  2. In 91, at semi's we (Marauders) were going on the field, and setting up, and I noticed the freakin drum line was missing. I was the DM and I was dragging my feet, with the warm up, set up, etc. Then, over the loud speaker..." Drum Major Lane Anthony, is your corps ready?" The drum live comes running there ##### off onto the field. I wait till they get close to there opeing spots, turn around salute, and start the show. I was scared out of my mind that we would have to go with out them. Turned out to be a pretty crappy run... go figure. :lookaround:

  3. Friday and Saturday in Bloomington will be specials days with the world and open corps performing in the same venue on the same day! Reminds me of the old days when there was a full day of prelims followed by an evening finals show!

In Madison, two years ago, we went to Div 2/3 finals at Camp Randall and them went to Div 1 finals that night. It was a great day of drum corps overload! I highly recommend the experience!

This year there are two opportunities: Friday when at least 34 corps will perform and Saturday when at least 24 corps will perform (numbers dependent on how the international group do).

Here's hoping their are lots and lots of fans in the stadium for both Friday and Saturday's Open Shows!

I am with you. I have done the all day marathon too, and it is a great day of Drum Corps! the open class is very entertaining.

    GO OREGON CRUSADERS!

  4. One thing I don't regret.... After I didn't take my chance to march BD I comitted to my local corps, and gave it my all. I will never regret ageing out with the Marauders. If more people would have done the same thing they may have pushed for a finals spot at some point. To bad so many people bolted south and east to "march with a contender"

I regret not having a chance to march in a Wayne D. line, but will never regret my time and friends from Marauders!

  5. I know I am Biased, but not one vote or mention of The Marauders? Sad day.

Aside from that, I would love to see the Freelancers come back. Such a great corps, so many great shows. I remember in 90 when we were doing our prince and the dragon show our opener was from the new (at the time) Batman movie. Then in Woodburn I think, I heard Freelancers horn line warming up, and what did I hear? Music from Batman. I knew we were in BIG trouble after I heard them, compared to us. What a cool show that was!

  6. I just remember loving your show both those years. In 87 down south, might have been Ak, or AL, we had a half day off, and we went to the local public pool, and you guys were there. Met some great folks, and we both tried to do run throughs for each other, and people in the deap end struggld. it was a riot. What a great day, and good memory. We pulled for you guys all year to get into finals, and we were so happy for you all.

BTW I was marching Spartans from Vancouver Washington that year in the drum line..... good times.....

  7. I regret that time on the back of the bus with Sara Jones. Besides breaking my heart she also gave me a killer case of herpes. Feel the love and share the burn

    Okay, now that is funny.

I have one more..... as young kid I chose play clarinet, only because my older bother played trunpet (the instrament I really wanted to play) and I hated him so much I wanted anything as far away from what he was doing. Years later, he quit playing and I learned to play cymbals, bass drum and be Drum Major to get into and stay in corps. I still think I would have been a screamin' Sop player.....

  8. 1987. Madison.... Friday night I went with friends to see about getting ummm, "koolaid" instead of watching the show. In retrospect, now as an adult I would give anything (almost) to go back and see those shows just one more time.

Also, in 91 when Wayne offered to teach me to play Baritone, and offered me a spot in the BD line after I tried out for DM and lost out because I was going to school and couldn't move down until early June. I should have either said yes, or, dropped school for one term to go have the experience of being in a top 3 corps.

anyone else have any Drum Corps regrets?

  9. Good question, and I have the answer. I was watching them in Oregon and saw the same thing, so i asked the visual guy. He said it was for a few reasons.

    1. squares there shoulders to the front side line.

    2. helps the performers with there projection. IE: peforming up and out to the stands, and not down at the grass.

    3. Opens the chest cavity to get more air, and expand the lungs, so when they do have the horns they have more gas.

Pretty cool, and I am going to use this in the fall.....
