Kawartha Posted January 12, 2007 Share Posted January 12, 2007 MEDIA RELEASE Jan 12, 2007 FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE $37,300 OTF Grant Striking the Right Note for Kawartha Kavaliers^OO^ Lindsay – On Tuesday morning, the President of the Kawartha Kavaliers Drum Corps, Larry Callaghan, met with MPP Laurie Scott to talk about how a $37,300 Ontario Trillium Foundation grant has helped his organization. The two-year long grant was made in June 2005 and the Kavaliers have recently completed the purchase of 31 brand new Kanstul G Bugles. Ms. Scott and Mary Lou Ross, a Foundation volunteer, formally presented Mr. Callaghan with a plaque from the Foundation to “trumpet” the drum corps’ success to date. MPP Quote “As a result of this grant, the Kawartha Kavaliers have been able to buy new instruments for their members and attract new musicians to the corps,” said MPP Laurie Scott. “By eliminating the cost barrier of buying a new instrument, more youths and adults can experience the fun of participating in this award-winning drum corps.” The Kawartha Kavaliers have recently competed the purchase of 15 sopranos, 10 baritones, 4 mellophones and 2 contras, brand new Kanstul G Bugles, enabling the corps to invite new members of all talent levels the opportunity to join the Kavaliers. Young people and adults can either learn to play an instrument or perhaps renew a long lost talent, with no cost to them. Larry Callaghan Quote “This Grant has enabled the corps to increase the size of our hornline. We are building toward our goal of 50 horn players for our 50th anniversary, in May of 2007. Already 5 new horn players have joined. Anyone interested in joining the Kavalier, to perform in the 50th Reunion concert, should contact us before then end of January. Rehearsals are held at I.E. Weldon Secondary School in Lindsay, every Wednesday from 7:30 – 9:30pm and the corps performs over 20 times a year throughout Ontario. The Ontario Trillium Foundation, an agency of the Ministry of Culture, receives annually $100 million of government funding generated through Ontario’s charity casino initiative.
