I have considered this. I'm just not sure if this will be worth it. It just doesn't look the same to me. I don't mean to come off as snobby, but I really wanna be in a group that's really gonna wow people in the crowd. Again, sorry if this makes me snobby, or snooty or whatever.

I've posted before proudly exclaiming my confidence in auditioning for the Bluecoats, Carolina Crown, or the Blue Devils. But after some afterthought, I'm not so sure, as this will be my first time auditioning for any drum corps, and according to 2015, these are literally the top three. Should I go for something lower? I'm 17, Will be 18 when i march, I play Bari/Euph/Contra (although I've never held a marching Euph or Contra; what instrument I'm going to audition on is a mystery as well) and trombone but that's sort of irrelevant here. Don't get me wrong, I'm a great player imo. I'm a two-time TN All-State tuba player, three-time first chair regional tuba player, consistent superior-rated euphist at State solo and ensemble, my marching fundamentals are above average, and my attitude is great. The only reasons I'm not 100% confident that I'll be contracted into one of the top 3, is that I know I won't be able to audition for more than one of them (since all of their first camps are pretty much simultaneous) and I have no corps experience. Also, I'm not in the best physical shape. I'm only 109 pounds, marching season in high school takes quite a lot out of me every year, it pummels me frankly. I can only imagine what marching a corps would do to me. I'm very sorry to those that have read previous posts from me, but I'm thinking about this realistically now. Travel, money, likelihood of a contract are all things for serious consideration. Thank you very much for reading all of this, and I'd very much love some professional (or at least educated) insight. ~ Tristan.

I'd love to do this, but I already have plans; I'll be at Tennessee's Governor's School for the Arts the entirety of June.

No, man, I didn't. haven't even heard of this.

I guess it's just the show style I'm thinking of. Spirit's shows seem jazzy to me. I know BD sort of does this too, but not nearly as much as Spirit does, imo. Oh, and Holland, I didn't mean to say I dislike jazz. I'd just rather not play it in a corps setting as much as Spirit does.

I've thought about them, but honestly I'm not thrilled with the idea of marching Spirit. I like jazz and I'm in jazz band, but I'd rather not venture into jazz in a corps setting. Also, 2017 will be my first of only 4 seasons of marching, so I'd rather not spend one of the years with Spirit. Nothing against Spirit, they're just not for me.

Thank you, all of you! I probably should have clarified; I'm not auditioning for all three of these corps! I'm going to choose one eventually, as I already checked to see when the 2016 auditions were, and they were all in the same weekend. Also, to those recommending another corps, I'm looking for another corps to audition for outside of one the three I mentioned before; probably an OC Corps, most likely Music City, as I live in Memphis.

I'm a tuba/baritone/euphonium player looking to join one of 3 corps in 2017; Crown, Coats, or BD. I know they're 3 of the highest ranked, but I'm confident in my abilities, and I have some experience. Anyways, who knows when they usually let out information about auditions???

I live in Memphis, but travel is not an issue, fortunately for me.

Thank you, everyone. It seems to me the big ideas people have tried to convey here were to get in shape (I'm pretty darn skinny, but a muscular skinny, being 5'5, weighing 129 Lbs) audition on what is most comfortable (which is kind of an issue, because I'm equally comfortable on both, with this exception; my tone is better on tuba, but my technique is better on baritone. As for auditions, I still don't get how the horn thing would work out. Don't I have to march with a horn in my vishal audition? I've watched some video auditions and they all had to march with a horn. I came across one guy who auditioned for Crown on a sousaphone, and his playing audition was good (because it was on a concert horn) but his visual was bad because the sousaphone held him back. So I'm worried about taking a sousaphone. That's probably the main concern I have with marching tuba. Thank you, all!

Hi! My name is Tristan, and I play the baritone/euphonium and the tuba. I have decided to audition for the Bluecoats or Carolina Crown for the 2017 season and it will be my rookie year. I will be 18. I'm just wondering; which instrument Will I prosper the most on? Playing wise, I am much more experienced playing the tuba; actually, this summer, I'll be in a month long summer program where I will pretty much do nothing but play the tuba. (in a concert setting) However, I have never held a contra in my life. I have marched a year on trombone in high school marching band though, and those fundamentals are better than my sousaphone fundamentals if that helps. I have access to a concert tuba, a sousaphone, and a marching baritone. If I choose baritone, the answeris obvious as to what I'll play in what audition. If I play tuba, though, what do I do? Do I take the concert tuba and do my playing audition on that and do my marching audition on one of the corps' contras? Or do I take my sousaphone?
