  1. Apparently there is some racing event in Indy same weekend as dci finals. I didn't do block hotel but stayed near one of my kid's hotel. I met Crossmen and a group of older folks on a group dci trip. They were mostly fascinated that I was able to have and keep both my kids interested in the activity to get them to dci world class...haha a few wished their grandkids were marching.

"BUT… problems with championships being held Labor Day weekend and members being in school. Plus members who are parents having to get kids to college sites."

Indeed. It's always been difficult for us to accept the fact that the universe as we know it doesn't revolve around Drum Corps.

Things that interfere and must be pushed away:

    1. Family vacation

    2. Graduation

    3. Prom

    4. Weddings, Bar Mitzvahs/Confirmations...etc.

    5. Wakes and funerals

    6. Court appearances

    7. Final exams

    8. Elective surgery...

The list is endless and the "civilians" will never understand that Drum Corps comes first...period.

Ugh speaking of which...my 21 year old son got jury duty while at spring training this past summer while marching DCI, I almost didn't open the darn notice but I had to call. They wanted to know if the spring training was out of state. Which it was Surf did theirs at Delaware State University and that made it excusable.

i think right now at least it's just working together and trying to give corps performance opportunities. many judges work both circuits so there's familiarity with the sheets

We (DCA corp) have so many members wanting to experience DCI that performing at these events is something our members really want

Were the Cadets their first corps to contact?

That I do not know. From talking to members of my son's indoor group (UP world) it seems like Crown and Cadets were getting alot of SCV interest, it seemed like BAC and Bloo were further into call backs but my daughters bloo friend said 9 were coming from SCV not sure what sect.

Is recruitment really as poor as some are saying?    Is camp attendance way down?

I haven’t heard much, but the two updates I’ve heard (along with Cadet’s financial status) have been very ominous

Attendance was not down. Approximately 170 at a Jan callback camp...no guard this is round 3 for some. 45 SCV showed interest in joining cadets across all sections after announcement which was 3 days before cadets Dec camp.

  6. I think we as a country will all wind up at the same place with openings at some point, perhaps 4th of July?... the vaccine efforts are everywhere and moving forward and increasingly including more individuals. I am totally perplexed by NJ and the increased cases and the fact we are the most restricted as far as openings and mask mandates and have 30% vaccinated.

I just googled to refresh my memory. Interesting wiki only has one line about how someone reported something they thought might be suspicious. At anti-terrorism training the “keep your eyes and mouth open” IOW don’t keep it to yourself was the main point. Think more people have gotten the message after 9/11 about being more aware which goes with my cutting down on the chances post above

On topic (kinda) have been around Baltimore beltway for 4th of July parades. All the message board on the highway have “IF YOU SEE SOMETHING, REPORT IT 1-800-....”. So even corps members seeing the message.

Really on topic: wondering if things totally open for corps for 2022 what will be different. Temperature checks are part of routine, extra steps cleaning housing and practice facilities, all members have to be vaccinated? That would be new normal imo

It was the circuit city guy that reported the pocono paintball trip shooting findings on the digital camera the brothers returned... that was when I left approximately 5 mesgs that my roof was still leaking.

Disagree on the lessening the effects. Hopefully we’ve learned a lot about creating, producing and getting vaccines out to the population. If/when next outbreak occurs that should help.

As for 9/11, being more vigilant has stopped some attacks before they occurred (Fort Dix, SUV in NYC that a pedestrian noticed smoke coming out of it, etc). Stop 100% no, but has helped

Fort Dix, I remember. Those brothers were out to repair my roof the day before their planned attack... my house and family are in the FBI reports... obviously we had no idea what was going on

I am not sure that is true. If you are under 65, you need to have some pre-existing medical issues. The State controls who is eligible to receive the vaccine, not each county.

People 16-64 can sign up and register, but that does not mean they are eligible right now to receive it, barring other issues.

    https://www.camdencounty.com/vaccineregistration/

The mega site has a questionnaire that you fill in and it forwards you to an appointment schedule if you are eligible to receive. I work k-12 my son works for essential shipping and my daughter is in food delivery service and my husband has preexisting conditions. So we were all refered to schedule appointments  upon filling out the mega site form for Camden County.
