  1. Seems that way here, but my high school band had 18 trombones and 20 trumpets my senior year; fairly balanced. But that was long ago and far away in the land marching band paradise: Kentucky.
  2. I've heard from some great folks so far. This is a great learning opportuinty.
  3. We are looking for 3 more baritones and 1 contra to round out our hornline for the season. The book is challenging for contra and fairly exposed for baritione. If you like jazz, have the chops and want to play, then Manassas Park, VA is where you need to be spending your weekends. Our next rehearsal is April 26-27 at Manassas Park High School. Directions are provided on our website.
  4. At $35 for a half-day of instruction, this is a bargain that you can’t pass up! If you have always had that yearning to learn conducting and lead a music group as the drum major, this is the clinic for you! Summer band camp participants at James Madison pay $350 for instruction for sessions led by Jerry. You practically get him for a song! Pay attention to the second part: We are also holding drum major auditions on May 10th after the clinic. So, if you would like a chance to conduct a drum corps, this is your opportunity!
  5. Sayre, Of course, one sure way is if you were in one of the groups - say Shenandoah Sound... wink, wink.. nod, nod
  6. A great day was had by all at the Greek Independence Day parade in Baltimore! The drumline was really starting to groove and with most of brass section present we gave solid performance on Sunday. Come and be a part. Our next rehearsal is April 12th!
  7. Also, if you play low brass (baritone or contra) we are looking for you! We have a great jazz music book this year with some tough and fun parts for contra and great lead lines for baritone. Help us fill out the hornline this summer.
  8. Thank you. This is how we build the activity: Cooperation and sharing among groups.
  9. And just confirmed today for this weekend (thanks to Holly Marino) we will be performing in the Greek Independence parade in Baltimore on Sunday. So, show your appreciation for world democracy and greek independence by celebrating in Baltimore this weekend!
  10. Crowds were great for such a blustery day in Old Town Alexandria. With all the pipe bands in front of us, I think we were a welcome site for spectators. Great audience response throughout the parade. We should have some pictures this week to post.
  11. We will be providing the formal show announcement soon, but the teaser is that it opens and closes with Queen Latifah charts.
  12. Yes we are gearing up for our first performance of the season in the Alexandria St. Patrick's Day parade March 1st. For the first time in a while I am placing orders this week for more uniforms. We are growing, but we still need some low brass players. If you play contra and want a real challenge, come out and play our opener - no place to breathe - as if we allowed it anyway. Our next rehearsal is February 23rd. We'll be looking for you!
  13. Practice this Saturday 10-5 at Manassas Park. - Brass and Percussion only. Check our website for directions. Bring yourself, sticks or mouthpiece and $20 for fun day.
  14. At one time they stated that they would have difficulty ever getting to DCA finals because school starts in early August and many of the members have school band obligations and the under 18 crowd always have conflicts with school events - aka football in MS. If anyone saw them the first year they did exhibition in Orlando you would have thought they'd be fantastic by now, but alas the same type of scheduling conflicts that all of us face.
  15. Oh sure you all do breathing... but this is the kind of intensity you get when your brass staff are marines! Tension Release Video Come out and join Shenandoah Sound on January 26th and release some of your pent up tension!
  16. It's 2008 and time to get moving. So meet your physical fitness goals for the new year by joining a drum corps. We guarantee to get you off the couch on the weekend!
  17. Tomorrow, Sunday 1-6 at Manassas Park HS is your chance to be a part of something great.
  18. So you are asking yourself...why Shenandoah? The answer ladies and gentleman is simple...a quality program, quality instruction, quality rehearsal space, and quality people to be with. Shenandoah Sound has decided to embark on a journey toward greatness. The Corps Management has brought together a staff with the knowledge and experience to take the Sound to levels it has never reached. This year's program is titled "Sky's the Limit", and with good reason. The rehearsal facilities are new, more importantly, locked in for the year. The membership has already grown, and most everyone has returned after last year as an exibition corps. Why? Because they believe we can make it happen. We will make it happen, all that is missing is you! So if you are a high school student who wants to march a junior corps, but maybe doesn't have the thousands of dollars some corps cost, or the time, or want to spend the summer away from friends...come march Shenandoah. The dues are much, MUCH cheaper, and you have the ability to work off a large chunk of that minimal cost. You will get trained well, you will have fun, and you will be a part of a new journey for the corps. "So then what if I want to march *insert corps here* next year?" PLEASE DO!!!!! Go and experience junior corps, and have the absolute time of your life!!! When you age out, come back home to Shenandoah and share your knowledge and experiences to make us even better! Maybe you marched and aged out in the days of yesteryear, but want that rush of standing in the drum line , horn arc, or throwing that ensemble 6...come get back in touch with that feeling...that rush, that made you watch those drum corps videos over and over and over that are sitting in a box somewhere now. All the tools are in place. All you have to do is show up ready to work, and be a part of something special. There is no hype here. We can back up what we say. Come on out and have a great time with us. "If you build it, they will come"
  19. A full description of the day's events will be posted soon, but suffice it to say we had a very successful first day of the season with all sections working and learning. To borrow from a longstanding scout saying, our mantra for the season is "Fun with a purpose" as demonstrated by our first group activity together led by Jerry Philp (shown in the first picture). I didn't know Dick could move that fast! Stay tuned for more. A few pictures are provided below highlighting our day. More will soon be available on the website.
  20. This is the week. If you've been on the fence about drum corps, it's time to get off and get on the turf. Saturday 1-6 pm Manassas Park High School Be there!
  21. We have had booths at several band shows around VA this fall in addition to direct band contacts that have yielded the most interest I have ever seen in the corps. It used to be that we would set up somewhere and people would ask "Now what are you exactly?" Now we have folks coming up and saying, "I was thinking about marching with Shenandoah Sound this year." Totally different atmosphere. Other differences is that we have incredible rehearsal space and some really great instructors with more to be added soon. We marched in the Brunswick, MD Veterans Day parade Sunday and for the first time since I've been doing that parade we received several compliments from parade-goers on our walk back to the trailer. Lots of head bobbing with music and kids dancing. Everybody is back from our exhibition group this summer and we're looking to explode.
