  1. Haha, okay. Here it is. Hope this one makes sense too. It made sense to me.

I finally understand Crown's show. It took a lot of viewings, but in just watching the guard, I get it now. It's not about a second chance at winning at all, if you really watch it and pay attention, you will see that (I know this will sound corny), but it's more about a second chance at love. If you know the back-story to last year's ending, Peter runs back to his own life, having to leave Tinkerbell behind in the fantasy world. Now fast forward to this show. Same character as before, and at the beginning of the show, with the Mahler, it's the fight between the two lovers, namely as we see the female lead tempted by the second male lead. ending with the first male lead striking down the female lead. Transition into the next part and Danzon, and it's her search for new love. Go to Nimrod, and she's found a new love, but still is conflicted about her old love. Enter again the Mahler Resurrection, and it's the fight between her two potential new lovers. We reach the first ending, and she chooses wrong, going back to her old love. The show rewinds, and she goes to the other love, with the Promise of Living playing signaling her right choice. But the real twist is that Promise of Living also signals Peter returning to claim his love, and the two go off into their own world. See, it makes sense now?

I get all of the "love" second chances, with the guard guys and the guys in "Danzon", but I do not understand how Peter Pan fits into this. It's like this whole show is in a fantasy world too, but you don't know that until the final 20 seconds. I'm not sure how much this was thought out, but what do I know... Seems like a lame attempt at grabbing last year's magic, as others have said.

  2. Please give me an example of one of these strange occurances

    Someone already mentioned this, but:

    1996:

    Quarters

    98.3 Blue Devils

    97.2 Cadets

    95.5 Cavaliers

    94.6 Phantom Regiment

    Semis

    96.9 Blue Devils

    96.6 Cadets

    95.5 Phantom Regiment

    95.0 Cavaliers

    Finals

97.4 Blue Devils & Phantom Regiment

    96.9 Cadets

    93.8 Cavaliers

I think BD was on top for much of the season, anyone know if they were undefeated til the tie?

Yes, it was 13 years ago, but it could happen. What is BD dropped a point or more tonight? :bluedevil:

Anyway, great season and best top 5 of any season, IMO.

  3. So does Phantom really have a good chance at gold? I thought they owned tonight...I easily had them first. That program is absolutely phenominal. I can't say I'm surprised with the results, but really, if Phantom does not win finals the way things are going, it will be the biggest screw up in DCI, IMO...and yes, I mean bigger than passing narration into the rules. The problem is that we see the whole show, whereas there are 9 judges each (supposedly) looking at a different aspect. That being said, and to reiterate, the visual scores are ridiculous! They should not be a point back...

Pulling for Phantom!!!! 0.8 is small, but could still be hard to overcome the way slotting is.

  5. I think the Cavies new ending is awesome, which is why I give the edge to them. Is Phantom getting a new ending? The one they have just doesn't seem exciting enough...I mean they jazz run the whole show and end with expanding 2 blocks using 16-5s.???(Is that accurate?)

Also, I love Blue Devils until they decide to stop what they're doing and play "Dance Movements", then it seems like they take 2 minutes to do what should be a 30-second ending.

  6. (I think there was already a post on new endings, so feel free to merge or whatever)

Ok, I probably missed discussion on this by not going through the 130+ pages of Atlanta or Murfreesboro. There had been talk of the Cavaliers new ending and I heard once that Crown had a new ending. I saw both of these on the Atlanta webcast (afterwards)and thought they were great. How did everyone else feel they stacked up?

In addition to these, I had been reading about Phantom having a new ending. Is this not true? I was disappointed that it was the same from last weekend. I love Phantom and really want them to take the gold, but I truly don't think they can do it with their current ending. It just is not as good as the other 3 corps around/ahead of them. Maybe it's because I'm so used to it now that I want something fresh, but I just think that with such an amazing production they need an amazing ending. This is one reason I could see Cavaliers catching Blue Devils over Phantom catching them.

And with the Cavaliers, just an observation and question from reading on here. I have read several times that some think they are boring and the show just is not exciting and is going nowhere. I agree it is not as loud as most (if not all) other corps. However, I cannot help but be reminded of Frameworks. Why is this show getting so much criticism for being "boring" and Frameworks is seen as almost "Godly"? This is not to criticize either show or to say that Samuri is as good as Frameworks, but 2002 is not exactly an in-your-face, extremely exciting show (as far as everything, loud music, etc.) So why is this? They do what they do, amazing drill and visual production, great tone and playing.

  7. Nice how there are all these other hypotheticals that people harp on day in and out, and I wrote something I read and was thinking about, and you all are

d!cks about it. Every post on here is irrelevant, if you want to look at it that way. This was not a narration/amplification bashing post, just something I saw as interesting.

  8. I went back and read the Star of Indiana recollections today from their website (I have read them before, but it has been a while). If you have not read these, please do...some cool stuff from Bill Cook about the history of Star and Blast!. Anyway, it got me thinking, and excuse me if this has been discussed, but were Jim Mason in DCI today, and more importantly head of a corps, what would it be like? He was innovative during Star's run...of course 1993 Medea. Then, he left DCI to begin Brass Theater, according to the recollections: "electronic amplification and synthesis are used as well as thetrical lighting, back screen projections, and other props to enhance the performance." Would amplification have come sooner with him? And would Star be what many view the Cadets as today? Kinda seems like Mason and Hop could have been long-lost brothers. Thoughts?
