Orpheus
Well allI can say is we(the fans) or someone needs to get someone to spaonsor the show or else there won't be one next year! Emailed Phantom to say thanks for the show and got a response from Rick Venezula, and he said that they didn't even break even and that at the next board meeting they would decide the future of the show......basically we probally won't have one next year! There has to be a way to keep the show in Huntington and keep it going! Any ideas!!?? Same here -- and I got a similar reply from Mr. Valenzuela: "We hope to keep the show going, but ..." Very troubling. <sigh> I wonder that the Marshall band couldn't put it on, or a coalition of Marshall and the three big local high school bands, perhaps? Something like that? I also saw that Kerr's Music World was involved to some degree this year, so maybe all isn't lost. There's certainly plenty of people in Huntington who want there to continue to be a DCI show. I still think that lack of advertising was the problem, not a lack of local interest. Crowds for this show have been quite large in the not-so-distant past. I just don't think people knew about it this year.
Orpheus
Think Romeo and Juliet, but with the devil or demons involved. Some "Faust-like" movies - West Side Story Devil's Advocate Constantine Crossroads or music like... The Devil Went Down to Georgia. I didn't see this particular reply before ... so just to clarify: When I say that I didn't "get" what Phantom Regiment was trying to portray, it doesn't mean that I don't know the essentials of the Faust story or that I'm too stupid to understand the costumes that the male guard members are wearing. Okay? In a non-verbal artform like drum corps (or ballet, to name another), you can't just put the actors in costume and inform the audience of the general theme. You've got to show the audience the story. I only saw it the once, like most of the crowd, but I don't think PR managed to do that. It was still just June, though. P.S. And I don't really think it's all that much like Romeo & Juliet or West Side Story ... Edited July 6, 2006 by Orpheus
