  1. For all intents and purposes, it's a 27-way tie right now. Let's wait 'til June.

    Garry in Vegas

Hey, Garry in Vegas.....dude, don't pee on our charcoal bud, we're just having a little fun here.

Nobody is taking these so called predictions seriously...are they ??!:smile:

(Disclaimer: I have never called anyone dude before.)

  2. Does anyone remember that Gene Rayburn from Match Game hosted the telecast with his wife from 1976-1978?

Ya...I'm still trying to forget that fiasco !!

Gene's wife coulding pronounce Etobicoke right for the Oakland Crusaders in 1976 !!!

THe K in Etobicoke is silent...Etobicoe Oakland Crusaders !!

  3. Because DCI did not want to let go of control of the shows. It's that simple. Really. With them it's always been about control.

DCI didn't make enough money from the broadcasts.

PBS didn't make enough money from the broadcasts.

PBS wanted to change the format of the shows to increase revenue because they claimed that people didn't support the shows with their donations - remember, this was a once a year show of a specific niche - stands to reason they may have been right about that.

My thesis is that with all the other broadcasts that are and continue to make money through public support they could stand to donate that air time as a public service, because they are a Public Broadcast Corporation, #### them.

Just the facts except the last editorial sentence.

    Respectfully,

    Puppet

So if DCI and PBS didn't make enough money, it goes to show that not enough people donated to the Finals showing to make it worth their while...right ?

When I saw my first finals in 1975, I was 15 and I wasn't working and money was tight in my parnets house so I couldn't ask my parents for it.

As for PBS donating the air time..I don't think that's going to happen anytime soon.

  4. Dude, I don't know how old you are but the phrase: "Me thinks he doth protest too much." comes to mind. I don't know of any of my corps' alumni who don't support both the Public Radio and Television stations in our respective cities. I was brought up (yes, even as a New York City teenager in the sixties) to understand that the only way to to get true and fair reporting of the world's news or shows like Nova, why would I or people like me who perhaps couldn't get to the finals not support the only venue that would broadcast the show.

Sorry, your statements are absurd. I wouldn't - I'm seeing you admit that. But I couldn't not.

Oh, so thanks for taking that away from me. I appreciate it. No, really mean it - your mirror must be broken.

If everyone you say supported the DCI Finals than WHY did PBS stop broadcasting them ?

I'm not looking for an argument.

  5. I feel the main reason PBS doesn't show the DCI Finals anymore is very simple...DRUM CORPS people didn't sponsor the stations they were watching.

We just wanted to see our great drum corps and the heck with the stations. I'm just as guilty of this any a lot of people.

If we would have supported PBS telecast back then, they would have no problem showing the full finals today.

Sorry folks, look in the mirror, we are the reason PBS don't show finals anymore....:thumbup:

  6. My choice of encore by corps would be:

Blue Devils - Chase the Clouds (1976) or "WHEN a MAN lOVES A WOMAN" from 1992 !!

Cavaliers - something from the James Bond show

Phantom Regiment - Clare du Lune

Santa Clara Vanguard - Bottle Dance pick your favorite version

Troopers - Battle Hymn of the Republic

Carolina Crown - Nights is White Satin

The Cadets - 2004 TOC version of Flight of the Bumble Bee

  7. As much as we all don't like doing parades, they are a valuable and easy way to make money for the organization, especially the 3 or 4 on the 4th of July.

You do your 10 minute show and you're done. You do a 3 mile parade on a hot humid day and your done in more ways than one.

Parades are also a valuable way of recruiting new members and are a neccessary part of any drum corps or marching band.

So suck it up and do them.

  8. ...and after they were done, CHEF, told them to F_CK OFF !!!!

to which they all replied "YES CHEF !!!!"

What a goof ball. Gordon Ramsay would have a lot more respect from me, if he had more respect for the people he is trying to......HELP ? Not that he wants my respect or anything.

Ever watch Ramsey's Kitchen Nightmares? You'd have a lot more respect for him if you did. He goes to failing restaurants and not only turns the restaurant around, but turns peoples' lives around. It's a great show.

Ya, I watch that show as well. Still doesn't change my opinion of the guy.

If he dumped the swearing that might change my opinion of him. I had a boss who swore at everyone and he got what was coming to him. A guy took him outside and beat the crap out of him.

He's has changed his way of dealing with the staff.

The guy who beat him up.....is now HIS boss.

  9. I just want to wish everyone on DCP a very MERRY "OLD FASHIONED STYLE" Christmas !!!!

Think back to when you were just a kid of about 9 or 10 and you came running down the stairs to see the one thing you really wanted and your heart started beating a mile a minute !!!

Memories are in our minds for a reason, to be remembered forever. No matter how people from other countries try to change todays traditions, CHRISTMAS will always be CHRISTMAS.

So from my family to yours, MERRY CHRISTMAS and A HAPPY NEW YEAR !!!!:worthy::worthy:

PS - I live in Yellowknife in the Northwest Territories in Canada and from my front door, I call see a heck of a lot more activity at the NORTH POLE this past week !!!!

(Have you been a good boy or girl) :tic:

  10. the topic title DOES say open class corps going to Indy...especially west coast corps...so any and all going can represent. besides...Canadian corps wouldn't understand - what's metric for West?
For a rough estimate, double it and add 30.

    Garry in Vegas

Actually, you take ten lemons, squeeze all the juice out of them, at sugar and pour it in a glass...there you go

    lemonade for 1 !!!

Seriously, if you take an atlas, open it to the page that Canada is on, hold it straight up, turn it 180 degrees there you go....Canada is on the west coast !!:thumbup:
