  1. The Shriners International in Toronto was held at CNE Stadium until 1971,

then in 1972 moved to Ivor Wynne Stadium in Hamilton.

I'm not sure when the last year was but we sure loved that contest up here!!!!!

I wish we had DCI come up here every once in a while.!!!!!!!

Haven't seen anything in quite some time!!!!!!! :bleah:

  2. Hey Baribrian:

Didn't I see that some where before???

I checked on the U. S. Open and they do have a show it's on June 26(?) and the line up wouldn't fill a hat with money with what they would bring in. Not to blame the corps that are there but.......

    I'm not blaming anyone!

It's too bad that it's come to this!!!!!!!

  3. I'm glad to see the Dutch Boy is no different than everyone else when it comes to

respect of former members. Let me tell you what happened to me last February.

I hadn't seen or heard much of my former and cherished drum corps in a while

so I found out where they were rehearsing and went over. Well I walked in and I

was hugged by one of the women who I knew from my bowling league, she has two kids in the corps. One of the kids saw this and asked her who I was. She said that I was an original Dutch Boy Cadets from the late 60's. The guy just stood there and said "They had drum corps back then?"

My legs buckled and you could have knocked me over with a feather. I looked at him and said "It wasn't that long ago." Then he had to go back inside with the

rest. I hung around and talked with the corps director and introduced myself

and asked him if he would mind if I hung around. He said "No stay as long as you want." That was it. I knew that I had been excepted and welcomed HOME. I've gone back to several practices and corps camps and the kids who are a lot like I was when I started can't get enough of the stories of the early years. I show them pictures and they laugh at the clothes and the hair styles.

It really makes me feel like I'm looking at myself all over again only from a different perspective, through the eyes of those kids. I know what their going through. Their getting eager to learn the drill and compete.

Although I find it kind of like a dejavu, the corps director was one of these kids

when I was aging out. I think back to a U. S. Open in '77. It had been raining and we were delayed. We came out to warm up and there was our feeder corps on the back stands yelling and screaming at the top of their lungs cheering us on.

If that doesn't get your juices flowing nothing will.

So I guess I've come full circle. Only this time I'm cheering them on.

GO GETTEM DUTCH BOY. From Old Dutch Boy :D ^OO^

  4. What the heck did you do while on the bus for those 10-12 hour bus rides.

Most of the time I was either sleeping or playing cards. Unfortunately, my skill at playing cards wasn't that great so my playing time lasted till I lost about ten bucks

    then I packed it in.

Sleeping was another great way to pass the time, you fall asleep in Ohio and end up in Nebraska or some other state.

There's not a whole lot you can do in a bus for such a long time.

What new and adventurous ideas do you have. -_-:bleah:

  5. With all that's been going on in DCI over the years, with the corporate partners and such, who can tell me what these corporate partners are doing for DCI and more importantly THE KIDS who march in the units.

Did DCI promise to advise all the corps to use company B's product because if the total sales for this year are this much, they will give DCI this much money. Or is it if the corps spend this much on instruments company A will be this for DCI.

I may be speaking through my hat but what did DCI do for all the corps that have folded over the past 20 years. Did they offer a break on DCI dues, if they pay

any, did they offer to send some help in the way of an accountant or someone to see

how they can save the corps, not to my knowledge.

It's just a shame that we have lost so many great and entertaining drum corps

simply because there was no help from DCI.

If someone from DCI reads this, could or would you please tell everyone what DCI did for the corps that have folded. Also does DCI have any programs in place for corps who find themselves starting to SINK. :bleah:

  6. Not to be a sh_t disturber but wouldn't they save even more time if they could find an easier way to get the pit on the field faster.

The corps waste more time getting the pit set up, then they would with a three minute concert.

Since there is no "live broadcast" anymore which I can see to a certain degree, if they would cut out all the short stories and just show two or three corps at a time then go to a pledge break for 15 minutes and we all donate like crazy then PBS or however is showing it would be happy to show it, I hope. I don't mind not see finals

live as long as we see all 12 corps and retreat.

    Just wondering!!!!!! :( :bleah:

  7. What's the most embarassing thing that ever to you on the field.

If not you, what's the funniest thing you've ever seen happen to someone else.

Mine was in 1977, we were almost late for a show and we were in a hurry, I had to ahhh, you know, tinkle and ran to the washroom and ran back into line.

It wasn't till we were trooping the stands that I saw some girls pointing at me and laughing, which is nothing special for me, we had done a rather good show and we were high fiving each other and my girlfriend came up to me and asked me what I was trying to pull. I didn't know what the heck she was talking about.

Apparently, after I had gone to the washroom, I forgot to zip up and did the whole show WITH MY FLY OPEN.

I was wondering why my pants felt a little bit different that night. After that the last thing I did before I left the warm up area was to check my zipper. w/Stp: :bleah:

  8. To psiguy:

Your comments are true in all regards. I've noticed that there are some "old schoolers" who react somewhat stronger to criticism than others.

I guess if everybody just took a deep breathe and realized that nothing on these forums is ever going change anything at DCI we'll all be that much more happier.

    :P :P :P

  9. I agree with all of the above messages. I wasn't saying all of todays kids are like that because some of the oldies raised some of these kids. Some good, some bad.

My point was this, just because someone who is older and has gone through many years of drum corps many years ago don't cut them down because you don't agree with them. Think about what they are saying and if you can take something from it great. Most of the people in these forums are here because we loved the activity although some of us, me included, find some of the changes a bit to drastic.

We all like to share our experiences in drum corps, read them, laugh and cry about them, learn from them, as I have learned from a lot of you. :D :D :D

  10. It seems to me that todays members don't really appreciate the so called "Old Schoolers" Just by reading through these threads when a old schooler voices their opinion some KID comes and tries to knock him down. Now I'm not going to go off on a tangent but some of us "OLD TIMERS" haven't been around drum corps for a while and some of our ideas may be not to your standards. Just let me say one thing "If it wasn't for us OLD TIMERS you young people wouldn't have a pot to spit into" So lets just have some consideration on here, please. After all, we're here for the enjoyment and betterment of DRUM & BUGLE CORPS, right?????? :( :bleah: :)
