scottgordon
Ok, here are two more locations that someone out there can hopefully identify: Location 1 (I have Troopers and one unidentified corps): http://www.hardbat.com/photos/CORPS/loc1a.jpg http://www.hardbat.com/photos/CORPS/loc1b.jpg http://www.hardbat.com/photos/CORPS/loc1c.jpg Location 2 (I have Kilties): http://www.hardbat.com/photos/CORPS/loc2a.jpg http://www.hardbat.com/photos/CORPS/loc2b.jpg Location 1 are just small excerpts... location 2 would be more significant to identify because I have a larger chunk of the show. Location #1 is either from 1969 or 1972, location #2 is probably from 1970. In both cases I should be able to identify the years based on the audio -- where I really need the help is in identifying the location. Thanks again in advance for any detective work! HornsUp
#1 looks very much like the Stadium Formerly Known As Warhawk.
Northern Thunder
fully identify: Location 1 (I have Troopers and one unidentified corps): The "unidentified" corps looks like it could be the Cavaliers.
scottgordon
#1 looks very much like the Stadium Formerly Known As Warhawk. Oh my, I just compared it with the 1972 finals videos, and you're right, the stadium is a perfect match. That was quick! Any ideas on location #2 ? HornsUp
Any ideas on location #2 ? Surely a railroad right-of-way. You know that Tennessee can't be very far.
reallyoldfrt
Surely a railroad right-of-way. You know that Tennessee can't be very far. Photos are less than poor quality. The RR track embankment behind the stands makes me think that it might be Pearl Street Stadium in Malden Ma.
scottgordon
They aren't actually photos... they are frame grabs from old 1/2" EIAJ reel-to-reel videos. It's a miracle anything is visible at all. I'm not entirely sure that's a railroad. I was thinking that someone might recognize location #2 from the setup of the military judges in the front/center of the field, and the relatively well-populated backfield. Looks to me like it could be a big show.
HornsUp
#1 would have to be 1972. There were no corps shows in Warhawk before that season. The first was in early June of that year, just an evaluation show with multiple judges and no tabulation. Only the Midwest DCI founding corps. #2 can you view the whole flick and enumerate the Kilties tonal drum section? The setup from mid-July 1969 through the 1970 season was 4 tymps and 2 large horizontal bass trios. ( I ghost-wrote their book.) Both hornlines were 36 in the drill and 3 floating contras. 4 snares, 4 tris, and I really don't remember the BD/cym count. Or guard. Not my job. Tell me the music, including drum features. There were significant mid-season changes both years. I could make a good guess on the location of #2, but not quite yet. And I'm biting my tongue on a previous comment. Northern Thunder
OK, let's try this again. According to my files, these are the shows the Kilties had in 1970: (In order) Kenosha, WI Belvidere, IL LaCrosse, WI Madison, WI Park Ridge, IL Geneseo, IL Toronto, ONT Green Bay, WI Milwaukee, WI Cedarburg, WI Racine, WI Des Plaines, IL Streator, IL Northbrook, IL Milwaukee, WI Madison, WI Cedar Rapids, IA Cedar Falls, IA Port Washington, WI Waterloo, IA Horicon, WI Bradley, IL Racine, WI Marion, OH Miami, FL Syracuse, NY Butler, PA Middleton, WI Zion, IL
scottgordon
Kilties recording is the last 4 or 5 minutes of the show, and the tunes are Night Train, Chatanooga Choo Choo, and Auld Lang Syne. If you still want to know the drumline details, I can have a look tonight when I get home from work. Corpsreps says 1970, and that was the label on the tape (although those labels were often unreliable). It should be an easy matter to confirm 1972 on location 1 ... I can do that tonight. Thanks! I suppose it could be either the early-season evaluation show, or DCI prelims? (based on the small audience). Since these appear to have been filmed in the daytime, which do you think is more likely?
