I wish BK's guard would make some changes, or clean in a more efficient way.. every other caption they're more or less 8th. If they worked some magic with the guard, they could be challenging Cadets for 7th. That hornline and drumline are so good though.

Still layering it all together, I love how it is constructed around the characters in the painting
Don’t use the word layering!!! Gets people mad for some reason

Great job Crown. Another bronze medal perhaps? Need SCV in the mix to fully speculate. Won’t give up on them.

Wish BK’s drumline would play on the field before the show like they used to. When my brother marched snare in 2010 I always thought it was so cool.

I heard (and I cannot reveal the source) that the "Girls Club" will sing "If I Fell" on the sideline through a heavily processed and intonation-corrected sound system while the rest of the brass does 8-to-5 drills with rifles.
(But you didn't hear it from me.)
Noooooooooooooooo ugh

Or it's possible this person really was taken by surprise. I respect their initial reaction, even as I disagree with their assessment.
Maybe, but this is coming from the individual that said said person had a major problem with the issue. Context is obviously everything, but I was just commenting on the information given to me is all :-)

At Stanford, SCV definitely got the biggest response from the crowd. for 2nd it was a toss up between BD and Mandarins (keep in my there were SCV alums every where). I knew that night Mandarins were for real. Fantastic show. So happy for them.
Same here, they really do deserve this. I’m hoping for spirit or colts to make a comeback into finals this season too.

I’m predicting mandarins to win tonight. If they do, would that be Mandarins first ever show win?

Man when I posted this back in May I thought they sounded like a top 12 corps. Seems to be turning into a reality!!
Along with the amazing feeling from hearing an awesome corps like this in person, you get that same feeling through the phone or computer or whatever by just seeing those folks smiling when it starts getting loud. I bet it’s some of those parents hearing something like that for the first time. I cry hearing my best bud every year when I go watch him, imagine that being my child...

A non drum corps friend expressed concern and dislike
I think it’s just that... they don’t know what this activity was and is about. That’s like if I expressed concern and dislike for the fact they allow hockey players to fight during games. I don’t even watch hockey. It would be ridiculous for me to have a problem with something I don’t understand, especially if it’s not even in the slightest violent like my example is.

I don't think Beast is up to the standards we've seen from Crown since pehaps 2007.
I don’t think crown’s standards have changed much at all, it’s just the personal preference of the viewer really. 2014, 2017, 2010, and I guess now 2018 have all been shows that people kinda didn’t really “get into” but the standard of crown doesn’t change: good marching, good horns, good guard, increasingly good drumline...other corps are just also getting very good at this as well

You could say this literally about every show there’s all kinds of random details that don’t really make sense. Bluecoats neon yellow chairs ... I get it cause Billie Holiday is likely to have sat down at least once... lol but like 12 of them that are neon yellow, it’s just sorta random. They chose to use them more than crown, crown thought the teeth/horns were more of a frame of a painting, just compliment to what you’re supposed to be actually watching imo. Or SCV.. those stacks give nothing “Babylon”-esque, the uniforms do not scream “the fall of a city” Blue Devils and the random Michael Jackson or Indian percussion break. I could go on. All I’m saying is every corps is doing something extra that nobody gets except the corps and maybe a non-member or two they talk to about throughout the season.
As for the placements, we’ll just have to see what happens to be honest. People were expecting crown to get 5th last year and they managed to get 3rd with a “sub-standard” crown show. If they clean, layer, edit some things, I don’t see why they won’t do it again. Only catch this year is there’s way more corps bringing it so it’s more competitive imo, but really I think crown is still just as fantastic as ever.

I guess I’m a minority in opinion, but just because Crown hasn’t beat Bloo yet or because Boston tied them, doesn’t mean they’re completely out for a medal or, who knows. So far BD and SCV have been flip flopping and no one has stopped the optimism for either to win. Nothing is said and done. That being said... every non-drum corps person I’ve shown this seasons’ shows to, Crown or SCV has been the favorite. Does it mean anything? Not necessarily, but I would say it means Crown’s show is not NEARLY as awful as so many people on here are out to make it. I don’t know what people want... for the monsters from a quiet place to come out and kill everyone?? Or serpent Satan to come out and convince the judges to give them 1st or something? Have a little fun with it just like the members are and don’t take things too seriously... go Crown

The cleaner the show, the more the content becomes realized, thus a higher score on both sides of the sheet. So if you have a great run, both might be higher. A bad run, one or both might be lower or flipped. If a judge thinks the corps is outplaying their written book, then you get a profile score (right side higher than left side). Remember, just because the book is there doesn't mean credit is given until its clean and readable at a level comparable to the other corps in their neighborhood. Maybe that helps a little?
Yeah cleared up my confusion, thank you!

Can someone explain what exactly music analysis means? Is it basically all facets (brass, pit, percussion) put into one factor and judged accordingly to the content and its execution? If that’s the case, how do corps switch back and forth if there’s really no major changes to the overall content? Would that then rely solely on execution for these numbers to switch?

Interesting how Crown was first only in percussion but still managed to get first overall in music
