A 4th Brass Ablaze corp?

Recommended Posts

Seattle, WA - Brass ablaze announced today the addition of a 2nd division three corp this year bringing their total number of corps to 4 corps. The Seattle based Brass Ablaze organization will support one division 1 corp, one division 2 corp, and two division 3 corps.

"The turn out at our camps has been tremendous!", said corps director Jeff Rainwater, "We have had way more than we expected and the tallent level is amazing. These are some truly dedicated and tallented young people!"

Last year the Brass Ablaze organization made it's FDC-I debut near the end of the season and brought home a surprising 3rd place finish in the division three championships. The original plans for this year were to field 2 corps but the number of signups for the audition camp convinced them to field 3, one in each division. There numbers have only grown since then.

"We keep making cuts, but they come back anyway. It's like they don't care that they have been cut, they just want to play the music. It's that kind of dedication that got our board of directors back together to determine we needed another corp marching.", said Rainwater.

They didn't have the heart to turn away players with that much dedication.

"Most of them didn't get cut because they are bad. Most of them just got cut because someone else was a little bit better. We hate to throw that tallent away. We feel every kid who wants to be involved should have an opportunity to do so. We don't want to turn anyone away if we can help it."

The new division 3 corp is being looked at as a training corp or farm corp rather than a competitive corp. The name of the corp will be "Rainy City Sound".

"It's great for first timers and young students. It's a chance to get involved in the activity and learn a lot. Then maybe next year some of them could make it into the other corps."

Their focus will be on learning fundamentals of marching and the instraments. Rainy City Sound will not have as demanding of a schedule as the other 3 corps. The other corps are scheduled for 25-30 shows including competitions while Rainy City Sound will only go to 15 shows. Unlike the other corps, after their short California tour, they will come back to Seattle for another week and half of camps before driving back down to Arizona for the beginning of the final stretch of shows.

If you are interested in hearing more about Rainy City Sound or joining, feel free to attend their next camp which begins Saturday May 14th at 7:00am at Frank Love Elementary School in Bothell, Washington.
