Dci is saying he violated their code of conduct. As a HOF member at one time I believe they all got a lifetime vip pass

I wonder if there is a way to read the Code of Conduct to see what it says? Of is one of those things you have to be in the know to know? LOL

He's a turd in the punch bowl at this point and I don't ever see him being in good graces with DCI, DCA or any of the Marching ARts community ever again. With that said his creative arts cannot be totally ignored and his contributions no matter how you feel about his impact on DCI he left something of a Legacy in terms of product behind. I could see some sort of hammered out Negotiations or something in the Marching Arts community some day down the road for perhaps some sort of NON CONTACT type of Annalist positions with corps or Corresponding with corps Via email or Video on Show Design and such. But anything that would require Feet on the ground or Contact with the Staff or membership should NEVER be allowed again. Just my humble opinion.

You might sneak in, but if discovered they are now within their rights to have you charged with trespass, a misdemeanor, with potential fines and/or jail time. Banning you is one step in a process of escalating consequences.

Also, GH isn't some random guy in a crowd. About half the stadium would recognize him instantly, and many would contact security if they knew he was banned.

I would probably have security called on me and get thrown out If I saw him just being a jerk to him and making sure everyone around him knew who he was and that he is the DH he is convicted of being. But that's just me. 🙂

This came close to actually happening. In the late '50's/early '60's, the Skyliners used rehearsal space above the Palace Theater.

They would open the windows and the Broadway crowds were mystified to find the source of those great NY repertoires.

The sight of some of Sky's more colorful characters roaming Broadway with their suspicious horn cases and ducking into hidden doorways was a rare pleasure for the corps.

But that was a time when drum corps was a contact sport and anything could be seen on Times Square.

Also known by some as "The Good Old Days".  There's probably a decent book about these and other notorious events of many of those senior corps.

Book probably got burned about the same time they st a rted enforcing 10PM curfews at finals.

Based on many of his posts anywhere the last few years it was evident he was troubled. Sad it came to pass as it did and no matter what he said or did, let’s be above it here and not make this a bash fest. He did have a family.

trust me I had my fair share of issues with him that included lawyers calling him telling him to stop. My thoughts on him could long and heavily edited if I said what I truly thought. But I try not to speak Ill of the dead hoping the same would be done for me.

except for Fawber. He knows me too well and I’ve been teasing him about his height since I was 9. He’s earned the right to trash me 🙂

Its funny you mention lawyers. I now remember the straw that broke the Camels Lips Back  that made me put the block on him.

It seems I was still involved with MCL and recruiting and he was either trying to get a Drum and Bugle corps established in Chattanooga or had one in the past and was trying to resurrect it and I just asked him a question that set him off . I think it was something along the lines of I had never heard of that group and can't find any information out about it. Well he proceeds to engage me in a most hostile manner and basically stalks me for days//maybe weeks on end on Social Media digging back into my background and then starts threatening to call a attorney and sue me. When I said something along the lines thats gonna be expensive on you because I have done nothing to you to leap to the level of a attorney or court he got even madder. So I just broke off the courtship right then and there. I guess he had had his fun with me and quit trying to stalk me. I never heard from him after that.

The last thread on Spirits FB page has almost 500 posts and his posts are at various places. Not really possible and I really don’t want to look at them again.

Is there a link I can follow? I am not sure which FB page you speaking of. And and where along the dialog you are talking about. IF you can provide me a link I can probably take it from there.

    Thanks

Dang he was in the middle of the Spirit Facebook mess the other month. Swapped posts back in RAMD days and he was strong with his opinions….

It was always back and forth on RAMD back in the days and even on here back in the days and the two platforms could support that sort of banter back and forth.

Once it bled over into social media and my friends and clients outside of drum and bugle corps started asking me about some of his post and his behavior it starting too close to home. He really started abusing Social Media to the point I just had to block him. Then he started a couple of Sub Forums that I joined that were private and I could watch his head explode from time to time and it was just like the good ole RAMD days.

I am sure Jeff will see this and chime in shortly.

  8. So I saw on Social media that a long standing forum member going back to the way back machine has died. Howdy AKA Dr. Michael E. Schmidt AKA the loudest trumpet
player in the world AKA alot of other verbs, nouns and  adjectives over the years.

We had some interesting discussions over the years. Some pleasant some not so pleasant. He was certainly a spirited debater.

  9. I rather enjoyed attending one show where one corps "played the game" by meeting the 35 rule head on.

There they were. The same corps with its 11 or so "marching" members on the field. Parked on the sidelines were clearly Family members and even small children with Corps T-shirts snapping their fingers during partial segments of the show. Counted every one of them. Yep 36 "marching members" on the field.

Way to stick it to the man...I mean meeting the 35 rule of course. 🙂

I was against the 35 rule until a show organizer I know personally gave me an inside peek. His show had two under 35 member corps and 4 others. Heard enough comments from paying customers that they felt ripped off paying for what was called a 6 corps show. More importantly if the show was like that the following year, they would not attend. Changed my opinion….

Or you can have no shows to host the following years because of lack of corps available to participate because they fold.  Then those paying customers won't be attending. Like what happened over the following years. Pick your poison.

    Going to say this here.....

Drum corps misses The Empire Statesmen!!!!

Every year the corps ENTERTAINED the FANS!!! I mean this in both DCI and DCA too.  I was never a member of the Statesmen and was a loyal Rochester Crusaders member for a few years. Every year the Statesmen made sure that the audience left humming their songs.

Today, probably The Bluecoats are the only corps that entertains the audience.

DCI corps would be wise to read a how to manual by Vince Bruni, if there was/is one.

    Just my opinion

There were only a handful of corps at DCA finals I truly wanted to watch . Statesman was one of them .

Im glad they stood ground and decided to leave the way they did .

Definitely put DCA on a major decline after that .

When we finally do come out from under this pandemic cloud, ALL of Drum Corps is going to struggle a little to get back to normal. It was mentioned that DCA Leadership may end up doing other things to occupy their time and it's more than likely that many members from Corps in DCA will do the same. You are correct. DCA as we know it it dead. That being said I do believe that if DCI were to take on All-Age and grow the product it could work. DCI would have no strict timeline to go follow. Because it's under DCI's umbrella they might be able to sell the idea of All-Age to member DCI Corps. An excellent way to keep age-outs engaged. I also see a way for DCI to grow DCI Championships by making it an entire week of all Drum Corps activity represented. Everyone comes to Indianapolis. Something for everyone and DCI counts the money. Yes, it will start out small I'm sure but has the potential to grow into something real special.

I think there was a time and a place for DCI to take DCA under their umbrella but that time has far past. DCI is going to have its hands full trying to put the pieces back together in 3-5 years from now and trying to get a NE Regional activity like DCA is going to be so low on the totem pole its not going to be funny.

  13. I doubt that DCA as you know it today will survive .  it’s membership staff and supporters will find other things to occupy the time the next few years and when the time IS ripe to resume most everyone that was interested will have moved on .

I could see some form of a mini corps organization gaining some ground and performing stage shows as rehearsals would be minimal and smaller facilities would be needed for rehearsals .

    DCA is dead

saw it on Facebook. can't blame em. what school will let em in? can't rehearse outside up here in the winter

No School is going to allow a outside unit of any kind come into the school system. I was surprised they allowed voting in our schools. Figured they would have designated a "safe" place but voting went on as usual.

There are schools already shutting down for weeks at a time whenever a kid or kids test positive for covid and going to a modified online schedule where they do everything from home and Zoom. Aint no way summer marching bands are coming back for a few years.

Then so be it. There are many, many things right now that are much bigger than the survival of DCI. I agree that the corps that are charging potential members right now should be ashamed. A 2021 season is extremely unlikely to happen.

While Jim is right that if the kids understand the risks of the season not happening and not getting their money back it may be fine, but I still find it a pretty questionable practice.

I agree. What they are doing by charging knowing there is a strong chance there is not a season is right down criminal. Its irresponsible at best.

I am seeing auditions beginning for 2021.  What that means for mm’s from 2020, I can’t say.  My guess is some kids who would have marched in 2020, that were being allowed to extend through 2021, have decided to step away.  What becomes of 2021 is anyone’s guess at this point, so we’ll have to see what the “bridge” year is.

Any corps that is charging kids for audition packs and camp fees should be ashamed of themselves . There is no way in heck the 2021 season is going to unfold and they know it .
