posaun1
What can I say but WOW!. The Reading Buccs continue to impress and show why they are the class of DCA. We arrived around 2:00 and watched the corps rehearse. The rehearsal was run with efficiency. The hustle of the corps was quite impressive as was the professional manner that the rehearsal was run. The corps is full. 128 members. It is June and they are without holes. This is quite impressive in today's age of filling in spots throughout the season. The first performance was by the Buccaneer Alumni Corps. There were some really nice musical moments here, especially in the Russian Christmas Music. The competing corps was next, debuting their 2009 show Demons and Angels: The brassline plays well. The low brass has a very thick sound and will be the driving force behind this line. Not to say the upper brass isn't good, however there were some spots where they started to sound a little edgy. This was probably due to the end of a long weekend of running around doing Bobby Jones' drill. If the upper brass can finish as strong as they started the show this hornline will definitely be in contention for a brass trophy. The Percussion also plays well. The mallet warm-up was very cool and quite musical. The battery is good and the tenors are a step above the rest. Their feature in the show is sick., especially the hop. The Guard book is almost complete, which for this time of the year is always a good thing to see. The drill, once clean, will be very cool. For June this show is what a lot of corps want to be in late July. I am looking forward to seeing this show grow throughout the season and seeing what it becomes. Something else that was cool, was seeing the hundreds of people out for this performance. My guestimate would be around 300 audience members. The support team for the Buccs threw a great picnic. All in all the Buccs Friends and Family Day was a great time, with good drum corps, good food, and good friends.
Mick Krackin'
Thanks for the positive review Scott. It was good to see you there, and as you mentioned all the hundreds of friends and family members. There is a big difference when you get such an enthusiastic response from a live audience than just performing at a normal rehearsal. Hope to see you at some shows this Summer.
