Happy DCA week drum corps fans!
Much love and we'll see you in Annapolis, MD.
Joey
You and the Statesmen were awesome this past weekend. Sorry to see this all end. Really great to see you Saturday night back at the hotel. The best to you!!

I hear THE Call of the Bull. That and the heavily sequined drum major can only mean it's time for our last alumni corps of the day, the Hawthorne Caballeros Alumni from Hawthorne, New Jersey. Their 2013 program consists of:
Portrait of a Dying Matador/Captain From Castile
Copacabana
Jazzmerelda
The Prayer/Don't Cry For Me Argentina
Cha cha Cha Flamenco
Cabs Signature
That would be Frank Ponzo up in the stands with the Competing Corp members watching and cheering us on! Still get chills from hearing both!!!

I think a good start would be to ask folks involved in the corps that attended the last few years that aren't coming this year.
Jumping in here late on this. SineWave 2010 was awesome for us who participated. For us it wasn't so much the $'s. For one it was some personal issues for those of us who wanted to keep going that kept us from continuing; me unfortunately being one of them. That and also a general lack of interest here in the Chicago area in doing this, period. Chicago, a hub for Corps enthusiasts and no one interested? Unbelievable me thinks, but unfortunately true. And a real shame because we had one of the best in front of us in Dr. Mark Ponzo from Northern Illinois University coaching us like I've never been coached before. I for one want to get back into this venue, hoping sometime soon that there will be individuals from around here interested in doing this!!

so do cabs have to get permission when they play "Don't Cry For Me Argentina"?
Good question!!! "Taking Care of Business" has taken me away for awhile. Easter and Passover greetings to all of you out there in "Whoville"!!! Looking forward to playing that with the Corps in 2013!!!

Merry Christmas to all!
I resemble that statement!! Merry Christmas to all!!!
-
Not for nothing, but when one works in a lapel factory, does one ever wonder who makes the rest of the jacket and why? :blink:/>/>
No wonder Vince is the guy who doles out the Caballeros' unis for the Corps!!! "The Rest of the Story" - "Good Day"!!! - Paul Harvey!!!
PS: Happy Thanksgiving to all of you out there in "Whoville"!!!!
-
Hey Moonshine, did anyone give you something "from me"?
Yup, but it wan't a "smoochie"!!!! And our particular "victim" also is responsible for doling out the Corps uni's when he's not either practicing or performing.
-
I just looked and yes, he is next to Cap'n John (he's on John's right. Left of John if looking at them).
As far as I know, it was Muchachos, Cabs and then the Alumni. I'll send him a message and see for sure.
He was there. Very scary looking even today, especially in the pool with the goggles & swim cap on doing laps!!!!!!
-
We'll be heading north in a little while so I might not be posting as often over the weekend....
If anyone else is heading to Plymouth, safe travels and we'll see ya there!
I WILL BE THERE!!!! LOUDEST CONTRA IN THE LINE!!!!!!

Seriously?? No one has a Guess on this Drum Corps Icon???
Isn't he in the Hall Of Fame?
I had a few minutes so I thought I'd jump in. Thanks for all of the "shoutouts."
"No one has a Guess on this Drum Corps Icon"??? Icon - Are you referring to his infamous tatoo?
-
And that's it for the 2012 Alumni Spectacular! We'll be back this evening for the last drum corps event of the 2012 North American drum corps season.
Thanks for the coverage!!!

Frank Ponzo just played the Call to the Bull from the stands. Crowd goes wild as the cadence begins and Hawthorne Alumni take the field.
Wish I was there this year, but gotta take care of the home front first. BLOW THEM AWAY CABALLEROS!!!!!!!!!!!!!
-
get well!
X10. And a quick time out to wish "Captain" John Smith a very Happy Birthday!!!!
-
Hey St Lucy....you got some splaining to do !!!!!
Is that really HIM???!!!!! Ran into his crew and some garbage cans in DC back in 1966!!!
-
If this is the person I think it is, he has performed with a competition corps and an alumni corps.
Sometimes at the same show.
Could this possibly be one of those "White Rats"???
-
All that said and out of the way..
A young Dr. Frankensteen??????
-
I doubt it - he said all but one letter appears in the actual corps' name...
Possibly one of these, from a list that Bob Crawford generated?

Another amazing rehearsal yesterday under the direction of Dr. Mark Ponzo. SineWave is definitely going to be much better come DCA's this summer.
Back at it again tomorrow AM. Really looking forward to it!!!!

stage hands use a tape with the same name
Duct? Scotch? Drywall? Electric? Masking? Mungo dunno..........
-
so #1 on left is definitely Donnie Allen - no kewpie for being right Don...
clues for number 2 although none should be required...
This man was once MY horn instructor (Really!)
Mine too for awhile, working on "Dr. Love Presents........" in 2005 with the Royal Airs' brass ensemble that year at DCA in Scranton.

Unusual name indeed... for unusual men... I wonder if the good doctor realizes the extra baggage that comes with the name? This includes such things as a strong preoccupation with playing the "Bull Call"... and a strong affinity to lawn chairs...
Frank - Passed along your comments as requested. And nope - no affinity to lawn chairs, a preoccupation with playing the "Bull Call" or stuff like that, just an awesome presence in the world of brass.
-
Sound great guys! The Dilorenzo is a brutal piece to perform, but great for the listener. It should be a wonderful performance.
That's why rehearsals are structured in the way that they are, so when September rolls around we'll be ready!

I don't believe so, but you never know... I'll ask tomorrow when I see him & pass along the L.I. Ponzo's "regards". And don't forget to throw in the white towel that goes with Frank's lawn chair!
Minicorps RIP?

Initially had difficulties in deciding what direction we in SineWave were going to take. We got over that hump and really had it going with Dr. Ponzo on board. Then family issues got in the way and that was it. Hopefully we will be back in some fashion in the future. This is what we had going before we stopped:
