  1. uncle z:

Sarnia Sam did a great job on YOUR test of Canadian drum corps trivia,

technically #15 should have been Seneca Optimists, what a great show that

was at Marion that year. We were late by an hour starting our show, Northstars

because of the rain, but that crowd was really something else.

#26 I know one of these artists is Don Daber, is the other Steve McCusker?

That's the only other one I can think of.

  2. Ya Sue, it wasn't that bad. He taught Dutch Boy Cadets until the summer came.

Then just before we leave for our U.S. Open, American International tour he bugs

off on us and goes to teach, I think Seneca Optimists. What a guy huh? <**>

Instructs us all season and just before we go on our major tour he's gone. :(

Well I guess he got a better offer, too bad because we had a pretty successful

time. Remember Butler Sue? HHHMMMMMM!!!!! <_<

Still he was alright. He brought our bass end up to where we were a lot better

    than the year before. :P

  3. I never had a chance to march finals but I often still dream about it.

Standing there with the lights on, looking up into the stands seeing all those

thousands of people. Then you here Brandt Crocker say: "You can take the field of competition" Then you mind goes completely blank, you forgot everything your

supposed to do, HOLY SH_T!!! b**bs :sos: :sshh:

That's MY dream almost every time.

Tell us about your first time at finals, your feelings, emotions, everthing!!!!!!!!

  4. In the past 12 years there has been hardly any DCI shows in Ontario or anywhere

in Canada for that matter. After all, with exception of the 5 or so drum corps that

are left in Ontario, we NEED some BIG time shows up here.

After all, it's not like we don't come out when these corps come up here. I'd like

to see DCI CANADA come back to Hamilton next year. There is a wealth of alumni

up here who are dying to get a blast of TOP 12 DCI caliber corps again. If DCI could please do something about this I'm sure it would be worth their while.

Maybe some day, but who knows. ^OO^

  5. You're right Raephel18, the shows of today are more demanding than most of the

shows of the 70's and 80's. However, we both worked just as hard because what we were doing was evolutionary to the shows of the 50's and 60's.

I sit in the stands and hear other alumni talk about the things that the corps of

the 90's and today are doing and let me tell you something, it's fantastic. Unlike some alumni who sit back and try to find fault with the things that you do in your show, I sit back and enjoy every show.

The respect that most of the alumni have for todays members isn't shown as openly as it probably should be but it's there. As the old saying goes:

    "It comes from the heart."

You might see posts in hear from alumni who take punches, me included, at

The Powers in charge but don't take this a crack at todays members because it's

not. It's just that when you have passion for something you don't like to see it

    ruined.

Enjoy your summer and have a great time competing. :whip:

    I with you unc...

I've said that numerous times on here and someone comes on and says the only reason that I want to hear music that I recognize is that I don't understand what

the corps are trying to do...who the heck does??? :(

I figure that I'm paying to be entertained, so come on drum corps entertain me

and start playing for and to the people that are paying to see these corps..ME

not the judges. -_- I loved the shows that 27th, Bridgemen, Velvet Knights

did because they ENTERTAINED everyone in the stands and the judges.

Every corp has the capability to play music that people recognize after all if we don't show up to the shows who are The Powers going to try to get more money from...THE DRUM CORPS THEMSELVES??? Not very likely. <**>

    :whip:

  7. I didn't care where we placed, 7th(?), I think, that was the best crowd of a finals

that I was ever a part of. If anybody knows the final scores from the '77 U.S. Open would they please post them. We were never told the final scores.

But that doesn't surprize me, nobody was talking to our corps director at that point of our tour. <_<

  8. Welcome Oldargonne, glad to see you on the air waves. Probably most of the

Old Schoolers remember your corps but I really enjoyed you guys whenever I had

    a chance to watch.

Baribrian, Thinking back to '77 U. S. Open Finals, I knew it rained like no tomorrow, but when we started our show I was consentrating on more important

things, like not falling on my rear end.

I wish we could have stayed but after what we had been through the week before

maybe it was best that we not stick around. We were burned out more mentally

than physically, but that's a long story I'll tell you some time, not on here!!!

My hat goes off to the crowd in Marion that night, some people left and most of the people on the non concert were invited over to the concert side by the p.a.

announcer if my memory serves me right. It was more like a giant party than a

drum corps show. It didn't matter what corps you were, to see them yell and

jump up and down really got everybody going.

What a night, too bad they don't see shows like that in Marion anymore!! :(
