  1. Ah Lil Joe, My memory is still as dull as ever, but I believe I said the years that the Smith bros marched. To pick out 1 and only 1 win in 67 when the two Corps competed multilple times. Analogy: would be like comparing the Celtics vs. the Nets this year! Nets might win one ,but who got their ### kicked all year? Remember" Even a blind squirrel finds a nut once in a while!" 70 CYO and World open? Do I dare to mention my little golden friend, that it was the Crusaders who got screwed at the Nationals that year coming in 2nd to the Wagon train Casper Troopers by .06 not Sac. Remember "your only as good as your last performance" Analogy: A boxer wins every round but gets knocked out in the 12th,Who got their ### kicked? 68, 69, 71- See 67 and 70! Boston and Sac were like the "Sharks" and the "Jets" only Boston always ended up with Maria!
  2. Actually Joe, they were the ones that were in the Crusaders in the late 60's early 70's that were kickin Sac's ### all over the field....without the beards....dohhh
  3. Mass Brass had 2 Hall of Fame brothers drop by Sunday to start teaching our staging for the DCA Mini Corps Championships! Neal Smith with a help fom his brother Tony started teaching MB a staging show that is well within range of what MB wants to do to get to the next level. From my viewpoint I was very impressed with how Neal was able to position us and add little nuances with very little effort, something that showed his experience and professionalism! With Tony on the sideline helping make adjustments MB was able to complete their first 2 numbers with the 3rd being finished Thursday. There is still a LOT of work to be done , but beware, people at DCA will see a side of MB that has NEVER been seen before!
  4. Ray Now that I have shown you the correct spelling of Vallee's name you can now work on mine, it's CoulsOn, not CoulsEn. I guess if your goin to call me a "nimrod" it doesn't really matter. Long Island....Joisey..what's the difference? Sorry you didn't understand all of my post, next time I'll type slower
  5. Joe, 1. That was the cleanest part of the SAC show up the point of Moran meekly slithering into line! The idea of him thinking he could sneak into line after knocking 5 of us into the first balcony is almost comical! 2. Wait till you see what Vallee (Ray, this is the correct spelling) has to decided not to play this year! 3. Ray being a Joisey boy himself, after many hoot dogs and a few cups of cooffee, had come around to our way of thinking..hence his making it 3 on 1, we have that kind of effect on people, if yuz know what I mean... Sidenote: Maybe yuz can talk Ray into doing SAC in Plymouth this year? Most of the music is from the 50's and 60's, so he probably played it all in the day!
  6. Joe, Your memory serves yuz correct, but the key phrase here was we were just learning the number that day. I'll give you your props , yuz both played it well, but in typical Joisey fashion yuz guys already knew it, therefore you were friggin cheatin! I believe that same day we took out "Coronation March" and you and pisone' Tony both looked at the chart and said "too many friggin notes" and promptly put your horns in your gun cases and hit the pike!
  7. Lower Tessitura??? Your getting awful personal now aren't ya...and personally I never looked down there!!
  8. Whoa..whoa...whoa here....this was a great review and all ,but ,"clear heads" for Mass Brass? Do you have any idea how long it would take to clear heads THAT size?
  9. I knew who you where talking about. Doesn't dexterity have something to do with playing a trumpet? or range going in both directions, not just up? Just askin. I am shocked about how much you recall from our golden years! I never thought you really paid attention to our shannagins outside the arc! I am truly impressed!
  10. And they wouldn't be the first ones!! We have had many a front seat person walk away with a bleeding ear or two! On a sidenote: Thanks for the compliment on how well I play a trumpet and the ease by which I achieve range, I never knew you thought so highly of me! Only problem, I haven't disappeared, I'm still arouond!
  11. Ah.....the "precipice" speach, I remember it well, Boston Sr. Corps, Allentown PA, during warmups before DCA Mini Corps 1998. To this day I still don't understand why you were looking over at our direction when you were spewing all those little ditties! Granted , we may have lost one sop due to an overdose of wacky tabacky, and another we were holding up by both arms, but other than a few other small transgressions that night WE ROCKED!!!
  12. Actually Neal Smith has been contracted (free beer, unfortunately Neal doesn't drink) to design our program this year in our efforts to get to the next level. There will be some movement to enhance certain aspects of our show, I believe it will be more staging than drill. Drums will not move unless we can put casters on his trap set! As far as our ironclad contract (absolutely no drill) that Mr ContraLou alludes to, a few members found a loophole; They will be putting coolers in strategic spots and when we're asked to move to them it will considered a "break",not drill! Our Lawyers are working on this as we speak!!
  13. unfortunately for us, Moran was in charge of video taping and he taped a run through of Star Market! Didn't help us in the show but we ate pretty good!
  14. You know how it is Ray, youse Joisey guys and New Yarkers don't wanna have anything to do with us Bostonions! You know us having the World champeen Red Sox , Celtics, and the winnigest football team in this decade and all, and now Mass Brass, I think it's just too much for them to take!
  15. Absolutely! Push Push Push, we want everyone to come around to our way of thinking!
  16. Ray, I believe Morans other handle is "pure fantasy", the boy has an imagination that just won't quit! I heard the Crusader Sr's a few weeks ago and they sound very good. Hope your around over the weekend, you did a chart for the Crusader Jr. corps (the name escapes me at the moment) that Mass Brass may be interested in playing next year and we'd like to talk to you about that.
  17. Tom, You might want to add Mass Brass to that list, who will be opening the show with National Anthem and then doing their routine.....or have we been kicked out already?
  18. That's a great idea! Actually the Rochester Crusaders are in that show, last I heard they had some MCA higher-ups in their corps (Rod, Doug, Donnie), maybe they could do something @ their table. What do you think boys?
  19. If it were the old days, we would play the National Anthem and then go break in to parked cars! You gonna make it?
  20. Mass Brass will be performing the National Anthem and their routine to open the "Mission Drums" Sat. 7/26. Get there early and get a taste of what this mini corps movement is becoming! MCA ROCKS
  21. Yo Ray, Are you going to Mission Drums? Mass Brass is doing an exhibition and as you well know, some of your favorite buglers are in that group! Get there early because we're opening the show with the National Anthem and our tunes. We might get all misty eyed if you don't show!
  22. Haven't you been a SR. at UMASS for the last 7 years? Unfortunately for us Moran sounds the same every day!
  23. It was great to see Tammy! Why don't you and the boys put a quartet in the DCA individuals? That would be a pretty formidable team. Can you still play for a minute and 1/2? By the way that's crusty old "Crusader" not Defender
  24. Actually Ray had to wait for his kid to come home to type it and then wait for his other kid to send it!
