Oops, I posted a thread for this. Sorry if I wasn't supposed to do that. I've been a "lurker" here for at least a decade but still don't know what's OK to do and not do. Which is why I don't post much.

I believe it is simply a scheduling conflict with the Mercedes-Benz stadium. A similar situation occurred in 2017 when the venue was not ready in time to host DCI and the event was moved to McEchern High School in the suburbs. It could have been financial as rental for that facility must be astronomical, and DCI is coming off two years of historically low revenue. However, the Atlanta show has for years been the second-best attended show of the entire tour - second only to Finals. It's importance on the tour cannot be overstated as the majority of attendees are high school band kids, many of whom may one day audition for a corps. It's a recruiting tool, not to mention a bonanza for souvie sales. It's a justified investment, and I'd be shocked if it weren't back at Mercedes-Benz next year.

    Shawn

I assumed it was because after two years of no DCI, and not knowing whether or not DCI would be back in 2022, TPTB over Mercedes-Benz simply booked something else on that date. But I could be wrong. I'm still going to the Atlanta show, but I sure do hope it's back at MB next year.

It was great to see live drum corps again! Humid, but cooled off at the end.

I’d been to the venue a couple times for shows. It’s nice for a SC HS, but a little small. If they could bring in a few more corps, I think they could fill a larger stadium pretty well. I would love to see them at Williams Brice Stadium (U of SC) in the future!

They did have drum corps at Williams Brice back in the day. I think the last time was 1985 - maybe 1986 - but I know I was there in '85.

Is DCI going to be able to get it for the bluray set?

After researching a little regarding Beatles music and licensing, I’m thinking not, but one can always hope.  However, it could be the first year of finals vids that an entire performance is not on the disc...and it’s even worse for DCI if that corps ends up winning tonight and your champ of the activity isn’t included on the set.

ugh, the state of copyright today...sorry to be negative nilly on finals day, but couldn’t help thinking about this all season.  And yes, I’m a DCI video collector thus my concern.

Good luck to all the corps tonight - its been an awesome season!

I was wondering the same thing!

For anyone who was in attendance at CrownBEAT Friday night, what was the first encore tune that Crown played? Was that Band of Brothers?

I thought they started with the first two songs from their show, but I could be mistaken. I was chatting with an old friend during the encore. I do remember them playing "smile, though your heart is breaking" (not sure if that's the actual name of the song).

Does Crown still have to add more of an ending....in years past they add quite a bit on the end around San Antonio. They planning to do that this year as well? From what I remember, in '15, they didn't really start pulling it together until San Antonio....course, I might be mistaken.

Probably. In the past they usually add the "Crown set" as the new ending. But since it's already there, I am really excited to see what new ending they add this year. They usually add it around SA but sometimes not until Atlanta.
