  1. Wow, guys...I am glad I took a look here on DCP. I don't read it anymore, nor do I follow drum corps anymore, but I figured that maybe I should do a search on 'rotator cuff', and I found this thread.

I started having shoulder problems this past winter, and went to the same surgeon that re-attached the tendon in my left wrist (thanks Kevlar heads!) in 2006. I switched to baritone in 1991, when I started to have wrist problems from playing snare. I never would have guessed that playing a baritone would cause so much damage to my right shoulder.

The Dr. suggested PT first, which didn't work, then a minor procedure to clean up the calcium deposits that were found. That was the middle of May, and I was able to march in the Memorial Day parades with no problem.

The pain came back in June, and in some different spots, and in the form of a painful cramp. I guess that is a telltale sign of a rotator cuff injury. I went to the Dr. last week (it took from mid-July to get an appointment..this guy is good), and I will be having rotator cuff surgery in early November. Everybody is saying this will take months to recover.

Thanks for the info, and I also thank drum corps for messing me up even more!

I think this will probably be the end of my drum corps career as well :(

  2. I am looking forward to seeing everybody at the show on Saturday!

I have never seen the Bridgemen live! I'm going to be VERY excited to see them!

As I remember, Steel City and Bucs had a great relationship back in the day! I remember partying with Reading at the Howard Johnson's in Scranton...the one with the huge deck that all of the rooms opened up to.

Is there a party after the show?

  3. We're 180 miles from Rochester, .....got a half a pack of Lucky's and a full tank of gas...It's dark out and we're wearing sun glasses.....

    "HIT IT!!!"

Gene, those are cataracts, NOT sunglasses! LOL!

Some of us from Steel City are being pimped 'aht for CorpsVets honor guard. I have never marched with them before, but several have marched for 5 years or so.

I may be there, I may not be....I have been plagued with a nasty bronchial infection for the past 2 weeks. I am not coming if I dont feel better by friday morning! It figures, I quit smoking and I still get sick.

All I know is that I cant party like I usually do this weekend, and it really stinks!

  4. Jeff,

Sorry to hear the bad news. Is there any hope of financial/personnel help from the General Butler Vagabonds? They still have a corps hall, buses, successful bingo and the parade corps has been getting a little older from what I've heard. I had heard that the Big A wanted to take a more senior corps route in the future anyway.

Anyhow, sorry to see Drum Corps lose another of our family.

    Pearl

There is nothing in Butler but a handful of little kids banging on drums and tooting on horns for parades. The corps still runs a gigantic money making bingo and has a corps hall and another corps hall for rehearsing.

There have been two senior corps to come out of the General Butler organization in the last 10 years (Butler Soundwave and Nightstorm). The thing is, Andy has to spend that money that is generated from the bingo! Yes, that would be a great place to start a senior corps, plus it's 20 minutes from my house.

  5. Some of you may have heard that that Denny Graham, Director of the Steel City Ambassadors Alumni, has been quite ill lately. He has been in the hospital for months and has had many things happen including a stroke and various infections. I believe Tom Mahan is the director now, with others pitching in. Please keep Denny in your prayers. He's one of the good guys. The following is from our webmaster:

Most Corps members know that Denny Graham is in Mercy Hospital in bad shape.

He has underwent at least 2 operations since November and has some bad complications.

On top of that his employer has laid him off stopping all his benefits.

Bills are piling up for him and his family.

Last Sunday we had a collection for Denny and we are setting up a fund to help out with his bills.

Anyone wishing to contribute can send their donations to:

  6. I'm posting here because I had no luck in the marketplace, Brass Shop or Dynasty. If your corps or an individual has one or more availible please get back to me. I also have some 'F' Dynasty marching french horns in silver I would trade for 'G' marching french horns and a Bb Blessing Baritone in chrome I would trade for a 'g' horn.

    Thanks,

    :)

Jeff, I recall that back when Soundwave left Butler for West Virginia in 1995 (Appalachin Brass?), that we just bought 4 or so flugals. They came from Devils through the Brass Factory.

Did you try Andy Yaracs up in Butler? How about the Marion Cadets? (Whatever they are called now).

  7. I have the TubaChristmas music in G on my website.

    http://tubadon.com/Tubachristmas.htm

Hey, this link is not working!

Some of us from Steel City are going to Tubachristmas on Sat the 10th. I have been playing in Tubachristmas with my bugle off and on since 1994.

Funny, one of the people from Steel called the Tubachistmas people and asked about bugles and they said that they frowned upon them!

I have the fingerings for the transpositions written in my Tubachristmas book.

  8. Genvieve Danis from Brigs is the most incredible musician I have ever played in an ensemble with! Gorgeous tone! (like buttah). I didnt know a baritone bugle could sound that rich.

Sops would have to be Curt. I marched with him in Steel City in 1989-90, and when I heard him playing in Cabs I couldn't believe how great he sounded! A nod to all the horn guys from General Butler that were fantastic (Curt, Ed Lewis, Pat Cavanaugh, Rabbit and their teacher...RIGGIE!) Man, what was in the water up there in Butler?

Put Pat Cavanaugh down for best french horn....He made that piece of junk horn sound musical! He and Curt were DCI solo champs the same year! (late 70s or early 80s; I cant remember). He needs to get his BUTT to Steel City Alumni!

Mellos....hmmm....I sure liked the guy from Cru in 1993??? I know he was Dan Shyne's brother (oooo....Dan...another great baritone soloist!)

  9. I think you're referring to Scotty McFee.  Scotty passed last year, but was always active with the Skyliners as he was a charter member.  We miss him dearly.  The Skyliners Alumni has charter members who are still active in the drum corps community whether playing in the Alumni, or singing in our Chorus.

I won't forget to mention our "seasoned" American Section who also fit into this group of well-distinguished gentlemen.

I love to hear the stories of when they march best!

    Barbara

OMG, I remember marching Macy's in 1994, and riding the bus with Sky's American Section!!!! I never heard old people say the f-word before! What fun people!!!! Great stories!

  10. I'm sorry, but I'm gonna say it. I am not marching anywhere this summer, so I can feel free in saying this:

Steve Gadd....another Crusader that goes over to the Blue Team (if this is at ALL true what is being said on this thread).

There, I've said it. Flame away.

  11. I haven't seen this addressed yet. Does anyone out there (in the know).....know if we are going to be able to leave and re-enter prelims and/or finals on the same ticket? This was a hot topic last year and it would be nice to know if this has been resolved. If the intent of this proceedure is to keep everyone sequestered to patronize the concessions, IMHO, it's BS. (but that's just me......)

I dunno, Gene! That really did stink last year! I bet their re-entry policy is the same.

BTW, I'm coming to finals, but finals only. Good luck in minicorps THUNDERBIRDS!

  12. OK....I believe I am going to be coming to DCAs now! Not only am I looking for a room, but my friend and I are looking for an honor guard to march with.

Anybody need bodies in their honor guard???? If you can answer either, please send me an email at finebari3@msn.com. Thanks!!!

BTW, there is a real nice State Park called Francis Slocum State Park in Scranton with a nice campground if you want to go camping!

  13. Yinz.....My friend, is Picksburgh-ese. Means the same as ya'll.  OR Yoose....(Pittsburgh.....you know.......home of the Pittsburgh Stillers.....?) It's a language unto itself. There's even a publication explaining it 'nat (and that). I'm not from dan-air (down there) I'm from mupeer(up here). (all contractions)

I have a daughter that has been living there for about 10 years now and speaks the ....."ese" quite proficiently (needs 2 glass of wine though).

No disrespect meant to our good friends the Steel City Ambassadors with whom we are quite close. All in jest.

Did I answer your question? b**bs

    Hehehehe....Great explanation, Gene!!!

You may wonder how somebody from 2 and a half hours north of Picksburgh can speak Pittsburghese, but they do up 'ere in Erie!

There is a website devoted to a Pittsburghese dictionary. I actually contributed a word to it: Still Fanum. (a roller coaster that was in Kennywood...now has been transformed into the Fanums Revenge)

BTW, I may be comin' to finals this year....and my friend and I are looking for an honor guard to march with, so I'm pimpin us out. If anybody needs bodies for honor guard, please let me know.

Any rooms with Thunderbirds left???? I loved going to the Italian Fest every freakin day!!!! Leave the gun, take the cannoli!

  14. Great venue, great crowd and one helluva party at the American Legion Post afterwards.  I think I still have a buzz from last night!

How was the party???? Sorry I missed it! I had to drive back home and missed the scores (like I ever pay attention to those!).

I was VERY impressed by the White Sabers!!!!! Way to go Dr. Ben Dover!!!!
