I just returned home from the show. I woke up at 3:00am (but I really wanted to wake up at 5) so I could get into Tokyo and to the stadium by 9:00. I was to meet the corps director at a train station at 7:04, but misinterpreted it for 7:40... not a good start to the day. However, we finally found each other, met up with two other members, and took a taxi over to the stadium from a Tokyo train station. We arrived just before 9:00am, so all is good.

DCJ Autumn Preview. 8 drum and bugle corps. Exhibition performances w/ an olympic style retreat, all in the key of G.

Pretty much, all the corps were to arrive at the stadium at either 9 or 10. Each corps had a scheduled rehearsal block inside the stadium, then we all came together to practice "Let It Be Me".... DCJ's America/O'Canada.

The show started at 4:00pm and we (Sonic Lancers) were the first one's on, as performance order was based off of the 2005 Championship placements from last January. Our show music is from Disney's Millenium Album. Other than the props (it's rare to have an outdoor performance in Japan, so props weren't built with weather in mind), we had a decent show.

I was only able to see 3 corps as a spectator. Phoenix Regiment (a corps name some older DCI fans should recognize), Tokyo Phoenix (DCA, DCI... this is one of the best brasslines I have heard in a LONG time), and Yokohama Scouts.

I'm actually really tired and can't think too straight. I'll try and give more details later.

But for my first experience in a drum & bugle corps outside North America... it was fun and quite enjoyable.

I wish you had chance to see the Inspires. Would like to hear how they are doing from an impartial source.

I might be barking up the wrong tree, but are any of you familiar with the Legend of Angels drum corps? Do they compete anymore? Are they any good? Their site is mostly in Japanese, so I can't make much out of it.

The reason I ask is we had a bass drummer in LVK '04 travelling all the way from Japan who marched Legend of Angels. I would appreciate any information anyone here has of them. It would satisfy a lot of long-standing curiosities. Thank you!

Legend of Angels is a Kansai Region group. Yamato had a contra and mellophone player come from that group. Last I saw them perform was in 2002. But their site is updated and says that they participated in the Kansai Regionals just 2 weeks ago.

I watched some of their parkinglot warmups. Mellophones got some crazy licks.

But I actually got to see them from behind at the Kanto Regionals last weekend. They're fun to watch, and I love their cymbal line.

Thanks! Glad to hear they're still doing their thing!
