  1. Personally I think DCI should plan on a regular season with fans in attendance. Several vaccines are ready and should be available well before the season starts, even with a late start on rehearsal schedules this shouldn't affect the final product put on the field in late June. Young people have had little issues with this virus, let's protect the vulnerable and get on with life.

  2. Time is running out on the '21 season, too much to plan for with no set of guidelines to plan with...unfortunately. With that in mind, expect roughly half of the corps able to field a competitive drum corps in '22, and at a significant downgrade in quality for most, if not all the programs. People have to make a living, even if it's not what they love or enjoy. I'm  thinking the question is...will drum corps be able to rebuild over the coming decades?

And I'm sorry to admit that I remember laughing, but it was a huge upset when Garfield Cadets beat the Vanguard in 1982.  The Bridgemen turned away from passing in front of Garfield and instead passed in front of the Vanguard, playing a chunk from one of their show tunes; "Shaft."

I marched with Bluecoats that year, we did an exhibition show there, we were in the area and had a few West Virginia players. Remember Bridgemen doing that.

Sadly, this is true.  In years past Drums Across the Tri-state used to feature 3 of the top six, 3 of the six middle corps, and three others.  If they could bring even one headliner I think more people would attend.

Yep, first live drum corps show I ever seen, back around 79 or 80 I think, old Marshall stadium in Huntington, sell out every year.

  5. Was at the show last night, Bluecoats did indeed have the biggest crowd response...by far, even over Crown. Cavies show is very good, not sure if they can catch Boston, but I wouldn't be surprised. I find it hard to believe that BD's horn book has more content than Bloo's. There just isn't anything there that would put it in contention with bloo's brass book. I'm sure that this late in the season the judges would have a grasp of book content from all the corps. But the most striking thing from last night was just how good every corps was, even Spirit and Phantom had well designed and entertaining shows and were performed really well, haven't been able to say that the last few years.

Boston - MY SHOT MY SHOT MY SHOT *mumblemumblemumble* MY SHOT MY SHOT. Enough, guys. Regardless of what you add to your show (which is otherwise pretty tremendous as-is), certain changes need to be made with voice-overs that are currently coming across as a bit juvenile in an otherwise fairly mature show. They were smart enough to make some changes in 2018 (live vocal of Amazing Grace to pre-recorded helped significantly), but in both 2017 and 2019 have missed the mark with voice-overs in some regards. 2017 was the cringey "nooooooooooooo" yell, and 2019 is the extreme over-use of My Shot, especially hearing the extended incoherent rambling of Lin Manuel Miranda's voice during the tenor feature. If you can't even make out what's being said, is it relevant? Also, the David vs. Goliath battle could use some clarity - sound effects don't make sense.

I agree 100% with this, really takes away from the otherwise good show.

me too - who is this?  I remember we were lined up just outside the gates and as the raiders came off the field I recall looking up at them and noting that the tops of our members plumes (we wore shakos in 82) were just barely tall enough to brush the raiders chins.  those guys were huge

One of the West Virginia boys, lead sop player, Paul Summers. Those shako plumes were short anyways! but yeah, I always wished the game had better teams.
