I've been saying this the past few years and it still holds true. Here is BDs record since 2007
07. 1
08. 2
09. 1
10. 1
11. 2
12. 1
13. 2
14. 1
15. 1
16. 2
17. 1
18. 2
19. 1
What is next in the sequence?
All patterns break, for their first 10 years in finals Bluecoats repeated their placement every two years, 11,11,8,8,11,11,9,9,7,7 then the pattern broke in 98 when they finished 12th after an 11th place finish the year before.

BD and BK most consistent. Bluecoats and Crown surprisingly too.
why surprising? in the last 10 years Bluecoats have only had 1 7th place finish, and 6 medal placements. the other placements have been 4,5,or 6

How about every 2 hundredths? It's over twice as granular as the current every 5 hundredths, and when scores are divided by 2 it doesn't require an additional decimal place.
yeah, I actually thought that would be a better idea right after I Posted that...lol

The judges have given BD 10's in rep a few times in the last six years even when they performed second to last. And Boston got a 10 in guard rep going on 6th to last this year. Makes no sense, but that's DCI judging for you.
this is why I think judges should be able to use any hundredth number in their scoring, so it could be possible to see 9.90, 9.93, 9.94, 9.97, 9.99 if the corps are that evenly matched that the differences are so miniscule that a tenth of a point is just too much based on the level of parity between these groups nowadays

this got me wondering what placements are missing from Cadets, Cavies, and Crown. They've been in the all the top spots, but in the 70's Cadets and Cavies were in and out and had several lower placements. I would think Crown also has in their earlier years in finals.
Someone mentions 8th place for Cadets.
yes with the cadets 9th place finish they now have only the 8th place spot to achieve the complete set of all 12 places.
it is interesting to compare just 4 years ago when the bluecoats achieved this accomplishment and joined Madison as the only 2 having placed in all 12 spots they were getting that final spot by winning their first championship and completing th climb to the top of the activity they started many years ago.
in contrast by placing 12th this year to achieve this collection of all 12 placements Phantom Regiment continues a downward slide which brought them an 11th and 12th place finish over the past 2 seasons.
So for the Bluecoats it was a joyous occasion and just one more achievement to celebrate in a year full of achievements, and for Phantom Regiment it is something that they probably wished they had not achieved.

If there were a large enough market, a Friday Night Pay-Per-View could possibly work. For many of us who don't want to buy into an annual subscription with Flo (been there, done that, ain't gonna do it again), a simple 1-time PPV would be good.
On the other hand, DCI probably does not want to take away the incentive for people to make their way to Indy. Again, it's about market size. The activity simply is not at the scale to be all things to all people.
That said, we'll be at the theater tonight, enjoying the sights and sounds in the comfort of our stadium-seating recliner.
think about it, the semi finals show would be about 6 hours long, even if they charged $25 a ticket theaters would be losing money on a usually busy Friday night because during that 6 hour time slot they could show 3 movies on that screen at $13 a pop. that is why you will never see the theaters give up a Friday or Saturday night to DCI

Should Phantom place 12th, they will join Madison as the only corps to have placed 1 thru 12 in DCI finals.
wrong - Bluecoats became the second corps to do this in 2016 when they won

one I heard from the stands while performing after the cadets had performed was someone in the audience yelled "Bring Back Garfield" that one always stung

This is my favorite fake-out. Every time I hear a bass drum mark the four beats to march off the field now from any corps, I start hearing the ‘88 BD ending in my head (yes, this has been playing in my head every summer for the past 31 years...).
That was a phenomenal ending to an amazing show, loved 88BD

1986.
I saw 1999 live at the Massillon show. It would be nice to be able to see that one again.
1986 was a fun show, if you remember the vibe feature in doodletown that was me ;)

No, I think he/she was referring to the following:
"I know the current corps is working hard and performing at the top of their ability, but you can't polish a turd."
yeah, the turd in this sentence is the show not the students.

How? They're going between a corps that 2 pointed them, and the other 5 pointed them. Not exactly luck of the draw there.
I think he is commenting on the fact that mandarins go on before the intermission then there are 2 more corps before Cadets. probably doesn't give Mandarins much of a shot of being compared fairly head to head against Cadets so Cadets will probably come out on top in that matchup regardless of whether or not they truly deserve to be.
the timing makes it hard on the judges to state confidently that mandarins are better or worse than Cadets

Funny, that I have holding this same idea back to not take a shot at Bluecoats, but the Bluecoats show without Electronic assistance would sound very different. To my ears the only section of the show that is not electronically assisted is the Acapella Blackbird section in the Ballad. From my knowledge all lyrics being presented by the Bluecoats are pre-recorded vocals, Nothing is being sung live.
Surely the hornline is great, but they sound even better after being processed and enhanced by the addition of effects to the sound being produced.
There are being done at a very high level, but the biggest offenders of this are in fact Bluecoats, a Show that by and large is the favorite show of the year by many.
it's funny how everyone last year was complaining about bluecoats focusing on a live singer and this year the complaint is that they aren't using a live singer...

It being relatively easy to predict a final placement/score at the beginning of the season is a dumb aspect of DCI. Year after year.
you know I bet every year you can probably predict who the top 5 or 6 College Football teams are going to be also, and I'm guessing not once does Ball State, Maryland, Rutgers, Duke, or Minnesota ever get mentioned.

I was trying to recall when the last time that happened. Eventually I thought, surely it hasn't been since '73??
my understanding is they beat them more recently like in 2007, 2008, & 2009 or at least around that time if not during all three years

Seems like some people here noticed.
Can Bloo punch up the difficulty? Thicken up some chords? Replace some eighth notes with sixteenth notes?
it seems easy because they are performing it so well.

I wish but still think it would be cool if the crowd at San Antonio started singing "naaaaaaaa naaa naaa na na na naaaaaaaaa, na na na naaaaaaaaa hey bloo" after bloo performs.
I'm gonna try to get the crowd to do it as the corps enters the field in Allentown instead of the standard blooooo. maybe if we try this at enough shows it will catch on before finals

Yes. To play Devils advocate- BD is probably also working on adding changes to their show which will also be considered by some to be "fantastic"
Bluecoats are certainly in the lead for now- and the article on DCI.org certainly praises them for their accomplishments.
This is the first time the Bluecoats beat BD head to head since 2016- so it's certainly another animal than 2017/2018. The other thing the Bluecoats have going for them is that BD is 4th in music currently.
Because it's BD- I don't think this is over until finals night.
yeah the article was wrong, because Bluecoats beat BD last year in Katy Texas.
and no, it is never over until finals night. we will see if BD can catch Bluecoats or if Bluecoats can do enough to stay on top.
