Plymouth MA Drum Corps Reunion Concert

For Alumni Corps fans, it's time to get tickets for the annual National Drum Corps Reunion Concert in Plymouth MA's historic Memorial Hall on Nov. 22. Check out the details at usathanksgiving.com

Friday evening, there is a free patriotic concert (tickets free but necessary), a great parade Sat. morning, and the drum corps show Sat. evening. The weekend is like one huge drum corps party.

Highlights this year are the first appearance in Plymouth of the newly formed Defenders, and the last hurrah for the Light Brigade. It's my understanding that the Brigade has brought back many former members to make this a one last time moment to remember. It should be a very emotional performance.

I've pasted the participant's description from the web site. Some drum corps fans have stated that they prefer the old style of drum corps more than the modrn style. Well, here's your chance to see drum corps as you remember it.

Hawthorne Caballeros: The phrase “needs no introduction” was invented for this group. This Corps has been a major force in the senior arena for as long as anyone can remember. They “roar” onto the floor. The only thing more “flamboyant” and “entertaining” than this incredible unit, is their much revered Drum Major, my pal, Jim Russo. Nowhere in drum corps is there another Drum Major who is so well known and admired. Under his direction, lo these many years, he takes the “Hawthorne” sound, with its “blood curdling” soprano line to newer heights at each appearance. An audience favorite we look forward to many years with this wonderful group.

Boston Crusaders Senior Corps: “Boston” made its debut as an alumni corps in 1991 and was instrumental in the organization of this fabulous event.

Under the direction, since its inception, of the equally entertaining Jack LaSelva, this group fills the auditorium with its powerful sound.

They “own” the most famous five notes in drum corps. When they play those five notes, there isn’t a drum corps fan alive that doesn’t know it’s time to strap yourself in - Here it comes folks, their signature song “Conquest”!

Park City Pride: Park City Pride came to us comprised of 14 major junior drum corps in Ct. This corps didn’t announce their arrival, they “trumpeted” it.

Massive in both pageantry and sound, they have been a fabulous addition to our “Reunion” family. (3) Drum Majors lead this impressive group through its performance and they would be: Bob Findley, Skip Glant and Pat Callahan.Welcome again, Park City Pride.

St. Kevin's Emerald Knights: No stranger to all that is wonderful to our activity, these Dorchester “homeboys”, repeatedly and melodiously play us down Memory Lane. Though their Drum Major Gary Brown has a short history in this activity, he20is definitely not short on talent. After watching a few of their performances, something tells me Gary is here to stay. “The Knights” have always been a force to reckon with and we look forward to their appearance this year.

Blessed Sacrament Golden Knights: To tell the complete story of this “powerhouse”, you would need volumes. To this date, they lay claim to the most titles ever won by a drum corps. They went from being a premiere junior corps, when New Jersey was the Mecca of the Drum Corp World, to fielding a senior corps in 1991. Still retaining that melodious “Sac” sound, under the direction of Don Interdonato and ErichSchweikert, they never fail to please. Drum Corps at its finest and a perennial favorite.

Holy Family Defenders – Rockland, MA: Making their debut appearance with us this year, this corps is sure to surprise everyone with what they bring to the table. Like many of their predecessors, a reunion launched their “testing the water” into alumni drum corps. Since December, 2007, they have watched their ranks grow and their sound flourish. This fledgling group is led by Drum Major Bob Boyd and we are all anxious to welcome them to our “Reunion” family. I’ve heard from the Drum corps grapevine, we are in for quite a treat. Welcome aboard “The Defenders”.

The Light Brigade

This group is celebrating their 11th year as one of the guests of our Celebration. The ladies are conducting this one folks, and those ladies have yards and yards of drum corps talent between them. Judy LoPorto and Carol O’Brien have led many a corps over the years and definitely do it with flair. “The Brigade” never disappoints and I am sure they have something special planned for us this year.

Ct. Alumni

“Loud and Proud” their mantra, and a crowd favorite here in Plymouth. We have Mary-Ann Robertson assisted by David Crowley pressing this group into action. Ct. Alumni, a Drum Corps veteran, has been trooping the stands for 24 years and continues to produce the type of music that calls the audience to attention.

We look forward to another year with our old friends.

New York Skyliners Drum Duet

Back by popular demand, this dynamic duo continues to “Wow” their audience wherever they appear. Jack Murray and Joe Fontana are consistently honing their show to enhance its difficulty and technique. Over the years, they have garnered too many awards to mention in this intro, but just finished capturing the DCA 2008 I&E Championship. Hold onto your seat when these two take the floor – When they say “the hand is quicker than the eye”, these guys are walking, living proof. Don’t miss this one!

Our drum corps friends start rolling into the Town of Plymouth on Friday morning to partake in all the great events that happen over the weekend. What a spectacular way to start your holidays! Bring your family for the entire weekend. Enjoy the free "Tops in Blue" concert Friday night, the spectacular parade on Saturday as well as the "Reunion Concert" Saturday night.
