  1. I just might know a bit about DCA... :-) let me play with this some...

    1. Curt Hawkins...is he the only soloist winner to win it for 2 different corps?

    how about Richie Price????

    2. Anyone know who marched in the most DCA Finals as a performer (not drum major, or American Section..must be horn, drum or guard)..My bet is on Mike Ryan of the Cabs who marched in 30 straight DCA finals from 1975-2004.

Almost certainly Tom Meek... he did his first DCA in 1967 with Crusaders and is still doing DCA with Brigadiers now... Just how many championship performances????? close to 40... think he took one season off, but maybe not...

Interestingly, Cru did not join till 1967 (someone said 66)... I did my first championship in '66 with Brigs after marching the '66 season with Cru - Cru's season was over and Brigs asked me to fill the hole of my late friend George Cowburn who had left for Vietnam... I performed in 13 championships... was on Crusader's staff for 5 championships (one as M&M staff and 4 as corps director)... was a judge or chief judge at 9 championships... was on the championship show staff 12 times... and was an honored guest last year as a hall of fame inductee... I missed the first championship and one in the 90's the year that Brigs and Empire tied... but I was there in heart as my daughter was with Brigs and my son in law was with Empire and they met on the 50 yard line at retreat and enjoyed their co-championships... and called me from the field so I could be a part... 40 out of 42 ain't too bad in one capacity or another...

    3. How many corps with less than 40 horns won DCA..Sunrisers come to mind..

Surely Bush must be added to the list....

    4. When was the last time an all female colorguard took the field in a DCA final...was it Cabs in the mid 80's?

lol beats me but I sure remember the first one... Les Diplomats - ok old timers... how many of you were in the gym in Saratoga NY when the guys decided if they wanted to be part of DCA and dress in the same room they would get an eyefull... and I have to say, those French girls were so cool and the guys in the other corps were so ... well... RUDE... The girls WON....

    5. Is there anyone out there who marched in all 3 of DCA's worst quagmires..the 1987 DCA prelims, the 1999 finals and the 2006 prelims? ( 2 of them were in Allentown )

considering the relatively narrow space of time involved... many I'm sure...

    6. Speaking of Best Soloist...has anyone ever won the award on a Bb horn?

    not Joey Pero... for sure

    7. Is the record finals attendance the 12,000 plus at Franklin Field in 1981?

Don is right... several years at Aquinas (Holleder) Stadium recorded huge paid audiences, but of course the cost of admission was very low... 1996 was 9600 which was the largest crowd of the "modern" era...

    8. How many DCA corps made open class finals in their first year of field competition...

I'll let you guys figure this one out...

    9. Statesmen are playing Rocky in their 2007 show. Has it been over 20 years since we heard Rocky in a DCA competition? Matadors come to mind..

Just watched a video of matadors doing rocky... never realized just how good they were...

    10. What active DCA open class corps has changed their uniform the most times since the 1965 DCA inaugural season

Whoever said Cru has to be right... we made a habit out of it... but I was partial to the '65 uni with the sequins and gestapo hats... Who remembers the Red Pajamas? They were awful...

This is fun... thanks for letting me play

Now let me play... here's a good DCA trivia... What judge played a MAJOR part in determining the champion one year even though his score did not count in the final tally... (not including chief judge penalties)?

actually tom cru did join dca in 1966. they just dodn't compete at the championships that year be cause it was so late in the year. they were members though.

  2. by the way for all of you who are to young to remember in 1966 a.l nationals in d.c. the crusaders got sportsmanship award from congress for our actions in a very tulmultuois night. we were the only corps not to protest losing the show and even gave the cabs a round of applause on the field. i believe we were the first to ever do that. you can chaulk up that attitude to the great doc mizma. always a gentlemen.....even in defeat.

  3. Can vouch for that in the late 70s. Week or so after we beat the Buccs for the first time in our history a bunch of us were standing around and noticed two Crusader DMs coming toward us. They just wanted to congratulate us and hope we continue to improve.

Yeah just two DMs.... named Allen Smyth and Dave Bruni(I think)....

Cru had a cymbal player named John Zona(sp?) who always took the time to talk to the group I hung with (and we were in HS/college at the time).

it was't dave bruni. zona was a trip.

  4. i don't know about this. i think you can arrange a song many different ways. in the 60's for instance the song " on the mall " was done by a number of different corps. the interstatesman, crusaders and i believe the appleknockers. all thre arrangements were vastly different. i think that it's not that hard to do. truman crawford arranged for many different corps and none of his music sounded the same. you just have to wonder about the creativity going on. joe genero also did a lot of arranging for different corps and even though he might have used stuff from other corps it sounded a lot different. his hurricane off the line in 1969 " queen of sheba march " was taken from a junior corps and it sounded completely different.

  5. Don, all good points ... I was shocked when I realized he was not a member... it's a little late now, but I think something should be done about it too...

Gary, I actually recognized Dutch in that picture... or at least I thought it was him... thanks for the confirmation...

tom if you know any of the cuurent management of cru maybe you could get in contac with them. colin and i talked about this before. it took colin 29 years after his retirement to get in and i think that was wrong to.

  6. Our maintenance activities have been completed for the DCP Forums ... adding a dedicated database server to our network - and with it, significantly more capacity.

All systems are migrated and working fine. We'll be monitoring closely over the next couple of days to ensure there are no residual problems.

    Thank you for your patience.

    -john

is there a reason your website is down so fequently? it was offline almost the entire weekend. it's very sporatic.

  7. doc was a great man in and out of drum corps. he was responcible for the crusaders rise to fame period. he put them on the map. he will be missed by all of us whose lives he touched.

my question is why is this man not in the drum corps hall of fame? why have the crusaders not nominated him? do they not care about their past and traditions? this wrong should be made right. last year when colin campbell was inducted he said that in talking to people " they " didn't even know who doc was. how does this happen? not to put anyone down but there are lesser men that are inducted then him. he retired from the crusaders 40 years ago this september and i think that some one from cru should nominate him. please lets right this wrong

  8. Lets see..........haven't marched in 27yrs,....... don't care who wins,....... obviously very skeptical about the world in general,(maybe deservedly),....conspiracies everywhere......judges are all on the take..........life is 'fixed'.

Why are you here? If nothing is important except life/death (Iraq etc) why visit a drum corps forum?

    Gord Moffatt

how long it's been since i marched dosen't matter. it's true i don't care. i'm not skeptical about the world. i don't beleive in conspiracies. i never said juges are on the take........this is not about money. it's about who knows who and who's friends with who. i never said life is fixed. life and death are VERY important. and why i visit a drum corps forum is quite frankly none of your business. i hope i answered all of your questions. by the way i'l go anywhere i want since this is a free country. i have my opinions and you have yours.

  9. I have never once thought a corps didn't deserve to win. If they won, it's quite simple, they had the product to do it. It's not a question whether favouritism or bad judging placed their favourite corps into first place.

that's nieve. it has happened all throuout drum corps history but we all have opinions. in 1977 we were going to carlisle pa. the week before the show our drum instructor knew the judge that was going to be on the field that night. they drove to a dci show together during the week and talked about the show we would be in that weekend. that weekend in carlisle that judge put our drumline in 1st place. it was the only time that happened all year. we were good but not that good. so don't tell me that stuff dosen't happen. there is corruption all throuhout our society. look at politics, corporate business even the medical field. it's there. it's human nature. that's why the courts are full and we have wars. drum corps is a game but it still has it's form of corruption. believe it or not. like i said before i really could care less as i haven't marched in 27 years. my world dosen't hinge on a drum corps contest. these are just observations on my part . have a great summer. peace to you all

  10. you may very well be right but this is hawthorne and if you've been around long enough you know that this is one corps that can pull it off even if they don't deserve it. e.g dca 1972. a. l. nationals 1966. must i go on??? :worthy:

i have no sour grapes. i'm not involved with drum corps and haven't been for 27 years . i really don't care. i'm just a casual observer. call it what you like. all i did was state the facts. why do all of you jump on someone when they have an opinion that differs from yours. anyway it's drum corps. it's not like the war in iraq that it matters. nomatter who wins it means nothing in the scheme of world events. no one lives or dies because of it. i have my opinions on this meaningless game and you can't take them away. and i resent that every time some one disagrees with someone it's sour grapes. like i said i don't care if the cabs win the next 50 titles. it's a game. peace

  11. Objects in the Bucs rearview mirror seem closer than they are! Anyone who witnessed the Grand Prix will tell you that. .3 down..come on now!!

you may very well be right but this is hawthorne and if you've been around long enough you know that this is one corps that can pull it off even if they don't deserve it. e.g dca 1972. a. l. nationals 1966. must i go on??? :worthy:

  13. Joe C. is definitely with Florida Brass... I'm fairly certain that they are doing well... just google their website - it'll have information... I get emails from Roy often...

i did. there in lakeland fl. about 70 miles from me. i'll check them out.

  14. Don

why don't you check out Florida Brass??? Although it's more Brigadiers than Cru, you'll see a lot of familiar faces there and it's quality stuff... They have a web site and Roy Grant is a great guy (director)... I can't tell you how many guys are in that corps that I marched with... but it's a lot...

thst's a good idea. i think joe chizac has something to do with them. i'll check the web site. thanks tom

  15. Wow! I live 20 minutes from Northport and my step daughter lives there. I remember the Eagles, went up against them with Patriots I think!

kieth i guess we never crossed paths. i was involved in drum corps in rochester for many years. many people involved know me. if you ask around you might find out about me. even though i don't know you it's nice to know someone from the old town and cru lives nearby.

  16. Hi Don... sorry to hear about your health... I spent a lot of time in your area a few years back but no plans to be there any time soon... When you watch the NBC news (pretty sure it's the NBC affiliate) in Ft. Myers... check the credits and you'll see a "news director" named Briggs. That's Don and Mary Brigg's son. Don lives just above you in Northport and was director of the Verona Eagles back when. We spent a lot of time with them and are close to the family. Keep well..

Jim????? That's classic... still worrying about the beer...

i'll check that out tom. like i said a wealth of info. i also understand jeff mael lives in florida to. don't know where but he's down here.
