BigLou
July 20, 2006 Some 60 drum corps organizations from all over the nation will descend on the Madison area for competitions the week of Aug. 7, but at the moment, eight of them, four with more than 100 members, have nowhere to stay. Jeff Cox, the housing coordinator for Drum Corps International, said his ability to find housing for the corps has been complicated by the fact that high school football practice begins that same week. Some area schools that in the past offered housing and practice facilities to the drum corps are unwilling to do so this year as a result of the football schedule. So Cox has put out a plea to people around southern Wisconsin to call him if they have facilities that could host a full drum corps during part or all of that week. Four of the corps needing housing are Division I corps, which means they each have 128 members plus staff and volunteers. As a result, they need somewhat larger facilities. The other four corps are smaller. The corps members sleep on floors, but they need shower facilities, parking and a football-sized field where they can practice. Not all the corps would necessarily stay for the entire week. The first day of competition is Tuesday, Aug. 9, and the championship finals are on the night of Saturday, Aug. 12. People with offers or ideas for housing can contact Cox at 630-400-3819. He asks that people make contact as soon as possible because arranging housing is urgent. http://www.madison.com/tct/mad/topstories/...773&ntpid=1 Edited July 21, 2006 by BigLou
