  1. Point number 1 can be covered by the insurance policy .. including losses of ticket revenue and facility costs. All that would have to take place is securing a site that will hold the Sunday just in case. In the dead of summer .... I can't see that being a HUGE problem.

    Point 2, also covered by the insurance policy if a prorated refund were offered to the customers who only got 2/3 of what they paid for ... or if you consider the G7 proposal ... 1/4 of what they paid for.

    Point 3, if it were a planned off day mandated by DCI ....... the logistics are a moot point because the show sponsor would be looking for 2-3 days of housing anyway ... and that is guaranteed paid housing. I don't think my assertions are outrageous in any way. BTW .. Regionals are RARELY a sponsored show .. they are a DCI show, funded and executed by DCI even if they have partners with skin in the game. If it's not a dome ...... this should be part of the plan. I can't fathom why they haven't done so already. Regular shows ...... I get it. Leave it the way it is or at least require the insurance policy to cover losses. it's worth the small additional cost to operate the show to secure that insurance policy.

    So how much would an insurance policy cost? Would you be willing to add the additional cost to the ticket price?

  2. Either way, Scouts are Back! They had more clapping and audience involvement in the theatre I was in than all but the top four corps, COMBINED!

    I hope they make finals only because it will help recruiting for next year. As far as I'm concerned, my brothers had the most successful year they possibly could have!

    Thank you Spanos, Petersen, and everyone on the design team for a wonderful show. That hornline power (BYBO - yeah mellos!), that drumline rock (bassline popped more than any other corps on the big screen), an in-your-face masculine guard!

    [eyes up, high voice] LOVED IT!

    My check is in the mail!

    :thumbup::lol::lol::smile:

    The drumline feature was really cool and the bassline was great! Just absolutely loved it.

  3. Back in the day (early 90's) RAMD was the only place that you could find drum corps scores. The only way you could get scores were if someone went to a show and reported it back to RAMD. Once in a while you got lucky and someone typed up the caption scores!

    It is actually quite amazing how things have changed in such a short while. Now you can actually watch video or listen to a corps show and track its progress throughout the summer. Back in the early days of RAMD there was just no way to do that. You had to rely completely on the RAMD community to get your drum corps fix.

  4. So, let me please get this straight...because I want to be crystal about what I believe you are saying...

    In Sal's position as Director of the Madison Scouts, he had full, complete, and total control over all spending, income, budgeting, expenses...all the financials. Is this what you are saying? That during the Sal Salas years, for the ONLY time in Madison's 70 year history, there was NO Board of Directors whose job it is to control spending, income, budgeting, expenses...all the financials.

    See, Sal was an employee of the Board. Just wanting to be crystal about this. The Board determined not to renew his contract, which is their right. However, the Board also was in charge of all income and expenses.

    So, before we continue to heap blame on Sal for returning the corps to Top 12 for his ENTIRE tenure....let's just be clear on the facts.

    <horns down>

    With most organizations the Board of Directors approves the budget that is created by the Executive Director. The Executive Director is responsible for controlling spending and insuring that the organization is financially healthy.

    A corps placement is the most visible part of an Executive Director's job and that is how most fans judge the performance of an Executive Director. How the corps does on the field is only one aspect of the Executive Director's job. A Board of Directors has to see beyond a corps placement to judge how well the Executive Director is doing. Financial health, retention of eligible members, standing in the community, how well the tour was run all have to be factored as well.

  5. I just spoke to one of my former colleagues at the PBS affiliate in St. Paul, MN (he is their membership fundraising manager and marched with the Riverman in the early 80's). He said the last year DCI was on PBS was 2003. DCI has not offered the broadcast to PBS stations since then. I would bet that a number of PBS affiliates would be willing to broadcast DCI again. Probably not live or during early August (PBS affiliates are doing heavy pledge broadcasting then, hence the duop shows) but probably the condensed version that DCI was offering in the earlier part of the decade.

  6. There is a new recording of the opener for Minnesota Brass on our website. It is from from our 3-15 rehearsal. We're really proud of this chart and the level of the 2006 corps. It is going to Rock! Check it out and let us know what you think at www.mnbrassinc.org

    Joel Matuzak

    MBI Percussion/Program coordinator

    Very nice!

  7. I voted MBI because they are awesome... obviously, but I also wanted to bring attention to the fact that they are called Minnesota BRASS, yet recently, their drumline has been far superior... I would even go so far as to say that their brass has been hurting them this year. Perhaps they should change their name to Minnesota Drums Inc.

    GO MDI!!!

    I was able to catch MBI's final reheasal Wednesday night. The horn line has made a ton of strides the second half of summer. A lot of energy last night and it showed in their performance. Definitely not a liability. The whole package is really good... guard, horns and percussion.

  8. I was able to catch MBI this past weekend. Saw their warm-up and show performance. All I have to say is wow! Makes me very proud to be an alumni of this group. I would characterize them as a very confident battey and pit. They have a very cool vibe about them when you seem them play. Battery book is awsome and they play the #### out of it. The pit is just beautiful to listen to.

    Good luck to the other DCA lines this up coming weekend. Bring your A game! If you want to beat MBI in drums you'll need it.
