If you're ever in Texas Again

Recommended Posts

Good Morning,

To all Crossmen volunteers and perspective volunteers:

Thank you to all who have been apart of the 2007 Crossmen experience we could not do it without you..

I am making a special plea to the moms, dads, grandmoms, granddads, and family members of our San Antonio and Texas area members as well as our Alumni who live in the San Antonio area.

Guard members please pass this along to your family members; we need to introduce the volunteer aspect of the Crossmen to all perspective volunteers of our marching members. You are our best salesperson in ensuring we have enough volunteers.

As the next Crossmen camp approaches the request for volunteers to support this camp is critical. Since November the camps have ran pretty smooth. The combination of Crossmen vets and Ronald Reagan parents has been a seamless transformation to one group.

We are asking for more volunteers to come out to assist in running the camps in the areas of airport runs on Friday nights and Sunday morning through the afternoon. We also need assistance in the kitchen, with affection is called "the food truck" all during the weekend. Over the past 4 camps in San Antonio we have been able to see where the need for more volunteers are needed. We seem to be pretty well covered with registration and souvie sales although help is always welcomed in these areas at every camp.

We have been blessed with great help from a handful of steady volunteers, veteran and rookies, who have become the backbone of the volunteers' effort at the monthly camps. Over the past camps we have realized that there is life outside of the Crossmen and this camp we will not have the services of a few of the "regulars". We do understand, this has allowed us to look at where we need more volunteers.

Food Service:

We have Leslie Tucker who will once again manage the food services for the March camp. So you don't need to be worried about making decisions. We do however need volunteers to assist in making and serving the food as well as handling the clean up after meals. We need help in setting up for the meals, making the drinks. We need help in making a food run for dairy and bread and other items as needed. We need help in setting the "food truck" up on Friday night as well as load the supplies for the weekend.

Closing of the Food Truck:

A very important task that is getting overlooked is the final closure of the "food truck" of Sunday afternoon. Understand that on tour it takes 8 marching members assigned to food truck duty to do this during the tour. We have been closing the truck up with 2 people at the end of camps; we need a few more volunteers to help so everyone can leave camp at a reasonable time. Again someone with knowledge will direct what needs to be done we just need volunteers to help.

Airport runs:

We have been moving volunteers around to handle multiple duties and if we can get a pool of drivers we can leave those assigned elsewhere to concentrate whatever task they started.

Bottom line volunteers are the backbone of this organization, it is no different than the band programs we have all been and are a part of during our kids' high school years. Please consider volunteering some time during the March 2, 3, 4 weekend.

Ideally it great to have in house volunteers to stay around the clock however this in not mandatory just a suggestion if you are looking to get the full "tour" experience while being stationary. Whether you give us 4 hours or make airport runs or stay the whole weekend you will be playing a very big role in the success of the 2007 Crossmen.

If you are planning to volunteer Please contact me at xmenvolunteers@aol.com so I can ensure all of our bases are covered and if you have any questions at all.

Also feel free to contact:

Fred Morrison, Crossmen Corps Operations at vprace@msn.com OR

Megh Healy Director, Performing Ensemble Operations, @ megh@yea.org, 610-821-0345 x24.

If you would like to be removed from the email list please consider remaining, if for nothing else it is a source of information as to what's going on the volunteer end of the organization. But I will at your request remove you from my email list if desired.

Thank you,

Rick Reedy

2007 Crossmen Volunteer Coordinator

Crossmen Seek Tour Manager

The Crossmen of San Antonio, Texas, are seeking an experienced Tour Manager to lead the corps on what will undoubtedly be a memorable summer tour that, for the first time ever, will kick off from the Lone Star State.

The ideal candidate for this amazing opportunity will have prior experience on the administrative side of drum corps and must be available to tour with the Crossmen from Memorial Day weekend through World Championships in Pasadena, Calif., on Aug. 12.

The corps begins its full-time season with Spring Training on May 25, with actual touring across the country kicking off on June 23. Major cities on the tour include Hilton Head, S.C., Kalamazoo, Mich., Atlanta, Ga., Memphis, Tenn., Dallas and San Antonio, Texas, Denver, Colo., San Francisco and Pasedena, Calif., just to name a few.

The perfect applicant for this position is very familiar with the drum corps activity and how life on the road for 10 weeks can be arduous, yet fulfilling beyond words. They are thorough, a good planner and communicator, organized, can multi-task and is detail oriented. They will put the needs of the corps' members, staff and volunteers above their own and remain focused to deal with issues at any given moment and when the unexpected arises. This versatile leader will be comfortable pitching in on any task when the call comes - from loading a truck in the pouring rain to scrambling eggs for a hungry army of 180.

Job duties include, and are not limited to:

Orchestrate housing and living logistics on all tour locations

Communicate with housing hosts on frequent basis

Communicate with corps' members on scheduling and expectations of the day

Coordinate logistics of corps' long-term and daily schedule with director, staff and support personnel.

Ensure all involved are apprised of impromptu issues and can manage and delegate well in emergency and crisis situations.

Handle data processing on a daily basis

Daily minding and balancing of tour finances

Oversee coordination and scheduling of volunteer staff

Payment is negotiable on the position and is commensurate with experience. George Hopkins, Executive Director of Youth Education in the Arts, is assisting Crossmen Director Mark Chambers in the creation of the 2007 corps' tour team, but all final decisions will be made by Chambers.

"With a great team and talented membership, the Crossmen have one ingredient needed for success - someone who has been there," Hopkins said of this critical position on tour. "This is a chance for someone to make a difference in one of the most exciting times for this drum corps."

Interested applicants should email a letter of interest and resume to Hopkins at hopkins@yea.org. <mailto:hopkins@yea.org.>; Please include any and all drum corps experience.

Can't commit to a whole summer, but still want to help out the corps? Check out the new tour schedule online here and sign up to volunteer!
