  1. BLOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO

Seriously.. congrats. When I marched Suncoast, we were ###### when you guys were beating us (throughout the year, but not in finals in 87 and 88, and then in Finals in 89) Competitive bs caused that. But, Suncoast is no more, and you kids tore. it. up. all year. So very happy for the corps from Canton. They Tilted their way into my pantheon of top shows ever. So happy for you guys. Well freaking done.

  2. Even thought I apologized both publicly and privately (the latter got no response, the former got more bs)... Hey, Caliswift... I guess this WAS the BEST SHOW EVER. Scorewise, at least. So, yeah.

Congrats to Bloo for their silver. Congrats to ALL corps for what may have been the best Finals show in history. Thank you to DCI for an amazing year of quality Fan Network broadcasts.

And thank you, and congrats to THE BLUE DEVILS, not only for the win, or the highest score ever, but for delivering a beautiful, stunning show across all captions. Well played, ladies and gentlemen, well. played.

  3. I will throw my hat in the ring too... regardless of placement, this is a show that I will never forget. It has instantly cemented itself in my favorite, ever, shows. (I have been watching shows for 30+ years). This from a corps that I was ###### was beating me when I marched. Way to go Coats, way. to. go.

  4. Crown's trumpet feature was indeed clean., both from an articulation and intonation perspective. BD's feature had clean articulations but inotnation fluctuations. Both teams have fabulous brass. It could have gone either way last night. Crown had moments that lacked some clarity last night.

That being said, this is a fantastic year for hornlines. From top to bottom!

You are there, right? If so, then I defer to live ears hearing it rather than the cinecast.

  5. Curious as to what part of that wasn't clean. Was it not together or was it the actual playing of the notes or were there sloppy attacks ? Just curious.

The various runs seemed muddled and they kind of bled over to the next group. I watched their rehearsal (in Allentown) and it was far more defined. You make an excellent point about the sound at the Cinecast, so I am fully willing to give the benefit of the doubt there. The sound and camera work was, to be nice, sub-par.

(Just to be clear, I LOVE Crown's show this year, I just don't feel that they have had that one run yet, where everything clicks.)

  6. That all trumpet and mello part in Crown's show is the most amazing brass part of a show I have ever witnessed. The 40 trumpet part in BD's show is nice, but it really is not all that difficult. Certainly not in comparison with what Crown did right after that muffler percussion part. Both hornlines deserve to win the Ott and it is too close to call.

I don't disagree at all, when it's clean. To my ears (live at Allentown and in the theater last night) Crown's feature wasn't clean, at least not until the unison impact. I could be wrong, of course. It seemed cleaner at other shows (all Fan Network) earlier in the year.

  7. Oh and I disagree with the brass placement as well. Marching while triple tounging and putting 60 trumpets on the field should be able to win crown another Jim Ott award....

It doesn't matter if you have 6, 60, or 600 trumpets, if it's not clean. Crown's brass feature was not clean tonight, and it wasn't clean in Allentown. BD, however, had a 40 trumpet feature, complete with the all important triple tounging, and it was clean.
