I know many alums who don't post here that support the corps regardless of placement.  I truly think it's the majority.  DCP is a pretty small view of the real world out there.  My experience at alumni events is very different than the tone of this thread.

In the big picture the organization is as strong as ever (my opinion), and continuing to teach life lessons.

    Go Scouts!

After attending yesterday’s rehearsal, one would never know these guys are hovering at 16th place.  Lots of energy...lots of positive reinforcement/teaching.  In fact, I will tell that this year’s energy is much better than the past two.  Now, maybe they are playing more relaxed knowing they won’t make finals?  I don’t know...but the effort was outstanding.

Do you think S.S. would still be telling the men that? Does the current leadership subscribe to that theory? If you take away the Meghan generated souvie sales, do you think the crowd is so enamored with Madison that sales are strong? How many talented performers will flock to Madison's auditions if they lose to SCVC this week? These are all the things that pop into my head when I hear the tired "scores don't matter" mantra. Thank you for using sarcasm to point out the flaw in that philosophy!

You hit the nail on the head!  The best part of their show is Meghan!  A really good female brass player/musician!  Time to jump the shark for real and go coed!   Scouts need a bigger talent pool...especially after the last 3 years!

2016 proved that the "nostalgia bomb" schtick would no longer work for Madison. Going back to that would put a pretty low cap on their competitive success going forward.

2015 was great!  Why they didn’t continue down that path is odd.  Old look worked just fine.  2016 to present....all head scratchers.

Indeed. Shame on this Madison regime for destroying what was left of the Scouts identity & brand. Enjoy the alumni & fan support exodus. Being like everyone else wasn't the answer.

Like the stock market crash...this is the time to “buy in” to the scouts...buy low and aim high!

Did it occur to you that many highly talented and creative people in the drum corps community simply don't want or need a Madison job?

They would if they got paid accordingly!  It’s all money.  They had Colin McNutt...likely lost due to money woes.  He goes to Cadets (great drum line). Then...off to Boston Crusaders.  (Another great drum line).  All made possible by paying decent money.

Am I the only person that thinks a certain number of Scouts fans and alumni live in this fantasy world that think their corps was and is the face of the activity? Refresh me, how many world titles have the Madison Scouts won? To be perfectly honest, the Madison Scouts have mostly been a middle of the top 12 corps in their prime. They would kick a** at the beginning of the season and peak at DCM. They had their heyday in the '70s and the '80s; but even then, they weren't even close to challenging for a world title. And all this talk about "Superman" suits...for real? The Madison Scouts have become nothing more than a caricature of what they used to be; still believing that '94, '95, and '96 are the greatest shows ever, even in the activity. Can the Madison Scouts remain all male and be successful? Of course they can! The Cavaliers are doing just fine. What's the difference? The Cavaliers have evolved with the activity with great show design, great themes, and instructors and design teams that were consistently looking for something new. The reality is that the Scouts are stuck in time and have gotten in such a rut that it's going to take quite a bit to get them out. The talent that folks say the corps needs to climb the ranks will return once those at the top get in touch with reality.

    2 world titles.

Madison alum page was taken down because many were being very vocal of their disproval and the admin felt it was becoming harmful.

That’s too bad. These kids are working their butts off.  Go direct to the leadership/board if you want to voice your objections...of which there are many.  The kids need to be backed up at this point.  I’m certain they hear and read all of this.   This isn’t on them...so go direct and keep it off of this site.  I’m also certain that leadership is aware of this and I’m hopeful they’ll get this corrected.   Or....they need to go.
