  1. there were times in allentown i really like how they were used in the drill, but other times i looked out there and all i saw was dirt. i was talking to someone on staff about them afterwards and he agreed that as cool as they are, they do create some problems. and, the OCD in me is bothered by the one pant leg that is half white, half dark.. they wear a dark shoe and a dark sock but on the white side of the pant leg the dark sock drives me crazy

My first look during opening weekend raised two concerns: the right shoe [which then was solid color] and the visual challenges in cleaning phase. IOW: the slightest variance in body angles was exaserbated/magnified by the design of the uni. True, the staff has incorporated many moments to use the uni design effectively, but you just can't "remove" those times [mostly] when it's not helping. I do like the concept, but even the "cleanest" drill marchers might be viewed "dirtier" as a result of the design.

  2. Have only seen SCV, PR, CAV, Bloo out of the top seven-but do not think the Cavaliers are the corps to beat. And I agree with the posts indicating BD has done it, and are in the driver's seat.

I also agree with the previous posts re: new show design vs 2005 and earlier-not for me. I wish someone would count how many times during the Cavalier's show 2007 there is someone crawling on the ground. Alright, a poor verb choice-but you get what I mean, right?

    Amazing performers, though.

Bloo is amazing this year. SCV will continue to press to the top.

    That's what I think.

  3. Jared-good post! Many other fine viewpoints weighing the merits of show design, staff, performer talent base, expectations, identity et.al.

I, too have devoted numerous hours observing rehearsals, interaction of staff with performers and monitoring the corps' rise in finals.

I respectfully disagree with the previous poster's description that the identity/impression/moniker of the corps is competent-I simply must give more credit, not only to this corps, but all. I think excellence fits better.

So, my vote. Yes, I know competitive arenas beg for predictions [da bears WILL win the division again]. But as much as it seems to be skirting the topic, I am uncomfortable in the arts attempting to predict outcomes.

IOW-I can easily accept if "MY" corps [whomever that might be] places anywhere from year to year as long as I feel that the product IS excellence, and most importantly the approach of the organization is educationally and emotionally well-grounded.

Because the Bluecoats as an organization, imho have consistently embraced this ethic their presence is now among the highest come finals. I think they have remained true and genuine and are reaping benefits.

Every year in DCI there are several "Gold" level finales. Thank goodness for that.

In.trance.it is inclusion - across or beyond - a climactic point, the idea of movement, the experience of traveling, being somewhere now and somewhere else later. The thoughts in life when you are in a trance while going from life moment to life moment, to be among so many, the next to be alone.

American composer Richard Danielpour wrote, "there must be a moment of the "aha!" - of discovering something beyond one's own immediate environment or experience in order to grow" and composed the rhythmically, vibrant, melodic orchestral music of "Urban Dances" and "Celestial Night" with this in mind. It is within this thought and music that we find the source of inspiration used in creating In.trance.it and becomes the basis for the harmonious visual motif of lyrical motion.

    Repertoire: In.trance.it

    Urban Dances by Richard Danielpour

    Celestial Night by Richard Danielpour

anyone heard the original of this????

  5. Looks like a wonderful weather day for rehearsals and show. Always loved just a little cooler night to "pop" some db's at the crowd.

Anyone currently there watching rehearsals-please post for us what you're seeing/hearing throughout the day so we can get the daily feel.

    thanks

  6. My vote goes to Bluecoats.

Great horn arranging - Doug Thrower

On top of that, you have Dave Mackinnon, Dave "Antman" McPhee, Trevor Yuile, Jeff Wolfe (in the winter), and there are probably some more I don't know about. Great staff. No option on the survey for them though...

I agree with the bluecoats vote. Sad there's not a place on the ballot. Chads anyone? (8-]
