  1. my statement had NOTHING to do with last night - it was brought up by someone else who was at the show last night. I made the statement based on 30 years of following this fine activity. There's a big difference between midwest audiences and those from the west, south & east. I stand by that statement - anyone questioning it can refer to the Star years for further proof.

I'm with you George 100%! I was there in Kansas City in '89, '93 Jackson, '03 in Orlando ... etc. etc.

The Phantom Regiment fans booing Star everynight when they marched on the the field in 1993 still makes my blood boil <**>

  2. It’s funny. I’m setting here at my PC working on some Budget summaries for my company – listening to the APDs that I bought and downloaded today – Phantom, Boston …etc. Then something occurred to me while listening to the Cavies and the Bluecoats.

Well, low and behold – I’m listening to the Cavies and they’re playing while Mr. Cocker is announcing them. Think to myself, “what a nice buildup into their Machine program. Then, it’s the Bluecoats doing the same thing. Again, “Wow, they’re doing a great job setting the mood – nice vibes.”

I remember in 2003 and 2005, the Cadets were blasted for marching and playing their introductions while Mr. Crocker and others were announcing them for competition. It was just not done. It was rude. It was disrespectful. How could they do something like that!

Interesting, I have not seen one negative posting to date on Drum Corps Planet about the Cavies or the Bluecoats starting their shows this way.

Hum, what’s going on here? Has this become the norm? Oh no!!!!

Guess time changes the view.

  3. I'm out of luck this year due to a conflict with work, so I'm selling my Madison Tickets. Before I list them on Ebay, thought I would post here.

Asking Face Value plus the shipping cost that DCI charged -- $448.00.

Tickets are in the "Friends of DCI" section -- Section "E" above row 30 -- same seats all nights.

If you're interested, please send me an email at Boybugle63@aol.com

    Thanks!

Selling two tickets for each night.

  4. Now it's come to this.....we criticize the people who forked over $1,000  or more in some cases to fly in or drive many miles in, attend DCI Championship Week, and because some decided they did not want to give some Corps a rousing ovation, it's " the fans  fault  "who attended. I did not hear any booing at Quarters, Semi's, or Finals. I also do not recall any booing in 1993 of the Star of Indiana at Finals  in Jackson, Mississippi after their performance there either. This seems to be a " surburban " myth that is out there. How these things are created, I'm not sure. But I did not hear a single Corps booed at  the DCI Championships after their performance this year. So I have no idea what you  and others are talking about as you  set out to castigate the 25,000+ fans at DCI this year  ( and in 1993)for something this poster never heard from a single DCI fan at any of these shows.

The "Surburban Myth" statement is not true. I was there in 1993 cheering on The Cadets.

I was sicken and shocked by the boos that came before and after Star's performance that year at Championships. I also know that the boos came during those performance by Phantom Regiment Supporters <**> . Why do I know, I sat right in front of them.

No reflection on the 1993 Phantom Regiment tho – they were wonderful that year.

  5. From CardMan's review -- Broken Arrow:

"Phantom will wind up beating the Blue Devils on finals night. No offense to the Devils, or anything...it's just that this show is so great, others are bound to fall to it (as did the Scouts tonight...)" ....

Now what type of Frog did you kiss and where did you find it??

Great Review "BSSOP97." It was a wonderful evening in Murfreesboro.

  6. Good Morning. What a great Drum corps day in my Hometown of Murfreesboro and Middle Tennessee. I was very worried about the weather moving into the evening, but it worked out – I think I checked weather.com a 1000 times the four days before Friday. From Monday to Thursday, we had glorious fall like weather, but Friday that all changed.

Left work around noon. A good friend of mine was able to attend the Murray, Kentucky last night and gave me an update on the performances. He’s a huge Santa Clara fan, so wanted his thoughts on their show. He loved them.

Thought I should go watch my beloved Cadets practice before I heading to my Mom and Dad’s place in Murfreesboro. The skies were not looking good. My timing was perfect – 10 minutes before they started Ensemble Practice. The Cadets had a strong Ensemble Run and were having a great time out there. They gave us a preview of what to expect tonight which was great.

After the Cadets finished, it was time to drive to Murfreesboro for a quick meal with the folks and load the crew up for the show. The crew was me, my older sister, two nieces and one nephew. I’ve been working on the kids to become interested in playing an instrument and it paid off last night. My youngest niece announced last night after the Blue Devils show that she was going to choose trumpet for Beginners Band!!! Woo Who!!!! Gave Uncle Bubba a smile last night.

Off to the Stadium. As we were driving into the MTSU area, saw the Blue Devils buses at Campus School. Even my 7 year old Nephew said, “Those are nice.” There was huge crowd at MTSU last night. Even with a large number of fans there, the crowd seemed a little conservative in their reactions to the shows. Of course, one of my comparisons I have is with the Orlando Finals crowd of last year. Folks, last year in Florida, it was a big party at finals night. We had a great time.

Just a note about the Fan Voting of the performance order. If you were one of the several that hoped to place a corps on early in the Daylight, sorry, but it didn’t work out for you. None of the corps march in the daylight last night – due to the clouds and sun set around 8:00pm. The Stadium lights were shining on all the corps last night and did the corps shine for us drum corps fans.

No deep analysis of the shows here. Just some general comments.

Bluecoats opened the evening up in a great way. Mature sounds from the ‘coats last night. The “One Day I’ll Fly Away” ballad is performed wonderfully. Music Caption, they were in 5th place and I have to agree. Great improvement since Louisville.

The highlight (for me) of the Madison Scouts show is “Malaga.” As one long time Drum Corps fan, hearing a classic makes me smile. It’s great to see how the corps has grown since 2002. The guard has maturity and confidence this year. I would have had them in 5th place in GE last night.

The Cadets had a great time last night and the crowd enjoyed. The “Rocky” warm up had me on my feet with a smile. The show rocks. Performance levels are up. The Show is coming together. Thought the Brass score should have been higher and as well as GE. The end of “Bouree” had folks on their feet. It’s time to clean, clean, clean. I agree with several that the Cadets and Santa Clara are the wild cards this year for finals. Good luck to my Maroon and Gold Crew. Love my new T-shirt that has a baton and amp on the front of it! I’ll wear it with Pride.

Boston has grown so much over the past 5 years. I can remember seeing them back in 1996 and wondering if they would ever make it to the top 12. The maturity of this corps is awesome. “The Composition of Color” music has grown on my over the season. Yes, they have many of their trademark drill moves that you’ve seen other seasons, but it works for me. The Narration portion of the show has been cut down since Louisville. Great job.

Cavaliers are men on a mission this year. I enjoyed their performance in Louisville and last night. I haven’t been a huge fan of their most recent shows (musically, not visually), so the “Bond” show is a favorable change. I’m not sure if they just changed the ending this week while they were in Murfreesboro for 3 days, but it works well. Guard is first rate and should do well in Denver. One side note, a few seconds into the Cavies performance, a familiar tune was heard off in the distance – It was the “Bottle Dance.” Santa Clara was doing some warm ups and the timing wasn’t very good ;-).

When the folks from Phantom Regiment made their show announcement, I went to search and found several of Astor Piazzolla’s CDs to become more familiar with the music. Phantom does a good job with Piazolla’s music. Horn line is wonderful. Agree with an earlier statement about the Mellophone, great runs.

I’ve been fired up about seeing Santa Clara since they announced their show. This is a Championship show, if they can pull it together. A member fell during the first impact, but recovered nicely. My lord about the Percussion. WOW! Felt their brass score was too low. Guard had several drops, but still projected confidence. This is one of two wild card corps. I, like many others, hope you can do it Vanguard.

The train ride continued for the Blue Devils last night. They are clean and cool. They won Brass as they should have last night. No one can touch them there. I see no weakness in the corps at this point. It’s a total package. Yes, the drill is not as challenging as the other top 4 corps, but their show is marched with such certainty. Guard is incredible.

Well, Murfreesboro was the last live performance for the 2004 season for me. It’s off to Opry Mills for Thursday night big screen night.

Good Luck to all the corps. There have been so much negative postings about the season, but I’ve enjoyed it. I enjoyed drum corps back in the late 70’s and I still do to this day.

I hope everyone enjoyed the show last night as much as I did. Thanks for coming to Middle Tennessee and hope to see ya’ll next year.

    Take care.

    Wilson
