It was bound to happen, but at the very least they weren't scalded as badly as the Colts were before Minneapolis (A deficit that they've since come within a point of recovering from.) Pacific Crest are still in a prime position to move up, and got 5th across the board in brass, and 6th in music overall. Their problems seem to be opposite of the Colts, however. Going to be interesting to watch nonetheless!
Spirit so close to passing 78, they'll have a chance tomorrow before San Antonio, though! Troop is right behind them, and did really well despite where they were placed as somebody suggested earlier might affect them. Surprised by their brass score, though. I can certainly imagine them playing at the level of their book at this point and not having the hardest book, but 8th in content is pretty rough.
That Brass score for Troopers got my attention. hard to square that with the Music Analysis Score.

Pioneer 64.10
Cascades 65.15
Academy 71.30
Pacific Crest 72.30
Colts 74.55
Crossmen 75.40
Troopers 76.05
Spirit of Atlanta 77.80
Blue Knights 80.75
Cadets 85.95
Couple of things stand out here. BK vaulting over 80 and Troopers look like they are starting to really gain some momentum.

ahhh old rivalries, new year. Play nice, guys. :smile:/>
In any case, Pinwiz does an excellent job with his assessment, and I'm in agreement. We've got to beef up a few things to keep pushing forward!
I just noticed that are have no shows scheduled for Thursday and Friday. I expect they'll use that time wisely. If they do and I expect they will, Saturday at the Alamodome could be a good day for Troopers.

I like the show but feel like something is missing. I don't sense a lot of emotion in the show yet. Seems very dry at this point. I did say the same thing about Juliet two years ago at this point and was happily proven wrong.

2006 Phantom Regiment: Ave Maria by Franz Biebl and the Mahler Resurrection. The Biebl especially was just beautiful. Shaw and Rennick just arranged it so masterfully. Having the Trumpets on Baritones in the beginning of it was a brilliant idea and percussion writing was tasteful.
Great! Now I have to break out the DVD and watch it again!

I tried to calm the natives earlier this week that there will be volatility when some shows have 5 judges, others have 8, and the captions judged are weighted differently as a result. Tonite's show had 8 judges by the way. This is Spring Training for both judges, staffs and MM's alike. Minny regionals begins the real season. In the meantime , my suggestion is for everybody to relax and just enjoy the shows that each corps is putting out.
Beat me to it Brasso. I was thinking the same thing.
-
Lets see what happens when we get a full slate of judges. I don't think we've had a show yet where all captions are judged. I would note though, this grouping of Corps has seen score volatility that I haven't seen with the other groups.

Thanks for doing this Toby!!

VERY solid run by the Cavies. Much more to do but they really sold it tonight. Crowd really enjoyed it.

WOW!! What a difference a week makes. Cavies look and sound much more confident than at Akron. Good performance so far.

People starting to get back into their seats. Looks like we're about ready to go.

Double Post!! Sorry Folks! My computer seems a little slow tonight.

And now some Super Tramp. I like this play list.

And please lets not have anyone compare anymore the 93 Star with 2013 BD " Rite of Spring ". Because if you want to, I prefer 93 Star's show WAY, WAY more than this 2013 BD edition.
That said, as no surprise to most, BD was loved by the DCI judges once again tonite and pull back ahead of Crown, and by a pretty comfortable margin as well.
The judges know what they like and prefer. But what are we gonna do ? It is what it is, and so thats that.
Star 93 stretched the activity and was one of the most creative shows I ever saw. BD 2013? Not even close.

Crown got killed in Visual and Percussion. They had issues with both captions last season too. But, I really didn't see the spread between then and BD in Visual tonight. Percussion, I'm a dunderhead so I'll let those who know it comment on it. I can't.

What happened to the sound at the end? Sounds like the feed really faded out there.
-
Drums along the rockies?
That's what worries me.
-
So when is BK going to do their full show? That was disappointing to say the least.

Wow!! Mandarins. What a nice surprise tonight. Excellent Show Concept. I really liked it. If the Guard was bigger, it would sell even better than it did tonight. Still, nice job Mandarins!! :thumbs-up:

I noticed that too. I thought Swing sounded a little slow. Brass was chomping at the bit.Man, the corps wanted to take Swing up about 20 beats faster than the DM wanted to go.
Great to see them having fun!

Man I would love that. And it's called Sports Authority Field@ Mile High now.Cough...INVESCO...cough
