Iplaytimpani
Has anyone ever bought drum set sticks in bulk? I'm looking to basically buy a brick of Steve Gadd's for cheaper than the usual 7 bucks a pair. Anyone ever done anything like that? And yes, I've checked the ebay route. LaneS
ask your local music store, they can order stuff like that for you and are willing to negotiate the price.
MarimbasaurusRex
Call Lone Star or Steve Weiss. They sell sticks discount by the case.
Iplaytimpani
Called up Weiss. They were only looking to sell the sticks at the same 7 dollars a pair they sell individual sticks. So far my best luck has actually been to go through guitar center and pay 40 for 6 pairs including shipping, which may be my best bet. MarimbasaurusRex
Lone Star has Gadds regularly for $6 each. Might be worth a call for a deeper bulk discount. They are usually pretty good about that stuff. They may want you to buy more than one case. With either LS or SW it's always a good idea to ask, "How many do I have to buy to get that price down?" They'll usually have an answer. It also pays to talk to the main man rather than one of the phone order secretaries who can't give any special deals. Tristan
I'm just curious, what application do you use the gadds for? I find them to be a bit too light for me to control well, but then I'm not a set player.
Iplaytimpani
I rotate between Gadds and original Weckls for drumset work, especially jazz. I'm currently doing a run of Thoroughly Modern Millie and playing a lot of jazz and I like the Gadd's in this application. And since I've got used to them and the Weckl's I've started using them for other uses such as the college pep band when I sub in and that's where I go through a TON of sticks. I prefer a light stick as opposed to a club of a 5B or other generic kit stick and the Gadd's and Weckl's are my weapon of choice.
Tristan
That explains the brick thing then :)
