is no way that a corps that stands for 8 minutes should have higher content scores then corps that do 100 drill charts in that same time frame. I don't care who the corps are.

It doesn't matter which corps you are a fan of if there is no way anyone can honestly say that BD has a more visually challenging show then SCV or any of the corps in the Top 6 for that matter. I think that's where the frustration lies for many fans.

And let's not get started on the GE topic lol...

Hard to debate someone who uses alternative facts, such as BD standing for 8 minutes. That is patently false and obvious to anyone who has actually watch the show. As far as 100 drill charts...again, this is a "visual" caption, not a "marching" caption. 100 drill charts show a lot of marching skill but not a lot of variety of skills. Maybe you should lobby DCI to get rid of visual and change the caption to marching (though I expect you would be disappointed when the Blue Devils maxed out that one next year as well).

You are wrong. This is a subjective activity. Its not a binary position. If I said a John Mackey piece is better than a Frank Tichelli piece, does that automatically mean that I am insulting Tichelli? Especially when I find both pieces to be great. The difference here is that there is a competitive score to the subjective activity. Unless there are certain required elements that can be directly compared, I am only disagreeing with design aesthetic which has nothing to do with the MM.

In that case I think there are elements to BDs design that are over valued by the judging community and design elements from other corps that are under valued. When the difference in performance quality is only a matter of tiny degrees those elements matter.

By trying to say that thinking another corps should have won over another is insulting the MM, you are creating a straw man argument that automatically erases any subjective point and almost requiring those who disagree with the outcome to either accept it or be the bad guy.

I'll continue to disagree. Wen you say the ultimate champion should not have been champion, you ARE insulting them and attempting to diminish their achievement, no matter what excuse you use.

If you count the four minutes they're actually marching as perfect, then yes, those four minutes look spectacular. But the rest of the show, huh? SCV and crown should be beating them, if we're talking about "marching". Unfortunately visual adjudication is just as much about platform climbing, posing in position and a corps ability to be one with their WGI-ness then actual marching.

The caption is "visual" not "marching."

I think most comments are coming from the fact they don't move a lot in the final 3 minutes of the show. Trombones on the props, jazz section park and blow, high brass licks parked, etc. When they move, its pretty impressive and field coverage is high, but other than Bumblebee licks, they just don't play their meat on the move. I guess you could say they're probably just smarter than everyone else. Its a bit easier to clean when you are in smart positions staging wise and form wise. Other corps complaining are just working too hard, not writing to the sheets.

Same old-same old, BD outsmarts everyone..

There is a low angle video from last nights show. Watch the end of the show from this angle. There is plenty of marching going on. Don't rely on older video. They have been adding to the show every day.

Any increase in corps size would require the addition of another member bus. Currently at 150 members, there are 3 busses for the corps. Think of all the extra costs associated with that. Bus driver, gas, insurance, bus rental, etc. doesn't make economical sense to me for drum corps.

This. The increase to 150 was due to the increase in bus capacity over the years. Until they start making buses that can hold more, they won't increase the size. Time for double decker buses?

And don't come at me with that don't blame the MM crap. I never say a single negative word against the performers and to insinuate that my issues have anything to do with anything other than the judging system is insulting.

Of course not. It is the old "I didn't mean you weren't good at what you do. I meant what you do isn't worth doing." Sorry, when you complain about the judging (I.e. They didn't deserve to win) you ARE insulting the performers.
