  1. You can get the AliSyn from Woodwind and Brasswind, it's a little pricey for a tiny .6 OZ bottle, but it will seriously last you for years. It isn't the fastest oil, as you can see from that lnk that was posted, it's very thick...but I didn't find it to affect my playing. I applied the Pro Oil Hybrid, and I've been using it for the past week...so far, it's the best valve oil I've ever used! It stays on much longer than Al Cass or any of the other common valve oils, and it's very fast. It basically has a lot of the benefits of the AliSyn oil, except it's faster and it's compatible with other natural oils, which is good in the event that you run out of oil or lose your bottle on a gig because you can just use whatever someone else has without gunking up the valves. I'm deffinitly going to stick with the Pro Oil, and I might order one of those huge bottles just so that I always have enough. Thanks for the advice, guys. Ryan Beucke Beucke47@potsdam.edu
  2. I agree with you Ed that you should oil your valves often...when I used regular natural valve oils, i'd always wipe down and re-oil the valves at least every week, even when they were fine. However, I've been using the AliSyn for a week or so, and the impression that I've gotten from other people who use it (my teacher included) is that the oil is very different than most valve oils, and you should only really reapply every few weeks because it is so thick and stays on for so long. And mrshowfan, is your name in reference to Mr. Show with Bob and David? Me and my family are obsessed with that show....the DVDs are like the Bible to us. Ryan Beucke Beucke47@potsdam.edu
  3. I just got a bottle of the Hybrid Oil, and next week I'm going to take my horn home and give it a bath and try the oil. Thanks a lot for the advice!
  4. I went on WWBW and found the red Pro Oil, which seems more like a regular oil, but then they also have Pro Oil Hybrid, which says it's a clear oil, I'm assuming you were talking about the Hybrid oil?
  5. Hey, I just read this thread on sunday, and read what Pittman said, and then monday, I was practicing in a room, and there on the piano was a very old bottle of AliSyn oil. It looked like it was at least 10 years old, because the oil was pretty yellow, but taking it to be a sign of fate(I have a 1 year old Yamaha YEP642-S with tight valves and I've been pretty unhappy with my oil choices so far), I immediatly cleaned my pistons and valve casings that night and tried it, applying only a few drops to the bottom of the pistons and then working it in. So far, I've had the most consistant valve action ever on that horn, especially on my somewhat problematic 2nd valve. I talked to my teacher, and he said he also used to use AliSyn for the summer when his pistons got swollen up, and condoned, so I just ordered a bottle of it from WWBW. So to answer your question, yes they do still make it, and yeah, I think it's awesome too. A little pricey for such a small bottle, but considering how long it lasts and how little you use, I think it'll last for a long time (####, this bottle looked like it was from the 80's, and it was still 1/3 full).
