Hurricanes Guard Staff

The Connecticut Hurricanes are excited to announce their 2013 Guard Staff. The colorguard has been a major strength of the Hurricanes for many years now winning best colorguard in 2008 and 2009 and coming in 2nd from 2010-2012. In 2013, Connor Kovatch will be our Colorguard Caption Head/Designer. He will be joined by Mark Willis who will be serving as a Technician/Designer.

The Hurricanes are excited to welcome the colorguard back this weekend, as we go outside to put our 2013 production “Rage Against the Machine” on the field to the visual design of Jamey Thompson. See our website for more information on rehearsal locations for the weekend at www.cthurricanes.org!

Originally from New York City, Mark is currently a student at Montclair State University where he is pursuing a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Dance Performance. While there he has performed the works of esteemed choreographers such as José Limón, Bill T. Jones, May O'Donnell and has worked with interactive filmmaker and collection artist, Grahame Weinbren, using movement in a collaboration film project.

In October of 2012, Mark performed with a professional contemporary dance company called ARCOS Dance, where he was a dancer and a featured saber soloist for a premiere piece titled "Bolero".

From 2007 to 2012, Mark performed with The Cadets Drum and Bugle Corps. as a part of the colorguard and was a performing member of the Alter Ego Winterguard in 2009 and 2011.

Mark has been the colorguard designer/choreographer for Burlington City High School Marching Band since 2008, which won three consecutive championships (2008-10) in USSBA Group 3A and Best Colorguard in 2008. He choreographs for various high school colorguards in New Jersey, and has also choreographed high school musicals such as "Beauty and the Beast", "Fiddler on the Roof", "Guys and Dolls" and "My Fair Lady".

Conor began his colorguard career with Newtown High School where he was a member of both the winterguard and marching band. He later went on to march with Alter Ego Winterguard from 2008-2011. Conors drum corps experience includes Connecticut Hurricanes 2005-2006, Madison Scouts 2007-2008, and The Cavaliers 2009-2012. Most recently he helped choreograph for Blessed Sacrament Winterguard from Cambridge, MA for the 2013 season.

Currently a student at Housatonic Community College, Conor is pursuing a degree in Fine Arts.
