  3. I don't know if anyone has heard on this forum, but it was posted on Rene' Conway's Facebook page last night that he died of a massive heart attack in his sleep yesterday in Indonesia. More information concerning Rene's passing can be found on his Facebook page.

I knew Rene' when he was a grad assistant at the University of Houston working with their drumline. He left his mark everywhere he went and will be missed by many.

  4. Throwing in my own 2 cents...sometimes the "pit soloist" isn't done for effect but because the person performing may either 1)not have the time that season to commit to all the rehearsals and learning a spot, which allows him/her to be able to participate in the performance or 2) the person may be of the age that it's easier for them to perform from the pit.

I know if I reach that stage in life that I'm (heaven forbid) not able to march, I hope the corps I'm in allows me to perform from the pit!

  5. Gulf Coast Sound has made it through the holidays and is back at work every Friday night at Lone Star College-North Harris campus in Houston, Texas from 7:00-10:00 pm. GCS is offered as a continuing education class through the Lone Star College-North Harris campus and we are looking for new members in our hornline and drumline. Tuition for the Spring semester class is $84.00. If you live in the Houston/Southeast Texas area and have that "itch" to play again, come check us out on Friday nights!

We are working toward a late Spring performance at LSC-NH and are looking to participate in the DCA Minicorps Championships in Annapolis, MD over Labor Day Weekend if we have the numbers to make it work.

NOW is the time if you want to get involved in "all age" drum corps in Texas! Maps and directions to rehearsal can be found on the GCS website:

    www.gulfcoastsound.org

    Hope to see YOU soon!!!

We're changing things up a bit this year and we think you'll like what we're cookin' up!

GCS is in its tenth year of existence. After an incredible decade of growth, the corps has firmly established themselves as one of the most exciting and unique drum corps in the world. We have competed in the Texas Color Guard Circuit, Drum Corps International, Drum Corps Associates South and DCA World Championships. Membership is open to people of any age. Previous drum corps, high school or college marching band experience is highly recommended, but not required. The desire to achieve greatness and entertain crowds across the country is a MUST!!!

GCS, now in partnership with Lone Star College-North Harris Campus, has a high quality staff that has worked to design a very reasonable schedule: all rehearsals and performances take place on weekends. This schedule allows members with school, family and career obligations to be part of a top-caliber drum & bugle corps.
