  1. Howdy! My name is Hank Wahrmund and I am the Housing Coordinator for THE EXSIGHTMENT OF SOUND, Houston’s Drum & Bugle Corps show held annually in July. I am reaching out to all band directors in the Greater Houston area via this forum in hopes some of you can help. This year’s Houston DCI show will be July 20 at Berry Stadium in the Cy-Fair ISD area (Northwest side of Houston) at the intersection of West Rd. and Barker-Cypress. We moved to this new facility in April when Rice University suddenly notified us that due to summer stadium renovations they couldn’t accommodate us this year. We are searching for two more corps housing sites. We have eight corps in this year’s show, all with slightly varying travel plans for our show on July 20. Generally, we are looking for schools that can house a corps for a time period ranging from 12 to 48 hours during the July 19-21 time frame. Each corps needs at least two mowed grass football fields to practice on, a large gymnasium for corps members to sleep in and 3-4 other rooms for corps instructors, volunteers and drivers to sleep in. If you are a band director at a Houston area school (anyplace within 60 miles of Berry Stadium on Houston's northwest side) and are interested in housing and have the facilities to do so, please contact me as soon as you possibly can. At your convenience, I would then meet with you to tour your facilities as per Drum Corps International requirements. This on-site “inspection” ensures that each site has adequate showers, truck parking areas, fields and other amenities needed by a corps traveling party ranging from 120 to 190 people, depending on the individual corps. In return for your hospitality, your band members and staff will be offered half-price ($10) tickets to the show July 20. In addition, your band, school and district will be honored in our show program, during the show via PA announcements and scoreboard messages, on our Website and in other promotional materials related to the show now through summer 2007. The local community around your school will benefit financially because each day a corps is at your school the corps spends about $5-8,000 restocking food, other items and fuel supplies. But above all, your students will be able to observe a drum corps “up close” during their rehearsals and can interact with these incredible musical athletes during breaks, enhancing their music education and experience. And it won't cost your band as much as some clinicians might charge for similar programs. In behalf of THE EXSIGHTMENT OF SOUND, thank you for your time and favorable consideration of our inquiry. 2. Howdy! Got your tickets for the 12th Annual Drum Corps BBQ Bash in Houston on May 6? No? Aw gee…what are you waiting for? Only 3 days to go! You don’t want to miss the fun (lots of “live” entertainment), great food (huge BBQ meal from Lenox Catering: BBQ beef, ham, sausage links, sauce, beans, cole slaw, potato salad, pickles, peppers, onions, bread, lemonade and iced tea), great prizes including drum corps DVDs, CDs and lots of nifty drum corps souvies, plus tickets to Houston’s DCI show, movie passes,, drumsticks from Pro Mark—more than 60 prizes! And if that’s not enough, you can watch drum corps videos on our big screen with surround-sound, eat some of Phantom Regiment’s 50th Anniversary cake with PR corps director Pat Seidling or talk with DCI board chairman Jeff Fiedler of The Cavaliers about DCI moving Finals and possibly the DCI offices to Indianapolis starting in 2008. Or maybe longtime DCI show announcer Dan Potter will tag you for your “15 minutes of fame” as he interviews guests at the Bash for rebroadcast by DCI later on this year. It’s YOUR drum corps party—we just host it each year to raise money to help members of DCI corps with their summer fees and camp travel. Join us on Saturday, May 6, from 11 AM to 2 PM at the Doss Community Center at 2500 Frick Rd. in Northwest Houston (just south of the intersection of North Beltway 8 and Veterans Memorial). And if you’re really into a great time, try one of our contests: “Fastest Drummer,” “Longest Note Held” and the “Color Guard Challenge” and win great prizes. As we said—it’s YOUR time to have FUN! Save money—buy advance tickets for just $10 adults/$5 ages 12 and under. Call toll-free (877-880-8124) or visit the Tigers’ Website to order or get more info: www.DrumCorpsTigers.org. Tickets at the door (if available) will be $15 and $10, respectively. Thanks for your support of drum corps and the Tigers. See you May 6!!! Drum Corps Tigers of Texas [Most members of the Drum Corps Tigers of Texas never had the honor and privilege of marching drum corps. But we love the activity so much that we started a non-profit organization that works hard to follow our Mission Statement: "To promote and support the drum and bugle corps activity and the outstanding musical athletes who participate in it."] Hank Wahrmund Dennis LaCaze Craig Bales, M.D. James Loomis Kyle Sajdak Laura Anderer Michael Arrington Kevin Kilgore Mike Jones Gladys Vacek Casey McMillan Audrey Brown Cory Meals
