    Recap:

    • Introduce the leadership team - Denise, Justin, Brad, Ron
    • March 31 transition to a new organization
    • 501 c 3 not yet handled but definitely will by March 31
    • "Most" copyrights to show music have been obtained
    • Guard is 50% contracted
    • Percussion full
    • Brass "down to single-digit holes"
    • Brass knows 33% of the show
    • Things are "going great" WRT the corps and the show
    • Spring training site TBD
    • "95%" of sponsors are "the same;" Denise "can't disclose" the few changes
    • New board TBA March 31
    • No new fundraising initiatives; same stuff: M&G, Power the Cadets; March-a-thon forms

    Commentary:

    • What are they doing? In any organization the BOARD is first and the BOARD hires the management team, not the other way around! The managers work FOR THE BOARD.
    • The COO has a "consulting company" that "supports non-profits." Uh.... what?
    • No spring training site?! IT'S LESS THAN 90 DAYS AWAY!
    • I feel exactly zero confidence in donating to this organization which hasn't provided any clear answers about whether it is a non-profit charity or not

This is literally perfect and lets not forget the COO/CFO has no, nada, nothing on business/finance or honestly running a drum corps. He joined YEA! in 2016 as the IT guy when George Hired him... Took over director of ops after sean king was in and out.... and now landed this gig...

When you promote within and hire the board to do what you say and not to help you run an organization... BIG YIKES!

  2. Not enough information about what is actually happening with the organization. None of that information gave me confidence that they are going to be okay. When the management team did not do enough research about a 501c3 and that they do need it to be able to fundraise. The fact that they did not answer how are they allowed to be in world class with a brand new 501c3 after the DCI rule changes...

So many questions that were asked to a simple "We dont see any questions..." and ends the call before Denise can even say bye.... Wow... Not sure if thats the face you want to put for your first meeting as the new cadets!

  3. I love how someone replied to the chat saying they don't need to be a 501c3 to fundraise... but.... Fundraising requires fulfilling several legal requirements. The first requirement has to do with becoming a 501(c)(3) tax-exempt charity. This designation allows a charity to tell its donors that their contributions may be tax-deductible.

  4. So. Decided to check camp out today at Lakewood ranch...

not sure if putting your camp in Florida then having less than 50 brass show up....

now, I don’t know if that’s 50 new brass players or not but...  I don’t know if that’s a successful camp from a “top 12 organization”

Ron, the assistant director(?) who’s below the director of ops(?) unfortunately had to do double duty of band director and try and run camp? Kind of(?)

i wish some of yall were there to observe, that is all. Excited for this call and to see how they will have money to go on the road this year and at least remain on the same level of quality of the top 12!

  5. Honestly. Have y’all gotten the email letting you know you got a call back?

    Have yall seen the books....

Or that one time they still haven’t paid 2018,2019 bus companies. Or spring training. Or the remainder of the staff....

I mean I wouldn’t know or anything just being involved since 2017.... still missing my paychecks....

  6.  I want every corps to succeed. But I don’t want the members to suffer during the process. It’s not fair to those who have already paid for their 2020 season in full for all of a sudden the corps to go in a different direction.

I think DCI, YEA and all of those involve with the cadets need to take a strong look to see if it’s even an option to be on the road.

Also just because the front of the house seems to look good. Doesn’t mean the back of the house is running smoothly!

Ps. Theres certain corps who folded after members have paid and no one ever got their money back!

Simple Question: I am donating to a kid who received a contract.....should I be waiting for "some announcement" before I send the check?!?

I would highly recommend the decision of withholding money until at least the weekend camp is done!

DCI is considering this weekend whether to allow a current member corps to go on tour this summer or not, in part because they’re carrying hundreds of thousands in debt. Anything that puts financial pressure on a corps to keep up with the fill-in-the-blanks in order to stay competitive is part of that process.

In terms of bringing staffs into the budgeting process, many if not most WC corps already do that. The problem is that OTHER corps’ staffs aren’t part of their budgeting process, so what feels like no big deal to the Blue Devils’ budget might be a significant strain to Phantom Regiment’s - but PR is in a situation where they realize they have to keep up in the hardware race or suffer some consequences when the judges tell their members that they’re not competitive because their $200,000 sound system sucks in comparison to someone else’s $350,000 worth of mics/speakers/amps, etc.

It’s why I said that financially impacting rules changes should be considered by ALL players - instructors being ONE, but not the only, group to evaluate the changes early in the process.

I don’t understand why dci would let a touring group go on the road knowing it owes money to university, bus companies, housing sites and staff from previous years, and were talking about more than 2019 debt!!

  9. Also what organization doesn’t have a ceo.... or a person running the business side of things....

4 leaders in an organization FULL TIME PAID STAFF, and were still in this mess....

... Also heads up, how does someone go on the road with so much debt to dci alone....

the announcement video for this years staff for brass specifically mentions that the horns were being replaced for the first time in 3 seasons - so either the brass caption head misspoke or...

    and I haven't been at a Cadets CAMP since 1986 - since you're asking

The brass caption head did misspoke. Like I said. If you were there in December you would of saw the entire organization including staff unload brand new horns, but once again we want to talk without knowing the right information here.

The cadets have gotten new horns 17,18&19 and you’re right they just got new horns at this December camp as well!

    No they didn't.

If you were there December 2018, you would know. I was at camp and I don’t remember meeting you, Mr. Dixon ...

Also, the cadets continued to get horns as the office sold them they bought new ones ....

but you must know so much !!!

    And cue Algernon

    you just posted two falsehoods

    typical

they already took delivery on an entire new Yamaha brass line - do you think Y would have delivered that with a six figure debt owed? The corps didn’t even buy new brass the past two years

they are WAITING on delivery of entirely new front ensemble equipment

Cadets are not flush with cash - so please donate

but alarmist posts on the internet aren’t helpful

how much have you donated Algernon? My guess is ZERO

The cadets did get brand new equipment the last 2 summers....

but i also heard that they might not make it this summer....
