  1. Don't worry the sights we set are well in goal, if we don't meet them in prelims, then (god willing we have another chance) we will be all the more motivated to meet them in finals. Which we will do.

the corps will be fine. you will do well. i've seen video's of cru and the only weakness is the drumline and it's not bad. you guys just strap it on and give em hell. you set the bar high my friend and you will lnad where you should be.......hopefully 7th. i think the corps can do it. your home and it's your field with your crowd. just please don't choke like those bills teams in those 4 superbowls. good luck. i'll be watching from florida.

  2. Hey Dave:

Behave now, LOL! If you have read his posts he flip flops back and forth. Several posts he rips Hawthorne saying we deserved fifth at Finals in 1972 ,then he says he has no problem with Hawthorne and even drank with us in Chicago. Yeah, probably to gloat. All I can say is I have a DCA 1972 patch that I still wear today and I have a video copy of our performance that night at Finals. We can listen to all who cried they were cheated by timing judges and the sort and that we were not really good in 73 and 74 because it was just everybody else sucked worse than us. Sour grapes is all it is. We who were there know how hard we worked in Chicago and it paid off. Everyone was enjoying seeing Hawthorne while we were down but we did not give up. I highly respected the 1971 and 1972 Skyliners because they were indeed a very good corps but we were hungrier at the end of the season in 1972.

i'm not flip flopping. i didn' say you deserved 5th at dca. i said i didn't think you won. i think sky won. i was with cru for years and had a good time with the cabs all the time. i never ever commented on '73 or '74. i thonk you guys have sour grapes about chicago. we won that night and you guys protested the show to the american legion and i remember bruni assuring us that they wouldn't take the title from us. all i know is after that the whole season changed for all the top corps. it's all history now but it's just something that is hard for some corps to forget. just don't understand how a corps could improve 6 points in 6 days.........but somehow the score says you did.....so be it

  3. You know, it’s been very interesting going through this season by getting info from friends and the internet. I had to take most of this season off due to back surgery. I thought I would be ready to go by the middle of June, and made a valiant effort, but just couldn’t make it. I missed most of the Cabs Alumni rehearsals and had to pull out of a judging gig. I know that this is going out on the limb because there have been many, many interesting DCA’s, but this one has all the ingredients to be something special. I really haven’t seen many corps this year, really none since Bayonne, so my opinion is based on what I read in the forums and some opinions from some creditable friends, so take it for what’s its worth.

There are many un-knowns this year. How will the corps from the West Coast do? How will the corps from Texas and the rest of DCA South do? What about the Mid-West? From what I understand, there is a GREAT battle just to make finals this year. I wonder what score it’s going to take this year to make finals. Will it be a record breaking score to get in?

You guys that are going to witness this in person are lucky. To the performers, you may be part of a DCA Championship that may never be forgotten. I find it very interesting reading the thread about Cru and Kilties. I know that many of you are former members or fans and this is the way you promote your choice. It’s fun to read.

There are corps that have many years of history behind them, and then you have corps that are just starting out looking to get in. There are corps that have been around for a short time that have proven their talents and looking to move up. The Champion is looking to 3pete.

WOW, it’s going to be terrific and I wish I could be there. My sincere best wishes to all the corps this weekend. It’s going to be tough to see this season come to the end. Did it go by faster than usual, or is it just me?

Have a GREAT TIME everyone, and be SAFE

you hit the nail on the head. i'm raising hell with some of these people and having fun doing it. the fact is it really dosen't matter to me. i would like to see cru make it cause i marched with them years ago but it really dosen't matter. i wish every one could make it. i just love to pull every ones chain

  4. having grown up in rachacha and living there for 35 yars all i can say is you can't predict the weather there. i could be warm and sunny one minute and having a downpour the next. now in all the dca's i marched in there only one had bad rain....1975. last year it was a tropical storm that came from the south. good luck with that.

  5. I'm still waiting for an answer to my question of who are the "you guys" that you threw at me earlier.

Believe it or not....I don't really care who wins, who makes finals, whatever. It won't change my life at all. It's no biggie...I just like doing projections with actual numbers instead of opinions or reasons like I marched with them in the 70s so they'll be in or my best friend marches there so they'll make finals and, of course the old, it's in their home town so they'll make finals even though they didn't last year when it was in their home town.:doh::doh:

Although, all the years DCA was in Rochester...Cru has missed finals once. So...whatever

    well ...............i just don't know. i'm causing mischif. but i'm still a homer. :P

  6. All this animosity. My Corps is better...no my corps is better....blah blah. All three Corps I assure you are working really hard to but themselves in finals on Sunday. The Corps are so close in score that any of them could get in.

Just because one corps has been judge more times then the other doesn't mean they stand a better shot at getting in. That is probably the most ridiculous logic I have heard in a long time. The corps that puts on the cleanest, loudest, best product on the field saturday is the one that will get in.

I wish MCL, Cru and all the other corps for that matter the best of luck Saturday. There is going to be one hell of a battle Saturday night.

    GAME ON B)

well it's my opinion and guess what.........it's america and i can have an opinion. also excuse me for being a homer. but in any case.........good luck to the kilt's and mcl.

  7. This is my 5th year going to DCA finals as a corps member. I joined mid-season after not marching since 2004. Never in those 5 years have I been to such a great last camp. The corps worked hard and most importantly worked together to take us to a level above anything this corps has ever done. The staff has grown and matured beyond anything I've ever seen in CV. I'm so proud to be a CorpsVet right now.

This is my 4th year in the pit and I've never been in a front ensemble this musical. A lot of that is due to some great writing in the pit book, but a lot of it is the talent of the players and a lot of it is the quality of instruction. This weekend, we stayed as focused as a laser beam and really upped the musicallity and the performance of our book.

Not having a show this weekend gave us a great advantage. There's no way we could have had the great rehearsal we did with such a huge distraction. I know those shows were important to the corps that marched them to get that one last score, but we gained so much from the work we did. Look out DCA, here we come!

To my friends in the Renegades - I'm so glad we get to go on next to you. One of the reasons I quit marching after 2004 was that I never got to see some of my favorite corps perform. I'll be standing at the goal line with my pit equipment cheering for you guys. I know your show is going to get me psyched to play the best show I have in me. Good luck and kick butt!

To the fans in the stands - you're going to see a corps that has a whole bunch of fun playing their show. Our number one job is to entertain you and I think this corps does that as good if not better than anybody. I love playing for you guys. Give me a wave and a shout out when we're setting up. I love hearing from our fans.

I can't wait to get to Rochester!

looks as though your corps will do will at dca.........good luck and be safe

  8. So the fact that Cru was seen by the judges many more times in 2006 than were the Kilties, then Cru should have beaten them both times they met right?

    Just sayin

look that's just the way it is. if you think the kilts are better then put it on the field. cru will beat kilts. put your money on it. and just like you i'm biased. i'm a cru alum. you guy's ain't coming to their home town after been judged more times with a great show and beat them. let's see what labor day brings...........i'm just sayin

  9. Actually DCA used to draw for prelims placement but the problem was it made things VERY difficult from a judging point of view. How can you compare say the 2 front runners if one goes on 10 corps after the first? REALLY hard to make a good comparison in your caption by having to remember the other corps from over 2 hours earlier!

So the idea here was to have similar level corps appear in relative proximity to each other to give a more accurate scoring of their performance.

At present rules I'm not sure if the entire August scoring is averaged or just the last 2 shows...certainly if the full month was used then the ordering would be proper to the outcome of the season. (at least for the east coast corps who have seen each other all year) If the last week or last 2 weeks are used then for example Empire goes on after Cabs although having never beat them this season. I think Brigs might go on after Bush as well with Brigs having never beat Bush this season either.

Does anyone know what the current rules are?

this is bs. it's how dca slots corps. they used to draw for prelims. it dosen't make it difficult. if a corps is that good then it dosen't matter what order they go on. please give me a break.

  10. I have to say that beale st. (at least, the one in the city. the one in penfield...not so much) has the greatest ribs of them all. Not only that, but their blackened catfish is absolutely perfect. Ind if you want ambiance, this is genuine New Orleans blues.

there all very good. it depends on what you like. i lived there from birth till i was 35 so i'm biased as to what i like. i like the biker thing but thats not for everyone but............it's all good eats...........ask alton brown :)

  11. Ihave been to both on several occassions and find Sticky lips to be more authentic to the memphis rib places than dinosaur....I'm not saying that dinosaur isn't good but Sticky Lips not only has the ribs and such but has better side dishes IMO B)

Beale St is really good too!!

gary i've been to both and i think dino is much better. both are good. dino has a better ambiance.......if you like bikers atmosphere

  12. Actually I was going to eat at Dino'. BBQ last year,

but I had just walked passed the building looking at the dam

and the street peoples outhouse was directly behind it.

I got grossed out when I got a good whiff of it.~gags~and left.

But I am intrigued enough to try the ribs this year.

I just won't wander down the street behind it. LOL Heads up!

my son has worked there for 7 years. i go there when ever i go to rochester. dino started in syracuse . they also opened up one in harlem last year. best ribs i ever had. the rochester location is the old subway station.

  13. Judging by the latest scores..I see a three way shoot-out btw Kilts, Cru. and MCL. But, watch out for a spoiler in the A class div. B)

If all three corps are evenly matched then the X- factor will kick in and Cru will be in finals.

X- Factor = DCA Politics and the fact that (due to the nature of the beast) good ol' buddy ties exist between certain judges and certain corps staff and management. There, I said it! :sshh: My Bad.... but PC. :P

As always if a corps wants to be in the top 10 they must be willing to rehearse smart and put the extra time on the practice field in order to perform like a finalist corps .

Good luck all!! Just have Fun and enjoy the weekend!

where is this mcl stuff coming from. they haven't been in very many shows and haven't bronken 80 yet. i'm baffeled.

  14. DCI/DCA cold war? Just when was this...??? I must have been sleeping through it... How many know that after at least one DCI championships Don Pesceone vacationed at Vince Bruni's camp in the thousand islands... (and no one was supposed to know where he was)

There has always been quiet, all be it private, dialogue...

Reminder: Bill Howard one of the founders of DCI was a former Rochester Crusader... and talked often with Vince.

The East coast corps were filled with management and staffs with DCA experience... and how many DCI people talked often with Mickey Petrone? MANY! and I'm willing to bet this still is commonplace... DCA VP Larry Herschman has always been associated with DCA, but has VERY strong DCI ties...

The divergent directions of both organization were served by recognizing that each was best left to do its own thing, but the common ground was and is too strong to ignore... Whether it's DCI's Ed Dempsey bleeding Buccaneer Blue or Tom Peashey wearing Cascade green... it's all drum corps in the end.

well said tom. leave it to you to set the record straight. thanks buddy

  15. Hey the Convention was in Boston...We did win an Orange flag.....The American Legion Parade the next day wasn't much fun though...Too many hills in Boston LOL

i know the convention was in boston. i was there. i said i wasn't sure about the orange flag...... but in all the legion nationals that i was in ..........5 to be exact that one did't have many legionairs at the show. they were always there in force but for some reason not ay boston. there was no inspection , no ready line , no prelims. it was just a big regional dca show. the only difference was i guess you got a flg and there was the grand parade..........yes to many hills.

  16. Where in the world in my post did you get the idea that I thought Rochester should have been humiliated ? I was talking about my feelings at the time. We lost the Nationals because 1) You were better that day, and 2) We left our best show on the field the night before in Racine. As far as Sky is concerned, Go back to Post number 11 in this thread. Steve sums it up much better than I could. And by the way, I thanked Alan and all of you for providing the spark to propel us to the DCA crown during one of your winter practices in early 73. I was a student at Buffalo State at the time and I used to go to your rehersals. We laughed about it than. I've had, and have alot of friends in the Crusaders (and the Kingsmen) over the years. You obviously were not one of them.

it's a touchy subject with a lot of the 72 crusaders. i guess i misunderstood what you were saying. sorry. as far as alan is concerned thats another story. as far as being your friend i don't know your name so i don't kinow who you are. that's the trouble with these posts. my name is what you see.

  17.

Hey Don..did they really have an inspection in '75? I was there for both Prelims and Finals but I don't remember them having an inspection line...I'm trying to remember where they would have done that, considering it was raining out..

(of course, until the Cabs came out for Prelims..then of course it rained again after they were done)

Did they have that inside the South High building across the street?..maybe I'm getting too feeble to remember..I only lived 3 blocks from the Prelim site there. walked over for the show..kinda cool that way.

    Pat

it was outsde but i don't remeber where. i do remember having painted all the bass drums trim in black around 5:00am and the rain making it run. i personally got a tick for the paint on my uniform. in every inspection i was ever in be it state or nationals i ALWAYS got a tick for something. in '69 it was for a hair touching my collar........omg

  18. Wonder when was the last AL contest with AL judges and rules. Not sure how judging was handled in 1978. Have a hazy memory of one of the drum judges (Joe Morella?) riding to the show on one of our buses. If that's correct, then he only judged the Senior portion as we arrived after the Junior show had started. (But I'm drawing a total blank on the time between riding to the show and sart of our performance. ) And our mid 70s score was close to what we had been getting in DCA contests.

PS - Know we got a flag in '78 and it was in the Honor Guard the next week. :)

Edit: Other night I found the write up for the 1978 show from the Legion Magazine. Good news was the appeared to be well attended (yeah - SuperDome has A/C). Bad news was the magazine switched the captions on pictures of the winners.

i know that 72 & 75 were a.l judges & rules right down to inspection & ready line.
