tjrck
I have a Yamaha 202 Marching Tuba that I have play tested. The horn sounds great...except there is a terrible buzz [like a snare drum snare] that is audible from alow C to bottom line G. Is it just something with this horn or all of the horns? Thanks. ZSDAvenger
sounds like there could be a broken brace on your specific horn. a broken brace would make a sound like that. carefully look at every brace and point where tubes are contacting on the horn. If its loose, it will vibrate or 'buzz' at certain frequencies (C through G, in your case). Once you find it, assuming that this is the problem (and it should be), its a simple matter of taking it to a brass shop and having them re-solder it. idontwan2know
Loose valve caps or bottoms (or really any loose metal anywhere in or on the horn) can also cause a buzzing like that.
Dave
Springs can also cause that buzzing noise if they get dried out; putting some oil on them would be advisable. Is this one of those new contras they made, or a convertable?

brassguymike
the leadpipe has a screw on it with 2 circular nuts so that you can set the leadpipe length. If those 2 nuts get loose, they will rattle. It that's not it, then have someone stand next to you a listen for where the sound is coming from.
