  1. Yes, mello 6V all the way. Being an avid french horn player, my tone was real fuzzy when I started playing the mellophone mouthpiece. But once you get more flexible on it, and build the right muscles, and know the best and most comfortable way for you to play it, then you'll be fine. Trust me, it's worth it. I used to hate having to play mellophone, but now I love it.
  2. Oooh, okay. That makes more sense. :) No harm done.
  3. Curious about what? My embouchure?
  4. Yeah, my French Horn teacher has me doing that, and it's been helping alot. Also, I took your advice, bluestarcontra, and buzzed a whole bunch today- it's already helping. Thanks for all the advice. (By the way, I really enjoyed hearing Blue Star's hornline this past year.)
  5. Wow, that's awesome. I can't wait to see how performing in a different environment will affect their show next year.
  6. Okay, I'm loving the mellophone, I'm loving the whole drum corps magic.... But I still love my French Horn, too. My mellophone chops are still going strong through the off-season, but I'm having a really hard time getting back my French Horn embouchure. Is anyone else suffering this angst as well, or can supply me with some sage advice?
  7. Goodness.... I'm guessing you're not originally a French Horn player?
  8. Ouch, dude, ouch.... :( Frenchie mouthpieces with adapters aren't that bad, are they? Three people in my section (including myself, on a Schilke 29, thank you very much) used them this past season, and the other half used trumpet, and we ended up with a really good sound (probably better than if the whole section had been on french horn mouthpieces... but still!). Plus, all the mellophone players who got solos were on French Horn mouthpieces, and I think that gave something to the solos. I have to play on a mello mouthpiece at school, and although I didn't like it at first, I now hold both mouthpieces in equal esteem. You know Glassmen's show this past year? Of course the mellophones were good, but I think their moving lines in "October" would have been more poignant if they had had the true French Horn sound that Eric Whitacre wrote the lines for. But anyway... I'd like to try a Mello 6, it sounds intriguing. Where can I get my hands on one of those?
