flamtap65
I don't know for some reason it feel like a lot more corps are going to IP instead of vic firth? maybe it's just me... but what are peoples feelings on both sticks, i've tried most VF they are good, but pair to pair as really diasponted me, i've had one pair of hardimons real heavy and solid and then the next pait lighter than a drum set stick... so i dunno i am getting a pair of Paul Rennicks (IP) so maybe i will have found my new stick company
Gbassman5
I personally have never had a problem w/ any VF sticks. The IP sticks are also pretty good, though. The IP tenor sticks aren't as good as the Ralph Hardimon tenor sticks (VF), and the IP mallets can't compare w/ the VF "cartwheels." VF bass mallets are on a completely different level from the IP ones. THe IP are really unbalanced, bottom heavy in the top end, and really top heavy on the bottom end. VF bass mallets aren't perfect, but they're definitely bettet than IP ones. as for corps switching to IP, i've also noticed it. FEVER has an IP sponsorship so that's what we use, but at my high school we decided (on our own) to use VF sticks and mallets. half of us have used both, and we all felt it would be better to go w/ VF even though we could buy IP products cheap from FEVER. -Giancarlos
scvfan
I think VF typically crushes IP's sticks in paired tonality. As for Tenor mallets, VF has been better than everyone else lately (I still prefer either the Gambal non cartwheel mallets I still have or else a nice pair of Ralh Hardimon woodtips). Bass mallets have always been (since I started in 1990) the best way to go. Very sturdy malletheads and very very sturdy malletshafts. Cavalier2123
VF has quantity and IP has quality, imo. We used the bass mallets when they first came out in 2000 and they worked great for us. They felt as natural as playing with a pair of snare sticks. As far as sound quality goes, the player has more to do with that than the stick~ Edited September 30, 2004 by Cavalier2123
