  1. What BigW describes to me is almost exactly what SoundSport is, which is one of the reasons we have gone that route for now.
  2. We love the parades. Sure they are long, but where else are you going to play in front of thousands of appreciative audience members? We play fun crowd-friendly music and even dance with them. And bonus, we get paid for it. Drum and bugle corps is in the entertainment business and I can't think of better way to outreach to the general public.
  3. A perfect example....Shenandoah Sound. I know i've been critical in reviews sometimes in the past. but the last two years, SS has taken large steps forward in design and performer quality from where they were even in 2011. Yes, they have room to grow, but there was one year where I really just didn't want to see their show again and contemplated getting to prelims late to miss it. the last two years, I have made sure I was in my seat for them because they have grown....and they are so to speak towardsthe bottom of the pile. So yes, growth has occured in quality in DCA...and I'm sure in time we may see more corps attending finals weekend in addition to what we have now. Class A has been a huge boost for DCA, and it's helped raise the bar overall for the circuit. Thanks Jeff. We are working hard every day to get better and I agree with your assessment about where we have come from. I also have to say that all of our Class A competitors just keep getting better which makes for a full slate of entertainment no matter what show you go to. And it pushes us as well.
  4. Thanks for the compliment. We have 2 primary rules: have fun and entertain. If we are not trying to entertain the crowd, whether parade or competition, then we aren't doing our job.
  5. We are a South corps that participates in Southern shows. It has a lot to do with how we were accepted early on by the South. That being said, we annually travel at least twice to other south shows, particularly Florida, which would not have had enough corps for a show if we didn't participate. Yes, we are fortunate enough to participate in 2 PA shows recently, but we plan our travel budget for our regional circuit. I would say that annually we travel more miles than any other DCA corps.
  6. And Bel Air was good for us! BANDS, DRUM & BUGLE CORPS, MAJORETTE CORPS (plaques) 1st Prize: FUSION CORE 2nd Prize: SHENANDOAH SOUND 3rd Prize: CAROLINA GOLD
  7. We mostly have chain places. But one of our favorites is the City Tavernin Old Town. Not sure about a steak place other than the usual Logan's and Longhorns. If you want crab and seafood, I would recommend either Tim's Rivershore or Blue Ridge Seafood, neither of which is in Manassas, but in Prince William County. Also in Old Town are other restaurants such as Okra's which has good New Orleans cuisine.
  8. But you can catch Fran at Sound of the South on Friday night in Nokesville, VA. Go to Crowntickets to get your discounted tickets. The price goes up at the gate.
  9. Dick's not in that picture, but we have graduated him to 3 valve Bb to his dismay.
  10. Maybe from DC proper it is closer, but from here in Prince William County it always takes 4 hours to get to Reading and closer to 5 to any of those New Jersey destinations. And no matter what time of day you can count on a traffic issue when crossing the river and beltway into MD.
  11. Brentsville District High School is centrally located in Prince William county and a short trip from I-66 connecting you to all of the DC metro area. Make your July 4th weekend complete at the only DCA show in Virginia!
  12. We will be sporting a different look, including hats.
  13. Pre-show ticket holders will be able to enter the stadium and secure their seat prior to gate admission ticket purchasers. So, get your tickets online today at Crowntickets.

  15. UPDATE TO OUR WEEKEND SCHEDULE: Due to our lack of access to the rehearsal facility on Saturday, we are cancelling rehearsal for tomorrow (Saturday) only. WE WILL still have rehearsal as scheduled on Sunday at our regular time at Fitzgerald Elementary. Please be prepared to be outdoors and begin learning show drill on Sunday. Also, please let folks in your section know that you think might not read the email. We will have guard on Sunday…. So, all guard that have been out this year, please come out and be prepared to work.
  16. It may also depend on state association. In Virginia, we don't have a state championship, but we do have VBODA state marching assessments at regional locations. They will not allow recruitment booths at those events. I keep asking and keep getting denied.
  17. Got mine today. My only issue is that our pre-show was not included which is part of the overall program.
  18. Not sure what if you were looking at the marketplace photos. They are in decent shape considering they 30 year old horns. http://www.drumcorpsplanet.com/forums/index.php/topic/152818-2v-bugles-in-g/page__st__10
  19. Oh, I understand. Ours are sent out in advance of school being out since our schools are not typically out until June 20th, which is only a couple of weeks before our show the past 2 years. And to another post $300 ad sponsors, I wish. We have to squeeze the turnip around here to get $80 from businesses. but it is a good idea.
