  1. I have never had any interaction with Al, but we were contemporaries, marching about the same time. The word of his work in the field are legendary. I work at a CBS affiliate, and Letterman is on my shift, so I hear Al play all the time.

I also have never had any contact with Moe, but again, we are contemporaries, both having photographed Drum Corps, albeit, Moe did it a LOT longer than I did.

Here is a thought: Both of them to the HOF !

Of course! both Moe and Al are deserving.

vote now...vote early. vote often..... (whats that? we don't get to vote? C'mon DCI get these two individuals where they belong.

  2. Wow are you off-base... :lookaround:

I'm sure the thousands of Non-YEA Drum Corps kids that have been influenced by Al would disagree with you. He is an inspiration to anyone marching today both as a teacher and performer. He gives freely of his time and NEVER fails to give the Drum Corps Activity full credit for his success.

Sorry your problems with YEA have blinded you to the HOF qualifications of Al Chez.

(BTW: If you check out the senior corps forum you will find many posts from Al calling for the induction of Moe Knox.)

Just because a person goes out and makes a very lucrative life for themself from being a former member in a Drum & Bugle Corps & because of their talents just does not deseve to be in the Hall Of Fame!

    1. What has this person done to further the Drum Corps Activity?

    2. Has this person done anything to further The DCI Activity itself?

What Al Chez has given to the Cadets, the Crossmen, YEA!, marching band programs across the country, clinics, college bands, and the Letterman show all come from his roots in NJ drum corps and primarily the Garfield Cadets. Drum Corps International has been seen by many people because of Al Chez.

Then I think Al should be nominated to the YEA Hall Of Fame, not the DCI Hall OF Fame.

To me he has not proven himself in the DCI Arena it self to be called into The DCI Hall Of Fame. There are and have been hundreds in this activity who have given of thier talents just like Al, they work with bands, they run music education clincs,

they even work with College bands yet no one ever calls for them to be into the DCI Hall Of Fame.

To me the person who deserves to be in the DCI Hall Of Fame, DCA Hall Of Fame, The Drum Corps Hall Of Fame itself is Moe Knox former photographer for Drum Corps since the early 1950's till the mid 1980's. Yet as an elder statesmen for the activity people just see Moe as an old man who they could not be bothered with. The Drum Corps Activity itself has never given Moe his due Accolades. This to me is so very shameful of the activity!

  3. I think the first thing they need to do is find a new arranger. I find (Drew Shanefield?)'s style and scoring immature and basic. His ideas tend not to flow well and transitions from theme to theme are not rough at best. Bring back Chuck Naffier to return to the top 12!

Totally agree! IMO the problem was not the source material but the way it was interpreted by the arranger. He “got” “Radar Love” but completely missed the feel of “Paradise”. When I first heard that Bones was playing “Classical Gas” I was happy with the selection. A drum corps classic…. how could it go wrong.? . Cut and paste the piece and spread it over 11.5 minutes. Ugh.

    Bring back Naffier!!!!!

  4. Not really sure where this is going but....

This sounds strangly familiar.......Tuthill did the same thing to a corps from Edison NJ back in 1977. Corps never recovered and folded soon after he took over.

Okay, I'm just going to say this one time because I know a lot of you guys love the guy....

Tuthill became the director of the Argonauts in 83.

    Skyriders had let him go.

Bridgemen had let him go (and threw their drumsticks at  him).

George wanted to change us into a marching band.

We didn't march in 86 to "reform".

87 was a boring show but we managed to stay in the 60's in scores.  I later found out that George only marched as a corps in 87 to make money to start his marching band.

88 was my age out year.  George marched a BAND.  I marched with Marauders.

    Personally, I hated the guy.

    Your thoughts?  (Change my opinion).
