Review of the Cicero show from "the other side of the line:"
Corps on before and after Cru:
I did not get the chance to see any of the other corps, but from their scores, it looks like they did a great job! Congrats!
Cru
As a proud marching member of Cru, my review is from my side of the line:
I am happy to report that the crowd stayed and responded well throughout our performance, and decided not to head to the concession stand for a hot dog or anything else!

To me, the audience was the best part of the show. They were responsive to our performance. It felt good to see and hear them cheering as we passed in review. I cannot speak for anyone else in the corps, but I think they "felt it" too!
I heard "reviews" from several that were in the stands, and they felt Cru did a far better performance than 2 weeks prior in Waterloo. This too made me feel good, knowing how hard the corps prepared for the show that day in that heat!!!
I am looking forward to improving my performance for the audience in Norwich this weekend. Hope to see many of you there!
Congrats to Brigs and the other sponsors for running another great show!
Enjoying my hobby.....

“Oh, God, your sea is so great and my boat is so small.” ~ A mariner’s prayer [July 28 update: Today, Excelsior informed DCA they won't make it to Rochester, according to PR Director Tom Peashey. DCA now expects 25 competitive corps Labor Day weekend, 12 Open Class, 13 Class A. Also, Dick Pronti has extended the I E/Minicorps deadlines to August 20. The news alters this column, posted before. Cozy] Sailing is a humbling experience, much as is drum corps, where the correct tack is always a shifting breeze away. Mother Nature has Her own manner of altering the horizon. Reality has hit some new DCAssociates corps. On track for a record number of entries for the DCA Championships at Paetec Park, Rochester, NY, the possible 28 have now been reduced to 26, currently. In a short time, midstream, mid-summer, DCA officials President Gil Silva, VP Larry Hershman, PR Director Tom Peashey et al. have received the sad news that Cincinnati Tradition and Derby City Knights have backed out, partly as neither feel comfortable about fielding 35, the minimum number. The 2006 record of 26 competitive corps entries would remain the high water mark in DCA history, possibly...

Was there an announcement I missed from Excelsior that they are not competing in this show?
They have been hard at work practicing all week.
Will they be competing in any other shows/Rochester?
Thanks ahead of time for the info and best of luck to them!

Wow, last year, one of our guys Simom Moreirea left his trumpet in his car and his mom had his car and he had his dads truck. So, he calls the mom to get the horn and tells her he's in a hurry so she said to meet her at Costco. SO, he goes to Costco, she sees him coming, she leaves the trumpet on the curb and heads inside, he pulls up and gets out, gets the trumpet and goes on his way.
He pulls into the field and two cops come in behind him and want to know what was in the case. A concerned citizen called in a "suspicious transaction". It was so funny watching Simon because he's like the shy, quite guy in the corps. He had to bring the horn over, open the case and show them. We have pictures somewhere. TOO FUNNY!!!!!!!!
OOOOPS, SORRY DANO, JUST READ YOUR THREAD!!!
Well you tell a story much better than I Costco/Walmart...what's the difference....but thanks for clearing that up!
Anywho...yeah that was the incident I recalled when hearing this....

Having viewed Fusion at there rehearsal this past weekend I will predict that they will be a serious contender for the Class A title. They have a much larger percussion section, brass line is in fine shape, and there guard is working with the corps already. They are running there rehearsals similar to Bush, which is understandable with the fine staff they have brought in.
I must note that I have seen no other Class A corps this year, and probably will not see any until championships. It looks like most of the Class A competition will be from the South, Mid West, and West, Fusion will be competiting against the open class corps all summer, may help, may hurt, who knows?
One thing that would help Fusion is to get Holly out in the basic block. lolJudge
True Dat! and flip the order of her valves around

Yes I am glad when any corps can make it back.
I pray that Sky and Sun make it back!!!
And for that matter, any other corps that has found hard times on them that are trying to rebound.....Keep the faith!

I like Fran's description the best.
I can't imagine what it was like back then to march with Sky. I was born about 20 years too late I am afraid. I envy those that were part of Sky back then. I would do anything to wind the clock back...but life goes on...Good thing we have memories to bring us back to those days. Audio/Video helps to re-live some of these special moments.
I still take Alumni Corps seriously. Still consider it a privledge to be on stage with some of the legends still around. Alumni corps have the job of keeping the spirit of their corps alive and Sky Alumni does just that!
Sky Alumni plan to step it up a notch and march a drill this year. All good. Rehearsal Sunday!
(Hopefully we can get the Sky field corps back on the field in 2009. )
