Pioneer Audition Camp in Alabama!!!

The Pioneer Drum and Bugle Corps will be holding an audition camp at Phil Campbell High School in Phil Campbell, Alabama on Saturday, March 31st from 1 to 5 pm. The corps is taking members in the color guard, front ensemble and brass line.

The 2007 Edition: The 2007 show is entitled “Fields of Green” and includes Gustav Holst’s 1st Suite in Eb, a "big band" treatment of The Rakes of Mallow, a percussion feature intermixing Afro-Cuban rhythms and the Irish standard Irish Washerwoman, and closes with the ballad Minstrel Boy leading into the corps song, Variations on Garry Owen March. The arranger for the brass book this year is famed arranger Larry Kerchner. Larry has written for over 130 drum corps since the 1970’s, including DCI corps such as the Bridgemen, Skyryders and Star of Indiana.

The program coordinator and brass caption head is James Scheckler. James is a former DCI brass judge. The color guard is headed by Jason Foster. Jason was a color guard member with Blue Stars and the Blue Devils Drum and Bugle Corps. The percussion is headed by Stuart Spoon. Stuart is a 10 year veteran of Pioneer as a marching member and staff member. The drill designer and visual caption head is Bobby Patrick. Bobby has been on visual staff with Capital Regiment and Memphis Sound.

Color Guard: Although this camp is being held the same weekend of SCGC Championships, video tryouts will be accepted. You may send your video tryout in either VHS or DVD format to: Pioneer Drum and Bugle Corps, Attn: Color Guard – Jason Foster, 4601 W. Holt Avenue, Milwaukee, WI 53219. Include in your video the following – basics (drop spins, speed spins, butterflies, angels, etc.) in sets of 16 cts. and at least 1 toss of your choice. If you are proficient on weapons (saber and/or rifle), you may also include demonstrations of either or both also. If you have a part of a routine that you would like to add, by all means, do so. Please do all work to a count track of some type – having someone keep time with a wood block or by playing any music that you can perform to.
