am I the only one who sees the fact that they do not integrate the Contra section into the drill in any way? They were even kneeling behind the pit for the entire percussion feature. They are always separated from the base form, and are only attached to the end of amoeba forms. They do this EVERY year and it drives me absolutely crazy because its cheap, and they get rewarded for having this super GE visual.

I REALLY dig the long coat on the Drum Major
-
lets see if BD actually integrates the Contras into the drill and not treat them like a high school sousaphone line
-
Cavies are nice....but there isnt a "wow" factor.
I am anxious to see BD because I think they will win this year. (even though I am rooting for Crown)
-
Cavies have been surging as of late....lets see them turn it up
-
I can't remember seeing a horn line with their hats off.
And a pet peeve of mine is big mouth's open with enormous smiles on color guard members. Is it really needed?
Alot of guard teachers will try to match the facial expressions of the guard with the mood of the show, as a way to communicate in a theatrical way. I admit its annoying, but its there.

SCV is going to finish in the 3rd to 5th range battling with cadets and cavies.
Bluecoats are in the 6th to 7th range battling with Phantom
-
SCV is very clean. And I love the source music.
But the show itself is kinda boring. Anyone else agree?
Wonder if they'll be able to keep pushing for another month ... so clean already ...
ya reminds me of mid 90's glassmen....nice sound and clean, but boring
-
Wow SCV was great....I dont think they are championship quality however.
#1 I do not think a music driven show will ever win again....unfortunately
#2 Not enough demand in their drill to win
I think they will be in the running for best drums
-
I hate to say this Madison fans.....14th is going to be the highest placement you can get this year
-
yep. Had lots of issues. I couldn't get full screen. Was it even an option?
I am getting great quality and full screen, maybe its the browser?
I am using Firefox 3.5 and Windows Media 11 plug in
right click screen when video is broadcasting and go to zoom then to full screen
-
looking at scoring trends this season it looks like madison will be in the tier between 14th and 17th somewhere around Spirit, Academy and Crossmen. Colts and Troopers will likely be in a scoring tier above that competing for a finals spot.

Scouts might have their hands full tonight at retreat. There's still alot of dirt out there and they're having some ensemble balance and timing problems (moreso than Troop or Colts). It's a VERY exciting show and I look forward to the next viewing. My biggest complaint - There was a TON of low end synth in that show. The low brass is pretty light compared to upper brass so it helped to balance things out ... but it's a cheat and at times was overpowering.
It's good to see the boys getting stronger!
I agree, with the low end synth problems. I think its a theme for alot of corps. I think the Colts are the only corps so far tonight who made good use of the synths.

ya madisons sound is top heavy, and the drill is dirty and makes absolutely no sense. I think GE scores will suffer because you really do no get the concept of the show. So I have Troopers, Colts, Scouts, Mandarins, Cascades
all in all and excellent first half
-
Colt have a great sound, but I hated the drill design.
The drill designer almost never took the corps out of 2 step intervals. I think the made the drill feel too tight, and a poor use of space.
-
Wow that was a great show by the Troopers, neat concept, nice ensemble sound, and pretty nice job on visuals.
I think a drill rewrite at the end of the show is needed, and this can be a top 12 corps.
I can decide if I love of hate the uniforms. I know they are tradition, but I cant put a finger on how I feel about them
-
Mandarins have a great horn sound, and a good drum line, They know how to work the field with only 100 or so people.
Cascades are rebuilding. But they shouldn't let the keyboards support their low end.

I spoke with someone today who was with Boston this summer and I asked what Corps the 113 new members came from this year. I was told that most of them were new to drum corps this year. That blows my mind. How can you make it into the top 12 in a tough competitive year with so many new to drum corps members? Another chapter written for the Boston Crusaders and yes they will never die! I was also told that the members are pumped up for 2009!
As a side note I was told that many X Boston members marched with the Cadets this year. They followed the old Director to the Cadets and then he left the Cadets (just what I was told).
Actually Hop likes to brag about how many "rook-outs" that march the Cadets every year. I think alot of corps have about a 30% turnover every year. And in some years the turnover for a top 12 corps can be as much as 70%. However the high turnover with Boston this year just attests to the quality of the staff and the dedication of the kids.

actually Crown was my favorite show this year. I have not had goosebumps like that since star 93.
This activity needs new blood at the top, and crown has all the right people in the right places to maybe have them contending for a championship
-
I think everybody is forgetting (and will forever forget) that if BDs drumline were just a little bit better they would be champs. But a 5th place drumline does not a 1st place corps make.
-
I am still stinging from 99, and I can say I am not a Boston Fan, but after watching the show most of my complaints about the style of the corps have gone by the wayside. I think this years show is a giant leap in the right direction design wise. But be careful not to emulate Cavies too much. :)

Im telling ya..
If Blue Devils win tonight.... Im gonna run out on the field
and use the Cadets psych couch.... and lie there... and ask
HOW... Blue Devils show is just............. there.... no
emotion... just dynamics.. guard is good..
But when you look at the show ....
AS A TOTAL PRESENTATION.....
Hands down..
PHANTOM REGIMENT !!!!!!!
also.... GO BLUE STARS !!!!
I have to agree, but I think there is another angle......if Phantom was wearing black pants and shoes instead of white......dont you think some of the "dirt" will go away just because its harder to see?
actually who was the last corps to win using white pants/shoes?
-
Blue Devils cannot improve in their visual scores anymore. Phantom can...
If Phantom moves 0.1 points in each subcaption higher than last night, since BD cannot move higher, the corps would be tied. It is then a race for the spreads in the OTHER captions...
And since Phantom has the better ordinal scores (meaning they are first in more subcaptions than BD) Phantom will win.
-
So...
I think it safe to say that Regiment 08 is already firmly established as a show for the ages, regardless of placement...
But if the pull off a win tonight, they will forever be immmortal....godlike in stature and memory...and deservedly so.
What other winning shows have that kind of stature?
For me:
76 BD
82 BD
83 Garfield
84 Garfield
86 BD
91 Star
Other shows were fabulous.....but these are the ones that top my list.
I think some of the best shows were ones that did not win.
89 Phantom
93 Star
95 Cadets
00 Cadets (they won)
08 Crown

ya and its cheap and not inventive, and it seems like the contra section is treated like a high school sousaphone section
