I know the days of releasing official videos in either hard media or even streams are gone indefinitely... I saw a post on a social media site that stated that 2023 Audio Downloads would not be released this year.   It would be a shame as the quality of the AIFF downloads the past two years have been phenomenal in terms of quality.  The Flo Broadcasts are decent to very good quality - but I am not certain to what degree they are compressed and mixed since they were broadcast live.

Hopefully someone can shed some light on this topic...

Flo has 2022 and 2023 archives but for many performances, they have silent breaks due to not having the rights to broadcast.

  2. To finish 2nd they are going to have to clean a few things up.  Like the guy that fell over trying to kneel around the 30 (Left side) early in the show or the shoestring weapons catches (with at least one sabre and one rifle drop along the way as well) or the spacing that didnt seem quite right ot different points in the show.  Serms like it was a little bit of lost focus or unexpected jitters from the pressure of being in the 2 spot.  Regaining that focus plus some last minute cleaning is easily worth 0.1 points on the recap.

  3. Just got back to the hotel and I'm still in awe!  Three things though:

    1.  It definitely feels like there is more in store for the ending.  I'm very much looking forward to Indy now!

    2.  Boston's guard is back to their normal form (I feel like before *Atlanta* they seemed to be trying to find their footing).  Further, the 2nd flyover with the blue fabric creates awesome "sea reclaiming the dead" effect.  Crown's design team has their work cut out for them to top Boston for a shot at a medal.

    3.  I feel like the spread with BD is getting compressed just because there is less room for scores to go up.  Their show didn't seem as clean as a normal BD show usually is.  You know they will fix that by finals, so take that in consideration as well.

I’m here in Allentown waiting!   Looks like Friday might get rained out, Saturday looks like the weather will be perfect.  Friday’s rain looks worse and worse as the evening progresses.   If some of the groups get scrubbed, will they move them to Saturday?

Ditto!  I almost want to just skip to tomorrow night!  I'm too excited!  lol

Good draw for Allentown. Going LAST Saturday night .. and if they are going to do the 👑 set … tick tock .. time is running out …

I’m barely recovered from the triumvirate of shows this weekend. But it was fun. Tough to do Atlanta and NightBeat and go back to work Monday.
So we’re down to the last two weeks. 🥲

I don't know if it's a good draw for them going last or not.  Looking at ATL and NB, they did better going before BAC, BC, and BD than they did going after BC and BD.

Here is to hoping performance order doesn't end up mattering though and they finish 2nd (Sorry, don't think they are catching BD).

  6. Might be slightly off topic, but its definitely in line with where the discussion is headed.  Let me preface it with I get that it has been in Allentown for a long time and that it was also the home of the Cadets for a time (who have since moved to Erie, PA).    With that said, a couple thoughts?

    1.  Why not Philly?  Not that much farther than Allentown so it wouldn't affect travel very much.  More high schools should help with housing as well.

    2.  With DCA and DCI partnering for events (ie DCA finals in Indy next year before DCI Finals), what about Rochester, NY?  Yes, I know it is farther and would affect travel plans more than a smaller move would.

    Thoughts?

I also wonder what the savings cost for 128 would be in terms of food, equipment, insurance, needing less staff, fewer props on the field, etc.

No doubt there is a cost savings for food, insurance, and maybe staff (props are irrelevant in terms of member size imho).  My comment was directed at the argument that transportation as a *jusitification to keep* the max member size.

A friend and I were discussing Legend/Shadow last night and we would bet that housing is probably the biggest reason behind cost issues.  In light of covid and tighter school budgets, many schools are no longer allowing corps to stay in their gyms.  The corps have to be housed somewhere so the guess is that means more hotels (which are ridiculously expensive).

Since the busses they use are 55 passenger busses, they would still need three.  But at 128 members, the third bus would be half full, so no savings in what is the biggest expense.

There are passenger/charter busses that have fewer than 55 seats so using a 55 seat bus is not necessarily required.  I don't know the cost difference between buying/chartering busses of different sizes but a 128 member corps might still create a transportation cost savings versus a 150ish size corps.

  9. I know we see the recaps to tell us what the scoring was.  What I would love to know is why Corps A getting a 9.9 in in Content but Corp B is getting a 9.8 instead of 9.85 (or even a 9.9 for a tie).  Even though I did the Symposium thing last year, I don't get that.

For Achievement, I generally get it.  If its challenging and done well, probably the same as Content score.  Weak content done well, Achievement is higher than Content and if not clean a little a little lower.

  10. For Video, my top 4 (order not important) would be:  Crown, Colts, Troopers, and The Academy.  For the 5th, I'd probably go with Bluecoats (Did I just say that?).  However, I wouldn't be disappointed if it were the Mandarins or BAC instead.

For the record, I'm really glad it's not an Audio question because that would be much tougher for me to choose.

weather. Although I was watching intently on the pancho wearers. None of them had put the hoods on indicating it was really coming down. I suppose it was a precautionary measure. Bummer for everyone. At least those that got to perform got some feedback.

As BAC fixing their electronics issue, it started drizzling.  The BAC *guy* was also talking to Decarlo pointing at the sky.  Then, while they were performing the drizzle started coming down a little harder and harder.  In the meantime, BD started pulling up in preparation, and then midway through BAC performance, BD disappeared.  The radar showed a heavy downpour coming with possible lightning.

Separately, regarding you're intermission comment, you are young aren't you?  lol  People need bathrooms but don't want to miss performances...

Just got this in my email…

We are currently experiencing a weather delay affecting the start of our show here in Atlanta. Per a predetermined safety plan in conjunction with stadium staff, we have asked our spectators to shelter in their vehicles at this time as lightning has been detected within 8 miles of the stadium.

Got this at 5:40 after I was in the stadium.  Useful....
