And with the original arrangement.
A thousand times yes. I was listening to the audio of a recording from 1989 with Gale conducting it and it was just incredible.

I know this is REEEEALLY wishful thinking, but my number one hope for the entire 2017 summer is SCV gives us a powerful Send In The Clowns as the closer this year. I'm talking like REALLY powerful.

While we're semi on the topic of staging, does anyone know the reason for taking away the stages that we're in front of the front sideline this past season? I personally loved that aspect and was disappointed when they cut that part. Moments especially like the Turning impact and the high brass features flourished due to that imo. So why take it away?

HOT OFF THE PRESS: This just released..Boston's NEW uniform!!!!
I am seriously joking...nothing better to do today...I just found this sketch on the internet
Wouldn't have a problem with this.

Registering is one thing, but it doesn't mean they will all actually "come out for auditions". I'm not sure if anyone will back me up, but my experience has been that a corps will get somewhere between 30 - 50% (closer to 30%) of those who register, to actually come out for auditions.
I would guess that Academy had more than 300 register, last year. This year (based on the almost 1500 registered), my guess is that Academy will have approximately 400 - 500 come out for auditions. And to me that number is great for any corps. :)
I wish Academy the best this coming season.
But the thing is, that's not the registration numbers for a week before camps. They're the registration number three months before camps.

How is that appalling?
Misunderstanding of the word. My bad. Thought it meant something more like shocked

Heard a rumor from a veteran from this past year that audition registration right now is "almost 5 times what it was last year". They had 300 come out for auditions last year so do the math. Almost 1500 registered as of now, three months away from first camps. Shocking.

I think it's hard to transition WGI shows onto the field simply because of how intimate so many of the show concepts are. But if I had to pick one, Rhythm X for sure. Hope the direction Bluecoats went in uniforms can push other corps to do the same. Love the WGI-style unis

I heard Mars is getting heavy refurbishing soon

While we're on the topic of Italy, I've always loved Respighi'a other "of Rome" piece, "Fountains of Rome". There's a killer brass feature right smack in the middle of it that I've been aching to hear in DCI or just on the field in general.

What are the chances we see a major uniform change this year to go along with the new leaf they're turning

Gotta love English Folk Song Suite

I was just thinking now that it might work even better for a French horn, transposed down an octave (which is what I would have wanted to see with the trombone, as there's no way they or the French horn can play as high as the piano melody).
For whatever reason I didn't think of bones or frenchies but I love that idea.

I love DrumManTx's idea from a little while back of Academy doing a silent movie show. This would be a great opportunity for them to play soundtrack cues from the Oscar-winning film The Artist. I know BD played "Peggy & George" back in 2012, but there's a lot more music from the soundtrack to choose from. "George Valentin" would make for a fun pit feature (if they want to continue the tradition), and "Comme une Rosée de Larmes" would make a sublime ballad.
Love that idea for a ballad. Just out of curiosity, in your perfect world, would the solo on the front and back ends of that be flugel again?

Design team will have their first meeting in New York over Labor Day weekend...
(Plans are to announce 2017 music, show theme, title, and the new uniform later that week.)
CONGRATULATIONS TO THE 2016 DCI WORLD CHAMPIONS!
You're joking about that part in parentheses right?

Alright I better pounce on this before programs start coming out that could influence my picks.
My preseason top 12
1. Blue Devils
2. Bluecoats
3. Carolina Crown
4. Boston Crusaders
5. Santa Clara Vanguard
6. Cavaliers
7. Blue Knights
8. Cadets
9. Academy
10. Blue Stars
11. Phantom Regiment
12. Madison Scouts
Call me crazy if you want for "jumping the gun" on Boston. I just got a feeling.

Been thinking about The Academy a lot.
Maybe too serious, but I think they could pull off a "Somewhere in Time" show. With how beautiful their closer is this year, doing that kind of beauty over 12 minutes could be really stunning. I can only imagine the costuming for them too. I would kill to hear them to a full on 3 minute ballad opener of the main titles from that. Ugh.
On the more humorous/fun route, I still think that Silent Film idea someone jokingly brought up earlier in the season would actually fit them perfectly, not sure on the music, but what they could do with that kind of comedy could be REALLY fun.
I'm sure I'll come up with more.
I hardcore second that notion about the Somewhere In Time Main Titles. But it sounds more like a closer than an opener to me. And though we'll probably never hear this played by a corps, I long to hear an excellent brass line play it
-
If it means anything at this point, I was told that on the Cadets brass staff, there remains only one tech and he hasn't even decided for sure what he's doing. He's at a "maybe". And I was also told that the potential brass caption head is not a well known name in the activity.
-
Sounds like you got 1 or 2 top 12 and now with the Academy a top 12 it would equal a lessor chance as the Academy are a bigger draw on their on so they wouldn't need another big name to fill the seats
I didn't mean so much to draw seats as much as now the other corps see that Arizona is becoming a DCI venue
-
So as a native Phoenician, I love going out to see the Drums Across The Desert show and it's the only show I've been able to see in person.
My question is with The Academy's rise to stardom, what are the chances that will bring in more upper level corps? 2015 brought Vanguard and Phantom while 2016 only brought Madison (aside from Academy of course).
Yes I'm aware that it's really hot here and that's tough for corps, but is it wrong of me to expect that the recent success they're having will bring in bigger corps? For example Blue Devils adding an extra leg to their west coast tour?
-
Jay is in poor health? :(
I was told that he has aged very much so since 2014 and it's hard for him to still remain heavily active in the activity
-
From one of the Cadets-to-Boston staffers: Bocook is also going to Boston, but he won't be writing the book for them. He's taking more of a "consultant" role for them.

So I'm with all my friends watching Finals and someone brought up something I've been wondering for a while. Fair warning this is a really weird thing to think about, but... Has a girl ever gotten pregnant while on tour?
-
I think BK is going to connect 2014, 2015 and 2016 in some way during their closer. Perhaps a medley of each year's closer? In any case, as has been said...what we see in Indy Weekend is going to be much different that what we've seen to date.
Towards the end of Saturn the mellos play a very similar run to the one they played during Fly To Paradise. There's the 2015 connection

Might be a bit too tough but the Army Band Trumpet Ensemble did a performed Cyclone at a trumpet competition and I heard a 20 second segment that I thought would fit like a glove into a show if executed properly.

Starts at 6:15ish to about 6:35ish is what I'm thinking.
P.S. The flugel section of that video would also work beautifully as a ballad imo.
